I tought I'd create a topic for everyone to introduce themeselves
and share a little info for the rest of us to know.
My name's Napoleon but friends call me Napo for short.
I'm 28 and I live in Orange County, California. I've been
trying to study guitar for a little over 2yrs now, still I
consider myself a beginner because I havent found the
right instructional material to inspireme even more, at
least not till I found NextLevelGuitar. I'm looking foward
to a great experience here.
I have a Mexican made Stratocaster and a 15W Crate Amp.
I also have a Richie Sambora Strat, American made. Even tho
I don't know how to play, I bought it because it's just a
beautiful guitar and because Dave says I Can Do It :)

I'm Marty from Norfolk UK. I started playing about 15 years ago but have only really messed around and haven't got down to any solid practicing, I guess I'm intermediate sort of level but very rusty. Fingerpicking is probably what I'm best at, I've found lead playing really difficult for some reason. NLG just seems a fun way to learn stuff and a great opportunity for me to get to know my Takamine a little better, she's such a cutie. Some of my babies are in the pic, got another 3 including a 12.

Greets all!
I'm Whiskey. Real name is Lee as well.
I'm 31 years old living in Ottawa, Ontario in the Great White north. I've been playing for about 17 years off and on and currently have a small 'band'.
I've gone out of my way to not let myself get cornered by one style while learning. So while I probably have progressed at a slower rate as a guitarist, I've gained at least a measure of rock, blues, metal, classical, country, flamenco and other styles. This site is great for me as it lets me jump from style to style easily!

Right since this thread beat mine to the punch I'll put my introduction here too.
I'm Lee, originally from Southampton in England, I'm a student at Swansea university in Wales but I'm currently completing a year studying abroad in Cordoba, southern Spain. I decided that I'd learn guitar while I'm abroad this year so I bought a cheap classic acoustic when I got here in October and have been hooked since. When I found these guys' YouTube videos I thought it was fantastic for a beginner, exactly the kind of thing I needed, so nice one David and Tim if you are reading this.

to play infront of others now just play by myself in

Hey guys DR here. Looking forward to sharing some ideas and experiences with everyone. I'm in Clovis, CA, been playing about 2 years, had about 8-10 lessons last year but my playing is pretty lame. Doesn't stop me from having a bunch of fun though. Here's some pics of my stuff.
Agile Gold top with P-90s, Austin Telecaster, Schecter 006 with GFS pups, and Kramer Nightrider (since sold)

hi guys, my name is Bill i have been foolin' around with the guitar for years (since the 60's) pretty much just learned from frineds showing me different chords and riffs. it is a fantastic hobby and i encourage all of you new comers to stay with it. it will be a great enjoyment and escape for you. i am impressed with Dave and his method. like i say i learned most of what i know from just friends showing you the string and fret method which is basically what Dave does and why i know it will work. yes, i have a Gibson ES335, vintage 1965. bought it many years ago when they were cheap. also have a les paul standard, strat plus, tele and a strat that i made from warmoth neck and body to look and sound like a '65 strat (and it does!). have an old fender bandmaster in great shape and a marshall valvestate. i plan to swap the valvestate for a proper jcm 800 eventually. it is nice to meet you all and i look forward to a great exchange of ideas and info on here.

Scott
It was the first amp I bought and I still use it all the time. I love the thing, there are a lot of tones in that box, especially for someone just starting out and doing some experimenting. If I had known better at the time I would have bought the 30 watt however. It has the same basic functions but has a power attenuator which allows you to play all the way down to 2 watts of power. Great for bedroom, backroom or any kind of low level jamming while still keeping the tone your after. Check out the reviews at Harmony Central, I think they are universally loved there.

Yeah it's too much, I get kind of caught up in new stuff but there's nothing too expensive there. The Austin Tele was $58 on ebay, the gold top was $159, the Oscar Schmidt $90 during the Musician's Friend blow out last year. The Schecter is the best piece there, I'll always keep that since it was my first. Even the Roland amp was an ebay deal as well. I've had some other stuff come and go but fortunately I've managed to get most if not all of my money out of them.;)

Wow those are some pretty great looking guitars and well maintained,
and not pricey at all..for my guitar, my strat and my amp (with other small accessories) i spent $400usd and for my Richie Sambora alone was $800usd off ebay. You did get way more for way less money than i did,
now i gotta learn how to play better so it will be worth it haha.

Hi all.
My real name is Jean, I'm 20 and I live in France. I started playing the guitar only a few weeks ago and I really live it. I own an Ibanez SAS32 (http://www.ibanez.co.jp/world/product_news/pages/messe/images/SAS32-TL-1A-01.gif) and I play with a Line6 Spider III Amp. For now, I can't play many different things, but it's still enough to have fun. Actually, I like it so much that my enthusiasm convinced a friend of mine to try again (he used to play several years ago). I hope I'll soon be able to play a few songs from the Pixies or Joe Satriani.

Greetings everyone!
Last November I bought myself an Aria Starter Pack(ok so I didn't really know what I was doing, but it was cheap!) and have been teaching myself guitar since then. I eventually ran into David's lesson videos on Youtube and am grateful because following them has sped up my learning since I don't have an instructor to show me examples.
I have also taken piano lessons when I was younger so I am familiar with many musical concepts and theories. I still play a little but not as much as people want me to. My sight reading was never that good, so I usually learn by example and memory(not sure if that makes sense...I'm sleepy).

Hello everyone,
I'm Steve, as my nickname states :), I'm 17 and live in Belgium.
I started playing the guitar in September 2005. I used to play saxophone but I lost interest in it and then 2-3 years later I really wanted to learn how to play guitar (after seeing an old Guns n Roses concert and seeing how cool Slash played/plays). I went out and bought a J&D starters' pack and basicly taught myself how to play.. I'm not very good though and when a friend showed me one of these tutorials I instantly fell in love :) These are awesome, please don't stop making them :) I'm thinking about buying an acoustic guitar now for more ballad-y songs

Hi,
I am Boogie (real name Scott). I am 46 and have been taking lessons (again) for about the last 14 months. I have taken lessons, off and on, since I was a teen, but now I seem to be sticking with it. My son and one of my daughters also take lessons.
I'm into many styles of rock, blues, a bit of jazz and folk.
My equipment consists of a Takamine F349 acoustic; Squire Stratocaster; PRS CE 24; Boogie Studio .22 amp (from which I get my screen name :) ); and a Zoom G2 multi-EFX pedal.
I discovered David on YouTube and then he got a mention at another forum I visit regularly.

Hey guys, or as David would say "good people"
My name is Tom, I am From Upstate NY. I am 23 years young, and have just started this past december with the guitar.
My grandfather was a big country guitar player, but he lost his 1st finger in an accident so he never could show me too much. And it seems like everyone around me who has been playing for any length of time or is even remotely good, wants to lock up the secrets to learning the guitar. (or at least make you pay to unlock those secrets). But what dave and tim have done for me so far has been so amazing that it was worth it to me to get a month membership, and probably getting a year membership as well.
So keep rocking you guys, and thanks a bunch!!!!

Hi....
ummmm I'm 44 from the NYC area. I've always loved the guitar... parents sent me for lessons as a young child but I'm left handed and the instructor insisted I play right handed. After 3 lessons and a lot of trying. I went home told my parents I didn't want to do it anymore. I never told them why......just that I didn't want to do it. I just couldn't feel it right handed. So with that I retreated to my bed room changed the strings........ of course not doing anything right and just played with it. Now as an adult I've learned now there are left handed guitars out there. So now I have an American Fender Hightway One Strat, an acoustic Fender, a Ibanez GAX60 and an Ibanez AW100LECENT. All Left handed :p ;) :)
I'm just starting out so I'm not good at all. But it makes me happy & gives me peace. And its really nice to meet you all. Really nice guitars in those pictures.

Blew and IndecentAngel,
I too am left handed, but same as Blew, I play a right handed
guitar, for the same reason i dont have much strengh or
speed on my right hand to make chord shapes quicky i have
most speed in my left hand, and with my right hand i just
strum and finger pick slow melodies i find it more comfortable
for me to play right handed. Good to know we some some left

I spent a lot of time messin around with the guitar for years only playing bass lines and short riffs. I thought I could never play like the pros until I heard the Beatles Anthology album. After I heard the BEATLES playing raw, rough tracks of their songs that never made it to album I thought "I could play like that!!" and I sat with the guitar for months (much to the dismay of my wife) playing with the chord boxes that are printed with some sheet music. I learned a lot of the beatles, a little stones, some eric clapton and a few songs from some mixed rock and roll books. I have become very good at reading the chord boxes but have trouble reading tab. I have hit a wall where I am having trouble advancing my guitar and am hoping Next Level can give me a push.

