I always check out the user reviews at HC when considering a purchase. Sadly, there's only 4 for this amp. click here- (http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Guitar+Amp/product/Crate/XT15R+Preamp/10/1)

For roughly the same price($119), I always recommend checking out the Vox Pathfinder 15R. 92 Reviews here(click). (http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Guitar+Amp/product/VOX/Pathfinder+15R/100/1) Great sounds for practice. I've used it live a few times also. Send signal-out into the club's PA, or run into larger speaker cab. BTW-I also own a real Vox...an AC15...sometimes considered the "quintessential Vox sound"...but I find I'm using it less and less these days in favor of the simple, cheap Pathfinder.

Good luck!

Hi, I don't know if it's in your price range or not, but I recently purchased a Fender G-Dec 30 practise amp. (Around $375ish)
I did a LOT of research first, and this is one sweet amp, both ratings-wise and hands-on experience-wise.

Check it out at http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=2350500000

Anyway it has a digital interface with many different amps built into it, multiple effects, even Drums, Bass and Keyboard backup accompanyment built in! (if you don't have a regular bunch of guys to jam with, this is the ultimate, as you have a band to jam with, anytime you want!

You can also record your licks, and play them back, plug in an ipod etc for additional backing tracks, etc. You'll love it!

I've got Cubes too. I keep one Mirco in my car, and one in my truck. Sometimes we have tailgate meetings* at the end of the day on our construction sites. These 'lil battery powered amps sound very good. You can also use the AC adapter when electricity is available.

*"Tailgate meeting" = having a couple beers;)

With an amp like that, you can 'find your tone' to see what music you want to mostly play. Thats one thing I like about them.

You should check out either line 6 or marshall.

I have a Kustom 12 Gauge....its got a huge sounds for only a 16W amp (its the 12" speaker) Tried a few others in the price range and none compared. The only problem I have with it is the volume pots have sensitive areas and dull areas.

Learned that lesson the hard way.

As far as 'bang for buck' goes, I would say that a Vox Valvetronix 15 watt combo would be great for you. You have many, many tones and your fingertips to really start experimenting to find the tone that's yours. I've also found that, unlike Line 6, it seems to skirt the whole "digital sound" problem...

cheers.

speaking of that Randall... it's now available in Camo Tolex, the RG15XMRC.... hehe, I had to mention it. Makes me chuckle ever so slightly.
