Not sure if this should go here or in the gear section. Anyways, I need a recommendation for a new microphone. It's going to be used to record acoustic guitar mainly. I have a price range of about $100-$200. Nothing that needs phantom power please.

The most popular, professional instrument recording microphone used as pretty much the industry standard for the last some-ot years is the Shur SM57--it is in your price range and is really the only one to consider. Don't take my word for it, just look around and see what everyone is recording with. It is probably the single most common piece of equipment that any and all musicians have.

Again, this microphone IS the industry standard for instrument recording.

Yah, i've heard great things about this mic. I just usually saw people recording electric guitar with it. I guess if it can do that, it can record acoustic.

The SM57 is a good choice, yes. I have one. You said nothing that requires phantom power but for 100-200 bucks you can get a good condenser mic and an Art tube preamp. Personally, I'd go that route, but even if you do buy a dynamic mic, you might want to consider running it through a tube preamp of some kind. I think the extra warmth sounds really good.

If you have that preamp, how is it? Also, any condensor mics you can suggest. I'm not too sure on any of them.

I like it. For the price, it's quite good. I think it's better for recording acoustic guitar (whether plugging into the unit itself with an acoustic-electric or utilizing a mic) than for vocals. When I gig I actually run my Alvarez acoustic-electric through it. Not only does it add some warmth and low end, but I use the OPL limiter to keep my signal under control rather than using a compression pedal like my Boss CS-3.

I have a Samson C01 condenser mic (http://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=1601&brandID=2). It works well for me, but I did buy it in 2004. I'm sure there are some other good options in that price range now as well.

Sounds good. I found a really good deal on GC. Its two MXL condenser mics and an M-Audio pre-amp with phantom power for only $120. From all of the reviews Ive seen, everyone likes it. Im really considering that.

Cool. I went to GC's website and checked it out. Looks like a good choice!