Wow, quite the international group here.
I am Daryl and I live in sunny South Florida. I bought myself a guitar for Christmas a year ago at age 40. I decided that I had heard myself say "I wish I had learned to play the guitar" too many times so off I went. I found Dave's videos recently and have really fallen in love with playing.
My gear includes:
Agile AL 2000 guitar
Fender MIM Squier Series Tele
Greg Bennett (Samick) SJ 14 acoustic - ceder top, southern jumbo shape
Crate MX15R amp
Boss Micro Br
I am currently trying to sell a couple of those things so I can buy more stuff!:D

Hi People,
I am 49. I started playing in the 70s with some lessons from a teacher that was a neighbor. I picked up the guitar off and on for several years but never was serious about learning. I studied Tae Kwon Do and acheived 3rd degree Black Belt. I had my own school for several years. When I closed down my school I came back to the guitar wanting to continuing practicing some type of art.
Right now I am off work due to health issues. I am home most of the time with 2 dogs and my gear. I put several hours a day into playing and practicing. Funny how when you get something like the guitar in your blood it never goes away.
I think NextLevel is an excellent site and loaded with valuable lessons. Also I like David's style of teaching. Hoping to climb the ladder with all the rest of you.

It was only since last september that i found my guitar, dusted it down, had it restrung, and attempted to play some old ballad that i learned years back. My guitar skills are still not up to scratch but they are getting there and since ive been watching these videos from Dave and Tim i've improved alot quicker!!

Matt from Houston, TX
Age 33
I have about 2 years of self taught experience but I also took about 8 years off as well (I'm still kicking myself for selling my gear and quitting back then). I just recently decided to pick up the guitar again and have resolved myself to learn the correct way and this site has been the perfect answer so far. Like most self taught players, I can play a ton of 'half songs' and licks. The first song I actually learned from beginning to end (with the help of this site and some tab for the VERY easy solo) was the unplugged version of Nirvana's 'About A Girl'. Now I'm looking forward to really learning how to PLAY the instrument and not just some licks and half songs here and there. This site looks like it's going to be a hit and I'm really thrilled to be here at the beginning!

Hi
Malc from Manchester in the UK.
Long time player without making much progress ( like a few people have said here - just playing the same old chords and bits of half remembered songs ). Determined to make a proper go of it this time - Dave and Tim's enthusiasm is very inspiring. I've just learnt Elvis Costello's "Alison" from the site - a song I first heard 30 years when Elvis played it on his first TV appearance ( a regional TV music show - "So It Goes" ). The chords are spot on and they sound great. Next on the list - "Torn".
Thanks to Dave and Tim and keep up the good work.

At what point does one make the transformation from " hack" to "player" .

Im Jesse, 27 years old. Ive been playing guitar since i was about 5 or 6 years old. I am a Professional Magician, by trade, and play in a cover band to keep my time occupied.
The type of music I play is mostly 80's Hairband stuff. Ratt, Winger, Slaughter, White Lion, Kix, etc.. I also enjoy playing the heavier stuff such as Metallica, Slayer, Testament, etc. You get the idea ;) I am also on the side a guitar tech for the Baltimore Metro area, and sub contract from a few local music stores in the area for repair work. I repair/diagnose amps, guitars, effects pedals, mic's, you name it.
I hope to be a asset to The Next Level guitar, as this is my first guitar board, as i have a ton of boards that i regularly visit with magic, i never really cared enough to seek out guitar boards. After seeing one of daves early videos, i figured i would keep an eye on things. After the site opened, I see exactly how much dave has helped alot of people and decided to stay.
Feel free to ask me any questions about guitars, magic, or if you just wanna say HEY! Ill try to answer questions to the best of my abilities and hopefully I can help you guys have a better understanding of why a guitar works the way it does ;)

Hello. I'm Mike and I'm nearly 40 years old...I am Swede but I've been living in Italy for ages - must be 18 years by now.
I've played the guitar off and on for some time but I never managed to reach that crucial next level and thus my guitars remained untouched (although they are nice pieces of furniture and to watch).
After wathing Dave's lessons on YouTube I am once again hooked. I will start by getting a month subscription and if I find it satisfying, I will most likely make the year-subscription.

Hey guys,
My name is Aaron and I have been playing guitar for about 4-5 years. The first couple years were on and off the last few have been more serious. Ive played with numerous bands and played many different shows. Right now I do a lot of online collaberation stuff with people from all over the US. This is called fileswaping music. One person records something and sends it to another, then the other person adds something to it and sends it back. Its the internet version of what the Postal Service did with their music.
Anyway, I have a 79 Strat, an Ibanez S470, an Ovation (cant remember the model and im to lazy to look), and a Cordoba 50R. The main guitars I play are the ovation and the Ibanez.

Hey I'm Randall (october) from Albany Louisiana by way of Escondido CA. I'm 48 and the first time I picked up a guitar was a little over a year ago. I'm a southpaw and have a Washburn D10SCE / LH. My son (a southpaw too) started playing about the same time as I did while he was stationed in Iraq. I'm really amazed how fast he is picking it up, I think if he stays with it he will wind up being a fine musician.
I'm not sure I can say that about myself, but I do like banging away at it. Nothing like that big sound of an acoustic guitar. I'm a big alt country fan, blues and the like. Pretty much anything from Billy Bragg to Drive By Truckers works for me.
Peace,
october

Howdy, y'all!
I'm The HEARSE DRIVER. I've been playin', if ya can call it that, for 8 months. I've been tryin' to learn from books, videos, an' online. With all the dough I've spent I shoulda jus' paid for lessons....then I might actually be able to play somethin'. I jumped on the Squire '51 bandwagon an' I have a Roland 30 amp. I dig rock 'n' roll, rockabilly, psychobilly, gothabilly, an' ever'-other-billy. If I could play guitar a tenth as good as Chuck Berry 'r Poison Ivy I'd die happy.
It's been a pleasure meetin' y'all!

Hi. I'm Dave from Central Pennsylvania, USA. I started playing in the mid 80's while in school. I took a class and learned mostly folk songs. After school I bought an old Kimberly electric and started taking lessons from a local shop. I even joined a band. After a few years, I sold the guitar and didn't touch another until late last year when my son wanted to learn. I bought a Squire Strat Pak and a Mini Squire for my son. We signed up for lessons and started to learn the E, F, and G notes. Next week we learned B, C, and D. Before too long, we could play "Mary Had a Little Lamb"!!! Needless to say, we promptly quit (after learning a $160 lesson). We bought some videos and learned a few 'real' songs. Now I found this site and we are excited again. We will be checking out some other instructors in the area as well.

All's it takes is a little money!!!! I saw some of Dave's video's on the web, and have really been impressed with his playing, so I've been waiting for him and Tim to get their website going. Should be another good place to pick up some good info.

I am a 19 yr old student from California, I live in Sacramento and study at Sac State. 2 years ago i bought a Squier Starter pack and after a month of trying to learn with the fender guitar method that came with it, i gave up(surprise-surprise) and put it in my closet. About a year ago i got hooked on Andres Segovia and went out and bought a 400$ LaPatrie Etude nylon string classical guitar. After learning about 1 whole song(very proud of it) and two halves of a song, i put that in my closet too. That is when i stumbled upon Davids video of Sultans of Swing...
That is when i pulled my Squier Starter pack(Fender 15W amp) out of the closet tuned it, strung it and Played until my left hand turned purple(literally only my index finger did). I now practice daily about 5 hours minimum and i play pretty much everything that david (and tim of course) post. ROCK ON BAAAD PEOPLE, and remember its NEVER too late to start with the guitar.;)

my name is craig. i am 38. i live in the Dallas Texas area. i just started playing the acoustic guitar 7 months ago. i really like it. i have a Martin D28 acoustic guitar that my wife bought me for our 10 year anniversary. she got tired of me singing in the car..... :-)
i meet with a local group on Monday nights where we just sit around, play and sing. i have never done such a thing before but the group broke me down on my first visit and got me to play AND sing.......i was unbelievable nervous but it has been my belief that you only get so many oppurtunities to embarass yourself in a lifetime and i figured i better get started.... :-)....i have been eating up the group meetings up ever since........i was 3 months in to playing the guitar and my first song to ever sing to the group was Roy Orbison's "In Dreams". i got a standing ovation from the group even though i made a few mistakes.....
i found Dave on Youtube searching the guitar lesson videos. his method of speaking and presenting are a rare find. i have already learned a ton from him in just watching a few of his videos. i enjoy his sense of humor and encouragement.............i hope to learn a lot from him............
as a side question, is it listed anywhere on this website all of the videos he has made on Youtube or other places? i dont want to miss any of the lessons even if they are above or below me...........
thanks.....it's great to be here..........i cant believe this site exists.....i am overwhelmed!!!!!!!

