Opinion only, but I think it's the best multi-effect out there if you have a GOOD AMP.
I was using a GT-8 live when they first came out. My friend Jim here (http://www.diamondbackband.net/bios/bios.php) with Diamondback is still using his. We both used the COSM amp simulations directly into the PA's but after a while one starts missing the sounds of a good tube amp.
I traded mine in on the ME-50 and ran it before my Vox AC15. It was just so much simpler than the GT-8 and didn't have that crapload of unused features. Being able to make adjustments with knobs was way more convenient too. The effects in it that I used did their job well and sounded good; compressor, delay, lead boost, tuner.
In the end I just decided to go back to individual pedals and seek out exacting sounds I wanted for each effect; Keeley compressor, vintage Tube Screamer, Ibanez analog delay. The 3 pedals are a bit more pricey than the multi-effect unit but they're exactly what my ears 'pictured' as perfect.

Lets face it anything Boss/Roland make is worth buying. The ME-50 , GT-6 and GT-8 are all excellent choices! I too am in the market for either a GT 6 or GT 8. The GT8 looks more appealing to me with the most of any effects processor including the new BOSS synth sound for turning your guitar into an organ lol and the new Rotophaze which sounds cool too not to mention about 30 or 40 other effects. It sounds really cool! It also has 30 different overdrive/distortion modeling effects to duplicate any sound you after. Not only that you can replicate the sound of ANY pickup on the market as well as ANY amp on the market with all of the presets this unit has. With that said it really doesn't matter what kind of guitar or amp your using. It could be a cheap Sears electric and you playing through your home sterio ( with a half decent EQ built in mind you) and with this BOSS GT8 G.E.P. unit you can sound like Eric Clapton or Kerry King lol. That's the beauty of the BOSS COSM technology.

I messed up. Mine was the older, gold-colored GT-6 version. It was a few years ago. I haven't kept up with them for a while but knew the 8 was the newest design. I thought that was what I had. The newer GT-8 is black in color.

I've had a ME 50 for about a year, although I don't play that much electric I've found the ME 50 gives me all the sounds i need, it's very easy to use/setup and the 30 in built settings are very good. For the cost I'd say it was an excellent buy, also it's made very well and very durable.

I think everything BOSS/Roland make is extremely road worthy. Evrything is tough and hard to even dent! I have had an early BOSS OC-2 octive pedal for years and years now and I don't even think it's scratched lol. Bullet proof paint lol. What did the ME 50 run you if you dont mind me asking?

I think it was about £150, $343 Canadian. It's bound to be cheaper in Canada, everything is more expensive here in the UK.

I would like to check the ME 50 out, but don't know of anyone who has one around me. I don't even think my guitar stores here carry any and I have about 5 in Oshawa. The one store carries BOSS and Roland products but I have never seen andy of the BOSS multi effects processors.

I have the ME-50 and it's pretty good. The wah wah really blows in my opinion but most of the other effects are decent. The Univibe effect is really why I bought it, Im sure it's not as good as a 300 dollar "boutique" vibe, but it's cool.
