Hey guys, I'm applying to Belmont School of Music and they suggest we play in our audition a 12 bar blues progression rythem track and demonstrate the ability to play lead over it.

My question is, if i'm planning to play mostly blues pentatonic and minor modes over the chords in the 12 bar progression would I want to use a minor key? such as the progression in the key of Am or would it be more wise to play something in the key of say C major. I ask because most information I am receiving is pointing to pentatonic and blues scales played over minor chords.

There's probably some obvious answer I dont see, but why not mix it up and do a little of both?

at least for blues or rock, you will want to use a major key progression and the minor pent. for lead. I.E. Key of A major for rhythm: A--D--E. And a-minor pent. for lead.