Hi all, I’m David from Hertfordshire in the UK and I’ve played the guitar on and off for a number of years now but still consider myself a novice.
I have 3 Strats, an SG copy, a Dean ML (which I bought for my son but he ended up nicking the SG copy) and an Ibanez S470DXQM. Currently using a POD XT and FBV Shortboard through either a Marshall MG 50 DFX or Peavey Amp.
I first got into the guitar when a friend of my mother gave me an old Kays electric and a copy of Shine on You Crazy Diamond as a birthday present and needless to say, I’ve been hooked ever since.
Anyway that’s the intro done for now, so here’s looking forward to all the good times ahead.

Hi I'm Rachael,
I'm 16 and from London, and have been playing the guitar for the past six months. I use my Dad's Les Paul, and have my own Daisy Rock Retro-H. It has a slightly thinner neck, and I find that it actually does make a difference. I use a VOX amp.
I first realised that I wanted to play the guitar, when... well, I just always wanted to play. Who wouldn't? It's such a beautiful instrument.

February 11th, 2007, 12:18 PM
Hey folks, Leviathan-Ran here!
I'm just recently getting back into the guitar after a good 2/3 year stretch of not playing.
I started way back in 2002, played for 2 years (2004) until I was 18.
To finance my dream of owning a motorcycle, 2 years later at 20 I've done that and now I want to take up the guitar again now that I have my gorgeous bike!
Dave and Tim are helping me get back into things with their awesome lessons, Dave especially! He's a the riff daddy! :p
At the moment I'm borrowing my friend's 'Les Paul' copy Made by a company called Gould, it seems to keep in tune pretty well for a £120 guitar and is pretty easy to handle if a little awkward at times.
But I'm sure as I progress with my skills that won't seem like so much of a problem.
My influences are pretty standard really, but whilst I appreciate things such as van halen and Steve vai, I'm just not into fret wanking!
Rhythm is my game with the occasional lead part
Influences I like are Manowar, Murderdolls, Iron Maiden, Cradle of filth, Poison, Twisted Sister, Saxon and pretty much anything from the 1970/80's lol
My Previous guitars were...
Encore Startocaster (horrible little starter pack guitar)
B.C Rich Bronze Series Warlock (Second guitar, I LOVED IT! so much better!)
Ibanez Destroyer (Third Guitar, awesome axe what can I sat? Great tone and action, light and smooth)
My amp was a Marshal DFX50 which was awesome!
My next guitar? Next amp? who knows! :)

JJ here, from Enfeld (that's just about in London), UK.
I started to learn bass guitar when I was 41 and have since become reasonably competent - but you have to practice practice practice, and that isn't easy on your own! I've played in a couple of covers bands which has been a lot of fun, mostly 60's and 70's stuff, with the odd Oasis, Travis, and Coldplay thrown in.
Learning the bass has given me a fair understanding of musical theory and chord formation, so maybe that'll come in useful here.
Now 47, I've borrowed my son's Spanish acoustic and his Yamaha electric to give the real guitar stuff a go. This web site is brilliant and Dave's teaching style makes you want to learn the songs. Today I can almost play Heart of Gold from a standing start !
Keep up the good work!
JJ

Hi All
I'm Mark from Wintry Wales in the UK. I'm 36 and have been playing the guitar for nearly 19 years. I'm one of those on and off sort of people. I spent years playing powerchords with maximum distortion and zero ability, and then put my gear away in a dark cupboard. Thankfully my wife persuaded me to dig it out, and I have been happily playing properly now for about 6 years. I enjoy all styles; acoustic, fingerpicking and electric. Like some of you guys, I came across David's videos on youtube and was mightlily impressed. I'm looking forward to playing as much as my arthritic fingers will allow!
Gear:
'57 Fender Telecaster Custom
Yamaha Jumbo Acoustic
Some sort of knackered Yamaha nylon stringed acoustic (plays surprisingly well)

Heya good peeps,
Axe Battler here! I've pretty much just started to learn to play guitar, and came across Dave and Tim's video's through Divine Intervention while i was looking at guitar stuff on ebay. One link led to another and whammo!
I've always enjoyed music, and learned to play a 'lil harmonica awhile back.
I have no space for a piano or drums, and there just happened to be a shiny guitar laying about.
The guitar has always intrigued me, but, i figured it'd be too complicated and after trying a dodgy teach yourself guitar book (complete with, guess what, twinkle twinkle little star, yes!!) i put it down.
Now, i'm back and learning away merrily thanks to Dave's awesome lesson's and the use of a Fender Stratocaster that's been laying about unplayed for far too long.
Keep on rockin' steady! :D

Hey my name is Rob and Im 13. (14 in a few days :P). I've always wanted to play the guitar my whole life and I just started to learn a couple of weeks ago. I cannot afford lessons but I think NLG is as good as you can get for being free.
My guitar is a copy of a strat made by Johnson and I have also got a 15w Johnson amp that came with it. It is a really nice guitar and has an excellent tone. Even the guy in the shop said it matched up to some of the really expensive guitars.

February 16th, 2007, 06:11 PM
Well let's see.... I'm Jeremy as the name says, I'm 17, I've had an acoustic/electric guitar for a little over a year. I played for awhile but lost interest.
About a week or so ago I got a free (for me anyways) electric guitar because my mom happened to get a Jetta during that promotion they were having (http://www.firstact.com/AboutFirstAct/InTheNews/09_28_2006_VW.aspx ).
So I started playing that and I fell in love again then I came by this site. I forgot how it must've been God, but I absolutely love it. The way Dave teaches is really easy and he is always telling me I can do it!!! Haha anyway, I hope this site is around for awhile by the looks of it it's growing pretty quickly.

Hello all.
I love it that there is such a variety of ages (teens to geezers like me) represented on this forum.
My name is David, I'm 47 years old, and have played guitar intermittently since I was 10. I'm mostly self-taught, and it shows. I live just outside of Washington, DC, where it's pretty cold right now. I make my living in the publishing biz.
I basically set aside my guitars (and home recording equipment) 11 years ago, when our first child came along. But after a family trip to Nashville, where I bought my daughter a Martin XLI (great, great guitar for $300) at Gruhn Guitars (a place you should visit at least once in your life, no matter what style you play), I decided to start playing again. And now, like many of the older folks on this board, I want to really focus on learning and mastery of the instrument.
Currently, my gear is mostly Fender stuff. I've got a nice Telecaster, which I use mostly for Open G stuff. I also have a Strat, which is going to get new guts next week, and a Bullet bass. Years ago, I owned a Hondo Les Paul copy--I understand they're collectors items now, and I sure wish I hadn't sold it. But I've promised myself that I'll be buying a real live Les Paul soon to add some Gibson vibe to the Fender roar.
I really appreciate the quality of this site, and the quality of the forums, and look forward to contributing...and learning.
If anyone in the DC Metro area is interested in getting together to play, let me know!

