My live rig consist of a Marhshall 1960 JCM800 and a Reissue 1960 Cab. My practice rig, at the rehearsal space, is a Peavey Mark 3 Half Stack.

My home rig is a Line 6 spider 2 30 watt amp, or I just play through the computer speakers, due to most of the time im recording somthing.

Yeah...been around for 50 years and one of the most recognized names in amplification.

I can't even check "other" on this one. It would be grouped with several forms of crap. Class by itself.

My opinions
Marshall- Overpriced. Though that JVM410H looks rather sexy
Mesa- My amp brand, just the clean channel on it is pretty bad.
Peavey- Eddie Van Halen, His Peavey 5150/6505+ can almost get as gainy as a Mesa
Fender- Great Cleans
Vox- Not really tried them to tell.
Line 6- The moddler, if you can't decide between 2 amps get it, doesn't sound as good as the original but hey.
Krank- Haven't heard a single good word from them, I hear only their 'signature' models are worth it.
Roland- Never really tried
Crate- Their Blue Voodoo's has some balls on them.
Behringer- Never really tried
Other- That amp company is awesome. Great cleans and distortion to scare old ladies 36 blocks down

Not to sound condecending or anything, but, you really have NOTHING to base your opinions on. Each one of these amps have there own quailties that define the sound that comes from them. To say Marshall is "overpriced" is really doing nothing but showing your "lack of experience" with them. To have an opinion like you do about Krank amps, is just completly blowing my mind. You dont have anything to base it on, other than hearsay. And MESA.. While they are decent rigs, They are far from, cutting edge, and far from anything "special". They, if anything, are overpriced, due to there wack power ratings, and there shoddy boards. But what do i know, Im just a Guitar Tech.

Heheh...Amps are subjective just like guitars are. I love my Kustom amp and will likely stay with them for a long time. I've owned Marshalls, they're good but are *in my opinion* much harder to get really kicking tone out of. IT's there..just hard to find. I've owned Crates...excellent little amp...but personally found the distortion a bit buzzy. I've owned a ton of different amps from different manufacturers over the years...they all have their good and bad points.

I guess it comes to this....everyone has opinions on what sounds pleasing to their ear.

Dont know the cost of Mesa in US but over here in the UK they are extortionate, nice but verrrry pricey. I have a Marshal 15 watt practice amp that sounds good for the little dosh I paid, also have Fender Blues Junior which I love, drool after an orange thunderverb but will probably end up with a AD30 HTC and 1x12 cab as cannot justify much over 30W for bedroom playing. Also has anyone else tried the epiphone valve standard, my mate has one and it is unbelievably good for the money a class A 15W valve amp for under £200 and it has a nice vintage sound to it.

My first amp was a Line6 Spider II. A friend told me to get it cuz I hadn't defined "my sound" yet. He was right. I loved it when I first bought it. As I played more and more over a period of monthes and started gravitating to specific groups (LZ, AC/DC, etc.) I grew unhappy with it because I could never quite get the right sound I was looking for. I would recommend newbies go with something like a Line6 for the different amp models until they too define their sound.

I then bought a Marshall sold state and right out of the box it was perfect. It fits my style of music and I never give it any thought when I strap up. I used to blow a good hour every practice session on my Line6 just trying to find an acceptable sound. It wasn't the amp's fault, it was mine for wanting it to do something it couldn't.

Add me to the Marshall camp.

I've got a Laney GC-60A. Wife bought it for me about 5 years ago, when I started taking lessons (and quit shortly thereafter). Never really got much use until about a month ago. I like the fact that it has two channels, so I don't need to do a lot of adjustments when I switch between my electric and the Stratacoustic. It is footswitch capable, but finding 1/4" TRS cables is harder than you'd think. All in all, getting a new amp is last thing on my mind as I got this one at a great price and have been very happy with it. :D

I use a fender champion 30. Nice amp, easy to get close to the sound you want, but to get exact, it takes a lot of trial and error. It has a hum to it though, my only complaint. Can't say I've used any other amps besides demo tubes (nice amps).

