If you guys need a recording program you should use Audacity. You can download it free on the net. You can record with a microphone or better if your guitar is directly connected to the computer . For that, you need a stereo or mono extension that you plug in your sound card and then plug that in a 1/4 inch adaptor and then you plug that in your line out of your amp. It gives you a way better sound and you dont listen other noise that could scrap your recording^^. You can play as many tracks as you want with audacity so you can make the rythmic guitar and the lead after for example . If you have any question you may post after this!

Have fun!

Now i have to use audacity cause i lost my registration info
to Sonar 4.0 that i had installed but after my computer crashed
i had to format and lost lots of info.

With Audacity, i cant figure out how to make track 1 play
at the same time as i record track 2.

For example, if i recorded rithym on track 1 and then on
track 2 i want to record lead or vocals or whatever, when
i click REC, track 1 mutes and i cant hear what i recorded
so the end result is that my timing is often off.
in Sonar, i can hear what i recorded on track 1 while i
record track 2.

is there any way i can do the same with Audacity?
And, is there any plug-ins that i could install so that
it will recognize AC3 sound files?

Thanks

NapoLoso..you should contact Cakewalk to get your key:

I use Cakewalk to do my recordings. I used Audacity and it's a great free program..but I found Cakewalk has more power and control and allows for nicer mixes. Plus..it's not that expensive. I got mine for about 30 bucks

This is where I really could use help!!! I am like a crochedy old dog in this area. When it comes to recording or mixing, I am totally in the dark. I have cakewalk home studio. I want to try and jam over a wav file and I cant. Then I want to try and jam over a midi, and I cant. I get so pissed and loose my patience (Which I barely have any......thats half the problem LOL) I just shut it down. Recording for dummies is much too advanced for me....I need recording for tards!!! LOL!!

You should be able to record over the files Pagan.
You may need to Import the audio as 1 track first.
Then create a new track for your instrument.
Make your instrument track "hot" so you can record on it. Then just press the Record button in the software. It should play the imported track and record the other one.

Did that make sense?
I can likely do up a screenvideo showing the steps...just need to find my software that allows me to do that..hahah

good news bad new there napoloso....after effects is less expensive then it used to be...bad news is the production bundle is still well over a grand...when i got my first version of AE it was $2,200.00(production bundle)...you can get a full version now for like $1,400.00(production bundle)...the standard version is under $1,000.00...lightwave is the same...i don't have it..but the local vid dealer offered it to me for $900.00...one thing everyone in the biz tells me about L/W and i'm sure it's true for Maya...most who are really good with those programs are dedicated to them..meaning that's all they offer...they are so intensely complicated and time consuming that you have to commit to them full time to stay ahead of the curve..especially if your offering them out as a service...but i couldn't live without AE...it is what puts me ahead of the competition here because i'm the only one who has it...and took the time to certifiy in it...

How long did it take you to get your certicate on AE?
I plan on taking some training and hopefully get
Adobe certified , i'd really like to start my own small
video production business audio recording too kinda
like all in one place but most likely to start with vdeo
as sound recoding will require much more equipement
mixers and stuff.

My apologies i'm getting out of topic now :o