I'm Dave, 33 from Jacksonville Florida...Home of Skynyrd, 38 special, Limp Bizkit, Yellowcard...etc.
I learned to play when i was in high school about 15 yrs ago , I had the typical garage band but I was actually a drummer for about 10 yrs.
I would mess with my friends guitars when we took breaks from playing and then my younger brother started playing so I would mess with his guitar all the time.
I learned to play alot of things but I pretty much jumped it the middle, learning to read tab and play songs but totally missed learning the basics
About a year and a half ago bought an ESP LTD. and Marshall MG 15cd amp and I've been messing around with it now and then.
I realized that I really suck at the basics like scales and strumming patterns and now when i'm trying to learn more difficult stuff it's coming back to haunt me.
Somehow I came across the next level vids on you tube and learned alot just following them so I joined the site. Besides, my girlfriend is working on some deals with a music producer who has contracts and was in management for some really big names in music (love to say, but I better not, see my first line and thats all I can say). So I figure I had better work on playing more to help her with her singing career and ya never know if they may need a fill in for the studio now and then right?
In my day to day I work for an airline, otherwise I work on my harley and fix/build computers and websites
oh and thanks to dave and tim for the site

That maybe more of a reality that you think...One of the guys that I get together with to jam (our drummer) is the equipment manager of the pro hockey team here and we get to use the 10,000 seat arena in the summer with the stage to have jam sessions..it's pretty cool...my avatar pic in the upper corner is a pic from last summer's jam there...it maybe an empty arena...but still very very cool...and it's the same stage Motely Crue, Godsmack, and even Elton John have played on...we played ther last year and invited a bunch of musicians join us for the fun...my production company video taped it and we called it the 2006 "nobody came " tour....lol

Hello everyone!
Great place you have here, i found it quite by chance watching Ratt videos on youtube when i came upon Daves lesson for the 'lay it down' intro, always liked that song but never even thought of having a go at playing it, really cool, have been playing it most of the evening whilst reading through the forums here.
Anyway im 31 and from Wirral. UK. I started playing at 17 however ive just come back in the last 7 or 8 months or so from a 5 year break away from the guitar, which ive regretted alot since i started again. argh.
Look forward to getting to know you people, its good to see a place with such mixed ages, styles and influences too!

Hey, my names Nick.
I've had a guitar for about 2 years now. I started when I got it, then I played it for a while and took some lessons, but it wasn't really for me. Then a few months ago I picked it up again and decided I was going to try to "teach myself". So far I've learned a lot faster than having weekly lessons and I've had a lot more fun.
I love the lessons here. I check youtube everyday for new song lessons.
My favorite music is rock. I listen to a lot of Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers (went to a concert a month ago!), Audioslave, Bush, Incubus, Nirvana, etc. I've learned mostly just Foo Fighters songs because 1) they are easy but still fun to play 2) Dave Grohl is awesome.

Been playing on and off for (Gasp!) 5 years now and am proud I picked up the guitar in the first place, I am pretty comfortable with my playing though I know I should be a lot better considering how much I just mess around everyday :o
Am also learning the keyboard and hopefully one day will be able to sing in key!
Musically my taste is, well, varied :p I try to listen to everything people recommend and enjoy every style and song as best as I can (some things just give me headaches I'll admit). Am proud of my rather large music folder and diverse musical taste and am open to new things.
Some of my favourite groups are, in no particular order: Queen, The Beatles, Beethoven, RHCP and Bread.

Hi All,
My name is Al. I am in Coventry, RI USA. I've been playing (trying and failing) for about 2 years now and never found the right help until now. This site is great!!! I am 38 and love guitar and want to learn metal playing along with good accoustic playing for the campfires.
My main guitar is an Ibanez rg series which I play through a Line6 Spider II 210. I also have and Epiphone SG which actually sounds pretty good for a cheap guitar.
My goal is to play my Ovation Celbrity while camping. It is so damn hard to play compared to my Ibanez but that is excepted. Anyway love the site, videos and lessons. Keep up the good work!!

Lets put it this way Im a 5th Grader and I am a crazy guitarist (still working on those solos!) and I use a cruiser (crafter) golden les paul. I also have a black guitar quest II with a MXPX sticker and a NOFX sticker aswell, I was given it which started my hobby. I have a band with Me another 5th grader, 1 6th grader and a 4th grader. Im getting a home studio in March, I am so frickin excitied! I plan to be the next Jimi Hendrix, my favorite band is Green Day and I am into Pop Punk/Rock. I like basicly every band, and dont really like oldies. I dont wanna give out much personal info, but I can help with many problems, I play guitar about 2 hours or more every day. If you have any problems please private message me.

Hey All,
I'm Ken from Phoenix, AZ. I'm 37 and just started playing two months ago. My first guitar was a (I'm embarassed to say) Baja Fender knock-off. Super cheap and it got me started and I'm loving every bit of it. I travel for a living so I just picked up one of those funky looking Travel Pro Traveler guitars. I spend a lot of time in the hotel and figured playing that thing would be more productive and more entertaining than CNN re-runs. With the help of Dave and crew, I've got a few licks down and and a couple songs are almost together. Looking to upgrade soon to a Line 6 spider amp (can tell the starter pack amp ain't gonna cut it) and I've had my eyes on a Dean Vendetta.
As a side bar, anyone familiar with that guitar and is it worth looking into...as a rookie that is!
I'm having a blast with the site and i'm looking forward to chatting with you all soon.

About me,
I'm 21 and I live in the great Pennsylvania!:D My parents bought me the Esteban guitar pack about 7 months ago and I've been playing hardcore ever since. After realizing Esteban teaches a different style of music than I wanted to play. I started teaching myself songs and such off of tabs and free lesson sites. Then at last I found NGL and here I am with a membership...happily ever after.

Hello everyone,
My name is Dylan and I am from the North-East coast of Australia!! I have been playing guitar for I guess a little over 6 months now. I do not play in a band and am not planning to for a little while yet. I am 15 years old and (for those of you playing at home) that puts me in grade 10. I guess my inspiration for guitar has always been my dad. He has been playing for 20 years but hasn't played in a band for the last 10 or so years. My father and I often jam together on our acoustic guitars, 1 of which (my favourite) is a Takimine and the other (his favourite) is a Samick acoustic electric. I learnt on the acoustic because that's all that i knew we had. Everyone said it's a lot harder to barre and such but i got there eventually. Turns out we do have an epiphone electric guitar which i am not sure of the model because it is around 20 years old. I have been learning a great deal off this site and am hoping to be even better. I don't really have favourite type of music, i wil listen to anything as long as its not like screamo or opera or something phycho. But i do enjoy a bit of Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.

Hey I'm Leo and I'm 20, currently living in Sydney, Australia. I picked up the guitar last year August after finally saving up enough money for one. I bought a Fender Acoustic Electric DG-10CE and I love it to bits.
Currently, I'm aiming to find a decent amp and electric guitar (thinking of epi's SG400 or a Fender Strat) to buy sometime this year and jam with a couple of friends. I've also taught myself how to play alot of songs from UG and had some help with a few songs from this site (thanks Tim & David!) like "I will follow you into the dark", "lips of an angel" and "drive".
My music taste can range from Eric Clapton and Elvis Costello to All that remains and Dragon force (with these kind of bands, most of their lyrics may be rubbish but the guitar riffs are always awesome to hear) to Bloc Party and Titofelix to Michelle Branch and Jewel.
My big dream so far is to be in a cover band (no way looking to hit it big), I'm happy to keep a day job and rock with some covers and original songs at venues over the weekend, or take a holiday to tour around the country. If not a band, then just an acoustic soloist at cafes or something.
Also, so far, I've written half an original song :o I've got the whole song down in terms of music but lyrically, I'm missing the 2nd verse, 2nd chorus and bridge

Hey everyone.
I'm 18 and from Ohio and have been playing guitar for about 8 months now. I first started playing on a Squire Bullet Strat but have since moved up to a Fender Standard Telecaster. Since I decided to go the self-taught route, NLG has been a good source of learning technique and songs and I thought joining the forums would also give me a helping hand with any questions I may have.

My name is Matt. I'm 32 and live in Meridian, ID. Moved here about 5 yrs ago from the Oklahoma/Texas area. Been trying to learn off and on for nearly 20 yrs. really got serious about it in the last few months. I sing a lot better than I play, but I hope to reverse that soon. I listen to everything from Clapton to Queen to Brad Paisley. I hope to be able to give as much to this site as I'm getting and look forward to becoming a better guitar player.

Hello all !
Name is Kevin and I hail from Huntsville, AL. Originally from Jacksonville FL.
Piano background of 8 years of private instruction and eons of doodling. Picked up the guitar at the ripe old age of 13 or so if I remember correctly, started with classical, then on to steel string acoustic. Did that for a couple years. Went in the Army and dropped it all, :( So here I am now at 41 with a new keyboard and a new guitar, in my avatar. Oscar Schmidt OG2CE Electric Acoustic by Washburn. Been doodling for about 2 weeks now and remember why I hated going from nylon to steel :D Loving it even though I can't pick my nose right now without a tear rolling down. (fingers screaming) Been lurking this site for a week and checking out the vids on youtube and google. I have found a home. Rock On!

