Ive seen so many videos online, and met so many people, who simply underestimate the power and usefulness of the FloydRose setup. This can be your BEST friend, but on the same note, it can be your WORST enemy. If your guitar has a floyd rose on it, and you havent messed with it, there is a very good chance, that with about 20 minutes worth of work, you can have your guitar playing, 100 times better than before.

With the proper setup, you can acheive spot on intonation, sustain for days, and clean tones.

Within the next few days, ill post up some pictures, of the actual setup of a floyd rose setup on one of my Jacksons. I just picked this guitar up, and its way outta wack. I will go over everything that you need to know on how to set the bridge up effectively, efficiantly, and most important, safely.

Stay tuned.

Kool. I have a Music Man OLP with a FR and every time I try to mess with the bridge It is a real B!T(H to get back in tune. Last time I had it so messed up I took it to a guitar shop for a set up. Any advice on RF will be appreciated.

Well, i think that Floyd Rose are great! on the more expensive guitar, if it's a cheap guitar, it sucks.
Theres lots of great guitars with floyd rose systems that dosen't go out of tune when you put on new strings.
And i think that the reason some people dosen't like floyd rose is because of that.

Well like an idiot I learned the hard way. 1st mistake I removed all the strings so when I put on the new ones it was all out of wack. Last time I restrung I did 1 string at a time and it went much smoother.

Hehe :) well thats also why many people dislikes Floyd Rose, cause they are such a pain in the a** when it comes to put new strings on.

The problem is that if you try to replace all the strings at once, then the tuning will become difficult. If you tune the 6th string first, then the other strings, when you finish the 6th will be too flat... if you begin again to tune the strings, the first always be flat at the end. You will end up with your tremolo not paralell with the body of the guitar, it will be high up :)
If you change the strings one by one, and tune them when changed, then it will pull the tremolo with the same force as the old string, so you will have none of the problems.
If someone must change all the strings at once, then tune them approximately first to lift the tremolo paralell with the body. Then tune the strings a bit over the correct pitch, to be sharp a bit. The first should be the sarpest, then the others a little less sharp, and the last tuned precisely. If you lucky or experienced, then when you finish they all will be in tune. You can repeat this if the differences are small, but beware, if you sharpen the tone of a string all the others will go a bit flat, and if you flatten a string, all others will go sharp.
If you end up with the tremolo too high, then rest a bit, drink some sedatives, or go to smoke, then detune all strings and try again ;)

JStickley, waiting for the tips!

That's some good info Jesse I'm looking at a guitar with a Floyd rose cheap because the guy took all of the strings off and couldn't get it set back up proper so he took the new strings off and there it sits so I'm tossing the idea around of getting it I think the thing was only a couple of months old when all this took place. He never did anything with it as he has a couple of Les Paul customs that he plays.
Good stuff

Grab it, I can walk you through getting it back to life.. I repair more guitars with that problem than any other..

The only thing with the licesend floyd roses are the crappy knife edge, but.. if you know what your doing, its just as good as a "real" FR.

Nice work man!

btw I learned how to service the guitar from this page
http://www.ibanezrules.com/tech/setup/index.htm
its for ibanez guitars but the method is mostly the same for others too.
