Hey guys I am looking for info on a guitar that is owned by my Dad. My Dad owns an L-48 Gibson electric hollowbody and has a coaxal screw in cable instead of the standard plug in jack. All I know about this guitar is that it was made in either 1947 or 1949. This is a beautiful guitar. I have contacted Gibson about this guitar and their words to me were "How much does your father want for it" as they currently DO NOT have this model in their collection. I can't find any info on this guitar , so can anyone help? It was given to my Dad by my Grandfather in the 70's and was also the same guitar that Chet Atkins played at one time. Thanks Guys

Ya I know they are nice playing. I played it a few times when I was younger when my dad wasn't home lol. The action on it is just phenominal! My Grandfather had it from new and used to play it all the time.

Do you mean your guitar was actually played by Chet Atkins or is it just the same model Mr. Atkins used to play?

No I meant it is the same guitar he used at one point in his music career lol.

Yes this model resembles quite a few of them but it is an L-48. Most of the L-48's I have seen were all acoustic and the odd one had a pickup.

There is an adaptor that was made, by a third party company to convert the coaxial input into a 1/4 inch audio jack, to preserve the originallity of these guitars (and a few others).. Im almost positive i have one someplace in this house.. Ill see if i can track it down.

Wow the guitar looks to be in exceptional condition given it's age! If Gibson wants to buy this from you, you're probably looking at a small gold mine.

I would milk them for every dollar they are willing to pay.

Ya that would be nice to know if they did want to buy it, but since it is an heirloom it would never be sold! Unless the price was right, everyone has their price and mine is $644,000,000.00 dollars lol lol. The guitar itself is in immaculate shape it has hardly been touched in the last 30 years.