I figured with me entering the past two contest and having made a post or two I figured I better introduce myself. My name is Brent and I've been playing guitar for about 3 years off and on. I play mostly rock and blues based stuff but my influences range from stuff like Buddy Holly to Tom Morello, from Robert Johnson to Kenny Wayne Shepherd and everything in between. I'm mostly self taught but I have been learning a lot from this site. I have three guitars. They are all Squiers but I hope to get some real Fenders and a couple Gibsons in the future. In the picture the one on the left is a beginner Strat that my roommate and I repainted. The one on the right is a Deluxe Standard Strat. That one plays and sounds great. I'd be lost with out them all. I play through a V-amp 2 plugged directly into my computer and also through a Peavy Tube amp I have on loan.
I leave you all with the picture and a quote from Mitch Hedberg about him playing guitar.
"I play the guitar. I taught myself how to play the guitar, which was a bad decision 'cause I didn't know how to play it, so I was a sh!tty teacher. I would never have went to me." ~Mitch Hedberg

Hi Everyone, my name is Justin. I'm 18 years old and I'm from
Valley Center, Kansas(bring all the wizard of oz jokes you want).
I got my first guitar when I was very young, I tried to start playing it when I was in middle school, but just wasn't learning much and was starting to get frustrated. Last week I was browsing some vids on youtube and came across David's videos and learned more in those 7-8 minutes, then I ever did trying other methods. I have a Kent Acoustic, I figure I better learn something on that before I buy an electric. Anyway, I'm glad to be here and hope to meet most of you good people

I signed up the other day.
Im probably one of the most boring people you'll ever come across.
I play guitar, everyday, self teaching myself - So as you can guess i'm pretty crappy
. I have been playing 15 months although you wouldn't know it.
I have an uncle who is extremley good on guitar and is a private tutor, however the fact he lives 200 miles away added to the fact we dont talk anymore means I dont get any lessons. Wank isn't it.
I live in Nottm, England, UK, Europe, - You get the point? Good. At this moment in time I am unemplyed, enjoying some cosy days before I go into the British Armed Forces in July.
Bored yet ?
Good. I'll leave it at that. I may not post much on here but I will be lurking around, as Meatloaf would say, like a bat out of hell.
Thank y'all.

I started lessons back in the mid 80s - I'm 37 - and have 4 guitars:
1. Yamaha -beginner
2. Zager - 6 string acoustic/electric
3. JB Player - Electric
4. Epiphone 12 String - Acoustic Only
Promised myself I would do an open mic 2 yrs ago.....and finally got the nerve to play about 2 wks ago and going to play again on Sunday (3/18/07).
I played a few songs that I really enjoy hearing by original artists:
When Life Was Easy - The Ocean Blue (opened with this one)
Grow Old With You - Adam Sandler
Forever Young - Rod Stewart
Under the milky way - The church
In Your Eyes - The Reivers
(they're all on youtube except the ocean blue)
This Sunday, I'm going to add in a couple of songs including:
Times Like These - Foo Fighters (acoustic)
Gone To Pablo - Luka Bloom (irish folk/pop singer)
A guy I've never met but is on this site is going to come out. It'll be good....me and my 12 string this time. I'm going to bring my video camera and Tri-Pod it or ask someone to hold it for me while I play so I can see how I do and then get some feedback from folks.
I'm looking forward to meeting him, playing, talking music with him and heading home to get ready for work on Monday and I'll feel better knowing I did this....and hope to continue getting better playing and playing and singing in front of others.
If you're in the DC Metro Area, the name of the place is Sweethearts in Chantilly/Fairfax, VA - 25 miles outside of DC. They do open mic every sunday nite.
The good news....not many ppl are in the bar or playing so, if you want time...you've got it....and, if you're a little shy about playing around ppl....don't be....these folks just hang by the bar and the guy who leads the night is cool and will help you sound as good as he can.
Feel free to ping me and I'll do my best to respond within 48 hrs.
Cheers.

Thus.. I'm casper 15 years, my friends call me Kaz and I've been playing for about 3 maybe 4 months now, I found my self a teacher in the neighbourhood and starded off..
I have a standard model, massive production guitar, I guess, so nothing fansy yet :)
I'm going for an Ibanez, after I managed to get my lazy ass on a job.
I really enjoy playing the faster, samba flavoured songs, acoustic.
Though I'm defintly the roll model beginner, wanting to play way more then is good for me XD, oh well practice makes perfect isn't it? ;)
Anyway, thanks Tim and David for making this awesome site and helping everyone with there guitar improvements :), hoping to see more and more from you guys :>

Hey!
I don't want to give off too much information on the internet, but here it goes. I'm 12 going on 13, started the guitar when I was in the second grade. I got bored becuase the teacher only gave me country songs. I saw Dave's video on YouTube on "Message in a Bottle" and then i found the site. I started again seriously after I found the Sweet Child o'Mine lesson:cool: . I still can't do Message in a Bottle. My pinky is almost worthless! I don't have any gear of my own, I use my bro's. Fender amp (not sure of the specifics) and a Santana SE guitar. Good gear, but I'm not sure if their expensive because I was like 8 when my bro got the stuff. I want a Gibson or Ephiphone Xplorer guitar. Those are cool.
my fave bands are the oldies (surprisingly enough). Guns n'Roses, AC/DC, Aerosmith especially, and ZZ top.
I live in Boulder, CO
I'm done.

Hi, I used to play for about a year when I was a teenager but I quited. Now, about 12 years later, I bought an electric and I'm willing to give it another try. I bought a Samick Malibu with a Vox AD15VT to get me started. My influences range from blues, rock and metal! Bands like Pink Floyd, Rage against the Machine, Bad Religion, Avenged Sevenfold, Audioslave...
In the past month, while checking this site, along with some other, I have learned more than the whole year back then! I live in the back of the woods, about an hour from Ottawa, where finding a good teacher is harder than learning the guitar, so I really enjoy this site!
I'll post some vids later!

Hello everyone.
This is Rizz from Hatfield, PA. I'm 39 but I don't feel a day over 40... Actually, I have loved the Guitar since the first time I heard Jimmy Page do No Quarter, many many moons ago. I have a Squire (or is it squier?) and I really haven't touched it in almost 5 years. David, I saw you on youtube showing the riff for LAY IT DOWN (Such a gerat riff) and I picked up my Squire (or is it Squier?) and started playing it, lol. Thanks Buddy! I've been inspired again to learn and play which is all because of you guys. Very cool.

Well hello to you all,
As a new member I take the oppertunity to introduce myself a bit. I am (at the moment of writing this) 31 years of age and have started trying to play the guitar 3 years ago.
There have been times that I did not play or took the necessary time to practice, but since six months I have taken the time to at least practice a few hours per week.
A few weeks ago I saw a video of David and that was my inspiration to even try and practice more. And that is why I have become a member.
So, from the Netherlands I want to say hi to all of you and hope to get some more inspiration to even play better than I do now (and that should not be hard..... :) )

Hey Ya'll
My name is Joe. I have been playing the guitar since I was 13. Started off with electric and couldnt afford to pay for lessons, so...I purchased a TAB book and learned the wrong way on how to play. I played electric till about 18 years old and my parents got sick of my distortion peddle and bought me an acoustic and have been playing that ever since.
My music tastes have changed over the years. I was mostly into Nirvana, Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins and what not. Now I basically love everything. Jack Johnson, John Mayer, James Blunt, Michael Buble etc.
I am just starting to play some open mics now and playing some of my orignal stuff at them. I want to try to go far with this, but I know my guitar playing is sloppy and I am thankfull I stumbled upon Next Level Guitar. If it wasnt for them, I wouldnt be playing some cover songs that are getting over pretty good with the people that come out to these open mics. It is also helping me out with my knowledge of chords and terminoligy.
Cant wait to get to know some of you out there

Hello,
I'm from British Columbia Canada, and I play a '93 Gibson Les Paul Cherry Sunburst through a Fender G-Dec 30, which is lined out through a Roland PM-3.
Just started a few months ago, and doing not too bad..
I've been a drummer all my life, but always wanted to play guitar, so here I am.
Played professional and casually off & on for the past 30 years or so...
Toured clubs throughout Western Canada, did a little recording and got to backup several headline acts through the 80s, like Trooper, Chilliwack, Doucette, Headpins, Burton Cummings, Teenage Head etc. (it was the 80s, remember?) lol Great times.
Still have a band that plays local parties, weddings etc for fun...
Goal is to get good enough on the guitar to switch off and let one of the other guys in the band play my drums while I play guitar for a few songs....