My line-up or, should we say 'line-in': ( )

Marshall Lead 12 -the mini stack (mid-80s?) Love it. Love it. Love it.

Fender Princeton Chorus -with foot switch. nice, quality amp. I don't even know what half the buttons do.

Fender Bassman 60 -rocks my house plenty

Peavey Audition 110 -can't go wrong for $50

another Marshall -small, CD15X, something like that. For some reason, it came with an Ibanez bass. Nice to have around. Inexpensive. Portable. I let people borrow it, all the time.

None of these are very big. I don't gig. I don't play very loud (I wish I could). It's usually through phones. It seems the mini-stack is the one I plug into the most. Maybe, it's gravity. :)

Oh, yeah, my Lead 12 is black. They came in black, white, red, green, even gold, I think. Pretty cool.

Just picked up this rig a little over a week ago on my local Craigslist.

I got an awesome deal me thinks, $400 for the complete package. Peavey Classic 30 and matching 112e cab. The cabs haven't been made for a few years now and they regularly go for $250 alone on ebay. I really lucked out on this one.:D

I've got an old Award Session - the Sessionette 75 combo.

IMO it has beautiful clean tones and on the 'driven' channel sounds brilliant for power chords but can get a bit muddy with too much gain when playing lower notes or open chords and it has enough power to blow out all the windows if played in my little house - I can only turn it up halfway at home or else it sets off the neighbour's car alarm lol. I haven't really got to know it yet, though as I'm new to electric guitars having bought mine on a whim. I was happy playing acoustic stuff until recently then needed a new challenge. I'm having fun though learning new stuff like pinch harmonics:)

My main amp right now is a Genz-Benz El Diablo 60C. Wasn't cheap, but I love it. I've also got an Epiphone Valve Jr. 5w Class A head with a 1x12 Johnson cab. I've got a little Marshall Lead 15 in the corner that hasn't been used in about 3 years. I should sell it.

Now, I know that tone is subjective, but I'm afraid that a lot of folks here are on the Marshall bandwagon simply because of the brand name. Not EVERYTHING Marshall puts out is great. In fact, I haven't heard many unmodded Marshall's that impress me. There isn't much of their modern stuff that I find has good tone. The JCM 800 is nice, but it's pretty one dimensional. The MG series are good practice amps, I guess, but their valve amps sound very sterile to me.

I have played quite a few Marshalls from the smallest to the biggest, and I ended up buying something else. I have a lot of other opinions about Marshall, but I'll keep them to myself.

Im not a big fan of marshalls myself, at least not the new ones.

Vox ac30 custom classic for me, now all I have to do is actually buy it (It takes me months to buy anything =/)

Right now Ive just got a marshall practice amp. It sounds, hmm, sickly? Lol I use an overdrive pedal because the distortion was awful, and I must say the little pedal definately gives it a tube sound so its not so bad when Im by myself playing away. Go go tube pedals!

I personally feel that the ac30 is the best amp ever, when I bought my strat I tested them all through an ac30 and Ive done the same with everything else. Everything at 5 o clock for me, I think that pedals do effects like OD and reverb better than amps so I always play through clean, and I must say the ac30 really is a top notch amp.

The marshall stacks are amazing though. The same cannot be said for their regular amps however.

I have a Line 6 Spider III 75 watt. I bought it for very specific reasons and most of them are not related to tone as compared to other amps. The biggest reason I bought it is because it fits how I wanted to practice. It has an aux in plug so I can hook up my Micro Br or my mp3 player or computer and play a song or drum track through the amp and play over it.

That way, I am not using two sources for sound which basically means I can plug my headphones into my amp and hear everything that is going on. When I bought it, I played almost exclusively with headphones since I practice at night mostly. I play without more now but it is still a great feature.

I tried some of the vox valvetronix and liked them but they didnt have the aux feature so I couldnt consider them. All in all, I like the Spider. I get tons of sounds (I find myself only using a couple now) and they sound fine. If I were in a band, I would have to start looking at something serious but for a practice amp, this thing is all you could ever ask for.
