I am seeing more and more requests for specific songs or people asking the chords to a particular song. That's really not what this site is about people, theres other sites where you can find any chord/tab for any song you want.

This site is a place to learn and use some songs as a guide to understand what you are learning. for instance...in the member area, one module covers sus2 and sus4 chords, not far after theres a lesson using "guns n' roses patience" as an example. the sus chords weren't really even mentioned in the lesson, just the basic chords but Lo and behold if you listen closely to the actual song they are using lots of suspended chords. ahhh haaa, practical use for what you learned...which is why when i requested Jack Johnson, I didnt say any specific song, i'm interested in learning his strumming technique

I'm sure David and Tim could sit there all day long taping song after song but what do you have when it's all said and done, you can play that one particular song, you have no other knowledge of what to do with those chords. If i wanted that I would just go find a tab site and learn songs all day long..

anyway, my point is if you learn the chords, notes, etc...and train your ear to recognize them you wont have to request songs because you will be able to figure it out on your own. don't beleive me?, ask david or some of the guys who have been playing for awhile.

Yes .. training your ear is key. You'll notice not many of the song lessons are similar. David chooses songs for their teaching content. If he did lessons on all the A, D, C, G songs out there ... they would all be the same.

I don’t agree with your opinion about what this site should be and maybe Dave and Tim could clarify this.
My understanding of this site was to help people to play and improve upon playing the guitar.
That being said, that could cover a very large scope of music in general but, with there slogan being “YOU ASK FOR IT YOU GOT IT” I accepted the fact that there would be
extremes to either side of the spectrum, I find myself watching the song videos or the lessons and even reading the posts going from being totally bored to totally lost and that’s the way it should be, there’s something there for everyone. If enough people want to pick apart every chord in a song or dive into 3rds 5ths 7ths or have any picking pattern be picked apart,
THEY / WE ASKED FOR IT THEY / WE SHOULD GET IT.

Please understand when I say this that it is not a shot at you or anyone else, it is simply my opinion of what I'd like this site to be. :)

If this site actually teaches you how to play a guitar, no video should be required to learn a new song. If your goal is to simply mimic what an instructor does in a video, then you will always need "song lessons" to learn a new song.

My goal is to learn to play the instrument proficiently so I can easily learn a new song or join in a jam session with material I may not know ahead of time. If I really learn to play my guitar well, it should not matter if I already know the song.

I bought a video last year that taught me to play 10 'riffs'. The instructor was very good at showing how to play the songs. So now I can play "Smoke on the Water" and "Iron Man", but I still have no clue what I'm playing. I cannot apply those lessons to anything else. I hope that this site never turns into a "Learn to play by mimicking the instructor" site.

thats exactly what i was trying to say...they could make videos of song after song and dont get me wrong I do like the song lesson videos but my goal is to learn the guitar and how chords and notes interact with one another.