Hi all. I'm a very young 39 year old (hide your daughters ;)) who just started playing 3-4 months ago. I've wanted to play guitar all my life and finally gave myself the chance.
Currently I'm not working because I hurt my back and as soon as I could move around the house, I grabbed my Schecter and got online for some lessons. That's when I found this site. I can pull up a lesson anytime I want and I don't have to travel or make/break appointments. I can convalesce and play some Avenged Sevenfold! Now that's therapy!
My screen name is also my trail name I got thru hiking the Appalachian Trail. The next time I do a long trip like that I'll have to find a light weight guitar to bring with me.
I like metal, blues, and hard rock.

Hey,
Name's Chris. im 16(almost 17) and am about to hit my 1 year mark on playing. untill i found NLG i really had no confidence in my playing. a lot of my friends play and have been playing for a long time. so i'd play my little half a song. and they'd chime in w/ the rest of it; and make it sound 100 times better. but since i found NLG i feel i can almost keep up w/ them :p
im currently saving up for an electric. maybe get into some more rockish music. so if anybody has advice for a good guitar. i'll take it!

Hello everyone. I have been taking lessons from Dave here in California for about 6 1/2 months. Right now I am down to every other week because of my work schedule but it is one of the things I look forward to the most. Hope one day to be able to play half as good. Got started because of my son. He is one of the best players I know. Anyway, I'm learning and Dave is a great teacher. Steve

Hello everyone my name is Bill alias boilrdog, i am a 55 year old retired Boilermaker in southern ( almost Kentucky) Ohio.
I have owned an electric guitar since I was 15 yrs old however it spent most of it's time in the closet as back then I was more interested in other things ,you know like girls and cars, now however I have the time and the desire to finally learn to play.
This web site is just what I was needing. By the way I still have that old guitar it's a 1965 model Hamony made in Chicago USA it's a H78 model .

Hi
I am 18 years old and became interested in playing about a year ago. I bought a knock off telecaster as my first guitar, and man did i loss my interest in playing because it wasn't a very good guitar. I took like one lesson with a teacher an then quit :o. I bought another guitar in Christmas of 2006, but again hardly ever played it. Finally bout two months ago did i finally start to get serious and even though im still a beginner and because i had some cash lying around i decided that since i really want to learn to play guitar i got my self a epiphone les paul ultra just last week.
I just love my ultra

i'm not sure how i came across this forum; i think it might have started from viewing a Rooster video on youtube from David then somehow wound up browing the forum. Anyway, i'm looking forward to new ideas and playing styles!

Richard here.

I've had a guitar since high school, 25ish years ago. Was in a garage band back then that never made it out of the garage. Noodled around off and on ever since. Never had lessons. Could play a few songs and parts of lots of songs.
I would get bored, or just get the urge and pick it up for a while, then not look at it for months. Been that way for the past 20 years.
Now I'm really feelin' it. A friend got me back into it and showed me this site. I've played more in the past week + then I have in the last year.
The callouses are coming back.
Current stuff:
Yamaha FG336 acoustic, sunburst. I've held on to this one since 1982? (my 1st guitar)
Fernandes ? no clue what model. I've had it 'bout 7? years.
I bought it when I lent my acoustic to my bro since it had been sitting for a while untouched, then got the urge to play again.
Also a Peavey Blazer 158 amp.
Pics if I can figure it out.
Later,
Richard

My name is Scott call me scoots...:)
I've owned an acoustic for about 10 years, no lessons just bad habits...(Washburn)
My son wanted to play so he bought a beginner electric set after Xmas last year, which made me want to buy an electric (PRS SE, Fender amp 60W 2x10).
I have a hard time sticking on lessons and tend to noodle around picking up bits of songs here and there, but want to really learn how to play so I'm seriously thinking of joining the NLG program.
Nice to meet all of you.

Hey. My name is James. I've been playing for about 7 years. The first year I had the good fortune of being a senior in high school with a lot of open class slots. That gave me the opportunity to take a student directed music appreciation class. The class decided to appreciate the guitar, and we basically turned it into a group lesson every day.
Thats about the extent of my formal training. I've learned a lot on my own through books and the internet. I'd consider my playing at about the intermediate level. I can play solid rhythm and simple leads. My vocals are abysmal but I can play and sing together in a somewhat passable way.
I've just bought a 1 month membership to the site to give it a shot. I plan to work right from the beginning just to see if I've developed any bad habits or missed out on anything.
I've got a number of guitars. My main rig is an Ibanez RG370dx (red) which I have upgraded the pickups on. I had a Dimarzio Steve's Special put in the bridge and a PAF Pro at the neck. Absolutely wonderful tone and playability. The sound gets piped into a Vox AD120, the 212 valvetronix amp they put out which I got for a steal! I almost feel bad about what I paid but I was very good friends with the shop owner and he had a hard time selling these when the Line6 modelers are about half the cost.
Also have 2 no name cheapo accoustics which I plan to upgrade, a cheapo strat copy. Epiphone Accubass and Ibanez SR300 bass attached to some crappy peavey amp a friend broke and abandoned. I had it fixed for $30 and now its mine! :P
Upgrade plans in the future include either an Epiphone Les Paul or a PRS (Korean) Singlecut. Not entirely sure which yet. I only just learned the other day that PRS won the lawsuit on appeal which is an entirely different topic but now that they're a possibility again I'm strongly leaning that way.
You'll see me around some happy playing! :)

Hey. My name is Max and I'm from Austria (now where is that ). I started playing the guitar about 7 months ago (after playing saxophone for 3 years) and it's really fun. I'm kinda into funk (I dont have too much experience in what bands there are that play funk music ... yet). My favourite band is the Red Hot Chili Peppers^^, i really like their style (especialle their style back in 1985). Recently I discovered this site by searching through the internet. Looks pretty useful für anybody playing the guitar :) .

Hi all
Glad to be a part of such talented people.
I would love to be able to play as most of you do.
I'm 48 years old and been around music most all of my life.
I played in about 4 deferent bands and made a living doing it.
The trouble is, I was a drummer.
I have picked up cords here and there and do Know lots of them, I can play a few things, Hot Licks, Small Lead parts, etc
But i have yet to learn a complete song. LOL
I have decided to try and play but you know what they say, You cant teach an old dog new tricks.
The truth is you can, But it just takes a lot longer.
I got my first Guitar about a year ago its a Sigma DR-8 Acoustic.
I found it in a garage sale for $25 and took it to the guitar shop to see what they could do with it.
the frets where washed out pretty bad and the neck was bowed and twisted but he said he thought he could fix it but would make no promises.
When i got it back i could not believe it was the same guitar, Like brand new and maybe even better.
Had an offer of $350 for it and turned it down.
I also have a Fender Squire Strat and a little Practice amp, picked it up for a $100 bucks, It is a very cheap guitar but its just something to play with.
It would be nice to ROCK but I would love to see some country stuff here.
and maybe some Van Halen ?

Hi, My name is Jess and I'm 23, living in Melbourne, Australia.
I started learning guitar at Christmas and LOVE it to bits. I practise as long as I can each day, and when I'm at work, I'm itching to get home and perfect some lick or another. Before that, I'd been playing bass for 6 months. I love guitar and bass equally.
I like most music, but I play punk (Green Day, Billy Talent, Rancid) and 'dark' rock (like My Chemical Romance, AFI, Breaking Benjamin). My favourite band EVER is My Chemical Romance and they get a lot of stick from people because of their quick rise to fame (and sure call it emo, but it's not, you know) but listen to some of their stuff and you can appreciate some of the amazing guitar work from Ray Toro and Frank Iero.
My Gear:
Epiphone Les Paul 100 Electric Guitar (Ebony finish)
Ibanez SR300FM Bass guitar (Red to Black burst finish)
Samick SW260 Acoustic guitar (Blonde finish)
Guitar Rig 2 (software amp/modeler program)
40 watt Bass Amp (no name brand)
Behringer pedals: Bass Limiter/Enhancer, Bass Overdrive, Ultra Distortion
Saving up for a Randall RG-40R 40W Combo and some form of multi-effects pedal which I haven't decided on yet. :)

Well ...
I'm a new member of this forum and should introduce myself to this community.
I'm 53 years old and live in Wesel, Germany.
I have been playing guitar since my youth, but never had any kind of lessons. I always tried to teach myself and -as you can imagine- with just a little success after all these years.
Since I became a member of a german guitar forum, I really got mad to increase my abilities on the guitar and made a big step further on this.
So I'm always looking to find more stuff to learn.
The only problem is: I never learned how to read tabs or notes and don't know much about music theories ... and after alle these years I'm not really mad about starting with it. I just wanna see, try and play ...
And David's videos might be a very good chance for me to get further down the road, learning additional riffs and so on.
I write some songs by myself but also like to cover music I love ... Ballads, Blues, some Country or Rocksongs ...
Well ... last not least:
I hope to find a community here where we all can help each other to get better guitar players because that's what it's all about, isn't it ?
and: David ... thanx a lot to bring up your stuff ... great idea !!!
Keep up the good work ;)

I’m known as PawPaw, 54 years old, live in Indiana. I’ve tried playing guitar more times than I can remember, only learned a few licks here and there. Played with a few friends of mine about 8 years ago and actually learned 20 or so songs all the way through (woo hoo ). I’ve had about 30 different guitars, a few of them were actually pretty nice. Right now I’ve got an Electra that’s had a broken neck but still plays OK. I can’t work any more cause of back trouble and now have tons of time to learn and play. Here’s a couple of songs recorded in my garage.

Heya good people.
Im Matt Lane, I live in kansas city area. I play electric and acoustic guitar and enjoy both of them very much.
I'm only 17 and got my first guitar (electric samick for $200 + a 15 watt crate amp lol) when i was 13 years old. Then when i was 15 i got a jasmine takamine. Neither guitar is very expensive and i have been saving my pennies for an alvarez 12 string and a thin line tele...(it'll take me a while to get em)...but all in all i'm still very skilled in guitar even though my equipment is not so great. I have two AMPS, my first one was t he 15watt crate amp. And i just got a line 6 spider II thats 75 watts and has many preset effects and i love the amp sooo much.
So, yea..thats me and thats what i got and do.

I'm Patrick from Daytona Beach. I've been playing for about 35 years. And I'm still not that good! This site is really really cool! i've learned some very cool guitar licks already from it. I play mostly acoustic now. My main problem really is that I could never judge the distances of the strings and I miss them completely. I wish their was a way to somehow practice on being consistant with the judgement of calculating the distance of the strings. I'm talking about the vertical distances say as in picking an open chord, not up and down the neck. I could never get it right and I still miss strings alot. Just got some new strings today and haven't replaced them in about a year! But, I have played quite alot really and should really be better than I am. I'm looking forward to getting some insight perhaps that I never knew existed on playing guitar on here.

Jacksonville, FL. I just got an American Deluxe Strat. Been playing for 20 years, I'm 40 now. Have a band that plays rock/blues, country and R&B. I consider myself a beginner, since the more you learn the more you realize what you don't know. I'm now am working on music theory to better understand the instrument. Line 6 Spider II 30W amp. Found this site by accident on YouTube and have been coming back ever since.
Took me a while to understand that YouTube is more than a bunch of teens running around with video cameras.

Howdy folks, this here is Matt from Kentucky. I have always wanted to play the guitar, but never got the chance until I bought myself an acoustic guitar for Christmas over a year ago. I got myself a fairly cheap Yamaha FG-180, but hope to upgrade once I get good enough to merit the expense. To me music is a method I use to relieve stress caused by my college classes. This site is a great resource and an awesome community, and I am excited to dig into the feast of videos laid out before me. When I feel confident enough I might even try recording some of my progress.

Hey I'm Danny,
I live in Madera, California which is just north of Fresno. I have been playing guitar for just about a year now. I play a Ibanez acoustic and a Gibson Less Paul Studio. I love both of my guitars.
I take private lessons but have found the internet a great resource for gathering guitar info. I just recently stumbled across NLG and have been very impressed. There are a lot of guitar sites out there but most are filled with adds, pop-ups and just plain crap.
Anyway, I am excited about joining the site(after payday), chatting with you all and continuing to rock out in the free world...

Hello to All,
My name is Walt and I live in Quakertown, PA (near Philly). I just turned 51 in February. I've been learning to play guitar from the internet for last 3 months. I ran across Dave's great vids on You Tube. My 18 year old son got me interested in guitar when he got an acoustic guitar for X-mas few years ago and then an electric this past X-mas. I was really impressed with his new electric. So I bought an electric guitar and tube amp in January. What really pushed me to make this decision was this would be a good way to spend time with him. You should have seen the look on his face at the guitar store walking out with all that gear. He was all beside himself. We've been having fun with it ever since. He is waaaay ahead of me....for now! I mostly like 70's & 80's rock. :D

Spent the next twenty two years serving our great nation, raising a family and living in sunny San Diego. Moved to Texas 10 years ago where I retired from the service.
My wife always knew I still had the bug for playing as evident of my love for live performances. She purchased a cheap acoustic for me this past December and I haven't stopped since.
Next level guitar (year membership here) has been a tremendous help in getting me started. Currently shopping for my first electric (Ibanez Artcore series and a Fender Blues Amp) open for suggestions and ideas. Taking my time trying out many different ones.
Glad I found this site and it is great meeting y'all!

'lo all.
Name's Phil. I'm from Mississippi. Like Fez, not everyone down here's a back wood redneck. We have the internet, after all. Anyway, I'm sixteen and have an acoustic guitar with some inlays. It's pretty. My other norm is a Squier Affinity. Got it for my birthday.
Good to meet everyone.

Alright well i'm Brad and i'm 14. I've been off and on since last summer last year basically just foolin around learning chords and stuff. I can play fairly alright, Brown Eyed Girl and Wish You Were Here (Pink Floyd, minus the 2nd solo) are a couple songs I know. I'm just hoping I can become a good guitar player by the end of this upcoming summer which is probably alot to hope for.

Hello all,
I'm Chuck and I am 30 years old. I started seriously attempting to learn guitar about 3 years ago. Right now, I am focusing on really studying the scales and the notes on the guitar. I want to become both a proficient rhythm and lead player. I really enjoy playing more on my acoustic, since I mostly play alone. I also have an electric. It's an Epiphone Les Paul classic quilt top. I have 2 Takamine acoustics. An EF341SC and an EAN10C natural.

Hi everyone! My name is Soua Xiong. I am 23 years old born on christmas eve and I have been playing guitar on and off for a little over 3 years now...I have an Esteban electric acoustic guitar with his whole package i just bought for a couple of months ago and it's a rather nice guitar...at least I'm satified with it...my very first song I learned was Tesla - Love Song. Yes I finally completed the entire song so that's a good thing. I play a lot of alternatives and I would consider myself an ok player because I can just listen to a song and imitate it already. Now with this site opened up I look foward to becoming a better player and soon take me to the next level of guitar...well is pretty much on my guitar playing history and about myself...if you guys have any questions just email me at S_Xiong83@hotmail.com. I hope maybe not just this site can help but all of us can help each other as well...bye

Hello Everybody!
My name is Kesha. I'm from Lithuania (Europe). I am 14 years old right now and I play guitar for ~4 years, but i had no teacher so there was a small progress. This year i bought a Marshall set (guitar + speaker + misc items(pics, tremollo arm etc.)) and i started to learn seriously. Only a few days ago i found this NextLevelGuitar.Com site and i watched the video guitar lessions. Today i thought that it'd be awesome to meet some other musicians, so i joined this forum. And i guess thats it about me.
See Ya :)
P.S. Sorry for my bad english :S

Hi everyone,
I am 23, and just started playing guitar within the last year after many years of wishing i had. My initial goal was to be able to play some music me and my buddies could make up absurd and offensive lyrics while hanging out. Now as i am gaining experience, i value it for so much more.
I just wanted to say that NLG has improved me more in one month than i had in the entire 9 months before, and for only the fraction i would have paid for lessons. I couldnt be any happier with this site.

Sup all? Names Josh, and Im 16. I've been checking out the youtube vids for about 2 months now, just tonight I got around to registering on the site and forums. I can play very little, and what little I can play is pretty good in my opinion. Certain attempts to sing while playing have ended very badly, but I'm getting better. I have a hand made acoustic from one of my fathers friends, who recently died in a car crash, and some electric and I have no idea what make it is cause I cant understand the writing on it, LOL ! And a small Crate amp. And.. thats all I have to say really. ROCK ON ! ! !

Hi,
I found my way here by subscribing to the awesome YouTube lessons.
I've been playing for about 22 years now. Haven't been playing seriously for about 12 years. Just getting back into scene. One more ho raw. lol
But man I'm rusty as heck lol. Relearning technique and songs. I'm mainly, or was lol, a metal head. Mostly the 80's and 90's. Wish there were stuff like this when I was first learning. I'm still a metal head who loves to shred hard. I've busted med. bass picks when hammering out riffs lol. I have a very stressfull job so playing really mellows me out. Looking forward to learn, learn, and relearn my chops again. Awesome site here.

Hey guys. My name is Scott Longenecker. But just please call me "Scott," or "Scotty." It doesn't matter to me. I'm 15 years old. I started to play guitar in 2006. My Dad was also a muscian. He played in two bands I know, that are called "Backstreets," and "Total Recall." He plays in Canton, Ohio and other states too. He taught me how to play guitar. He said I got better quicker than him, which made me laugh a bit. I don't do solos really well. I'm more of a chord progression-er (no such word), but what I mean is, I'm more of a rhythm person. I play chords very well. I also play bass guitar, but I mostly stick to regular guitar more. I own a Yamaha Pacifica. Its blue. I know its not a guitar that everyone plays, but my Dad bought it for me, and I think in my own opinion, it plays great. I'm getting a Dean bass too. Sometime later on, but as I said, I will stick with regular guitar. Hope to talk to all of you soon.

Hi , im Tony, i live in Northamptonshire UK, Have been trying to teach myself for 4/5 years on and off, family and work constraints and sore fingers slowed me down a bit, have pushed hard the las 3 months and came accross David on youtube from a reccomendation from chordie.com forum.
I started with an inherated spanish thing which i progressed t0 a semi acoustic fender. But wasnt happy, neck was at tad to slim, so i traded it in for an Ibanez which has done me well for the past 3 years, its fab for collecting dust, though not recently, Went shopin yesterday and purchased a yamaha electric, looks the dogs and sounds great. I decided to start learning again from scratch using Guru Davids tuition, i apparantly had a few bad habbits. Biggest prob i have now is splitting my time between practice and surfin this site. Its becoming an obsesion.
Your all good people and we all can do it!!

I live in Kentucky and have been playing off and on for about 5 years. I used to take lessons, and had kind of quit playing, other than rarely, until about a month ago. I have been trying to get back into it. I love classic rock like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynyrd, AC/DC, Black Crowes, Allman Brothers, ect.. I like Sublime, AIC, GNR, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Black Stone Cherry, Ozzy, Sabbath, Jimi, Beatles, Tom Petty, Blind Melon, and just about anything with good guitar playing in it. Here is a pic of some of my guitars.
I work in the health care industry and am a fan of firearms too.
Take care and happy playing.

Hello Good People?
Damn that'll be trademarked soon :P
Thought I had better jump in with both feet and say hello. Been Lurking around here for awhile and ended up here via the Youtube lessons.
I'm Garry and I'm 31 and live in the UK. I set out to learn guitar when i was about 15 but was told i was no good, so moved onto bass. I stuck with that for a while and played in a couple of bands and did a few gigs. Then the inevitable band fall out happened and I put down my bass for a good few years. Couple of years ago I refound my bass, but decided it wasnt much fun playing on my own so I went out and bought a Electro Acoustic Takamine (amazing guitar btw). I had a bit of a dabble on that but them lost my way with it and that went and lived in its case for another couple of years. Anywho fast forward to about 7 weeks ago and theres me surfin the tube and all of a sudden David pops up and used his mind control powers to make me go and get my guitar down and have a strum along. And thats that been playing daily since then, I forgot how much fun it is.
Good to meet you all, and thanks David and Tim

Well I think I've actually been here on the forum since it started but never got around to introducing myself so hear it goes.
My name is Mike, I'm 27 years old, I live in Texas. For as long as I can remember music has been a part of my life. My parents were hippies/bikers, so I grew up listening to zepplin, ac dc, GNR, pink floyd, skynyrd and the list goes on and on. Both my parents had guitars at various times of my childhood but the most I ever did was pluck around on them, I never was overly concerned with guitars as a kid. But the older I got and the more I realized how important music was to me, the more I wanted to make it. So after months and months of fantasizing about getting a guitar, my girlfriend bought me a cheap pawn shop Eleca acoustic for Christmas of 2005. I spent a year, a year not knowing what to do with it, what I was supposed to practice, what to learn, anything. I didn't even understand the importance of a chord. And on top of that, I had the tuning way off, don't ask me how but I did, so when I would strum a chord it sounded horrible so I thought it was the guitar and just let it set. Then on Halloween of 2006 I ran into a guy at a party playing guitar, and it inspired me again, so I went and bought some new strings and restrung my gtar and realized I needed the strings in "ebgdae". Once I tuned them and strummed a c major chord I was hooked! I was strumming every day till my fingers were numb, but I still didn't have any direction and at that point (5 months ago) the most I knew was chords c, d, and g. Then in January I got on my g/f's comp. and got on youtube and typed "guitar lesson", and found David teaching last kiss I think it was, and good lord I felt like I hit the jackpot! It was exactly what i was looking for, I was soo excited to find these incredible guitar lessons and here I am just a few months later and my playing has grown a million times over. I learned more in one month with David and Tim than I did in over one year by myself! I am so very grateful for it. Playing guitar has become and will always be one of the most enjoyable things for me in my life, and I owe it all to David and Tim. Rock On.
Long I know, but I hope someone will find something inspiring in it.

Hello everyone..err..Good People! (Love that expression by the way, Dave)
My name is Alex and I'm 16 years of age. Been playing the guitar for close to two years now. Kind of slacked off a bit for a few months, but after finding this site, I've started getting back into it more than I ever was previously.
My set-up is quite dismal. I have a regular Strat, as well as a stock Fender amp. Looking to upgrade soon, at least when I get the dough.
Anyways, thought I'd put in my welcome, looking forward to hanging around here and practicing some guitar.
Thanks Dave & Tim for the site, and I'll see ya all around.

I have a ovation pinnacle acoustic and a new Fender MIM standard strat which I really like even if some guys do say there not so hot, I found some of the licks David does really difficult up the neck on the ovation, which is why I got the strat and its so much easier. My strat cost me 350 pounds seems they can be had for 400USD, The uk being ripped off again :)

Well I ran across NLG on YouTube and had to stop by.
My name is Eric I am a 45 year old victom of a mid-life crisis. I have always had a passion to learn Guitar from the age of 12 or 13 but never really had the oppurtunity to faithfully prusue it. I have had my share of Guitars and amps in the past. Bought sold or traded on a whim or out of frustration :( My fav was an early LP Standard I got from a friend of mine when he upgraded to a Custom. I ended up hocking it for rent a few years later. I now have an Ibanez RGT 5 with EMG pups and a Roland Cube 60. And now am actively learning.
Some of the lessons here are old hat and many are very good but my biggest problem is applying it. I can read music and understand theory. I just suck at playing

Hello everyone!
I found this site by looking for guitar videos on youtube. Glad I came across it. This site looks to be a great resource for learning to play the guitar.
Let's see a little about me I am 24 years old and I am a web developer and I have never played the guitar before. My birthday is coming up in 2 weeks on May 7th and a guitar is what I have asked for.
I can't wait to get it and start using the lessons from this site to learn to play.
See you all around the forum.

-= !,,! =- hey fellow guitarists, -= !,,! =-
I'm from the U.S. and i'm mostly interested in rock music like AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Metallica just to name few. I'm also starting a band with some friends, so far we aren't to great but we are working hard to get better. Currently we only got 3 members 2 guitarists and a drummer, so we need to find a bass and a singer. I can play alot of intros to many different songs, lots of AC/DC and other intros.
