Hey there,
just something i tried and it was weird at first, but made some open to barre changes seamless.
Take either open chords E major or A minor, the normal fingering would be the 1,2,3 formation, if then you were to change to barred F or B minor it would mean all 4 fingers have to move.
Try finger formation 2,3,4 and leave 1 free, then change, its just a case of moving along and putting finger 1 down, its a huge improvement to my playing, although at first seems like a step backwards to go forwards.
rock on

i have played my e chord like that for years and for exactly the reason you say. you slide right into a barre. the only thing is that you need to be able to play the open e with 1, 2, 3 also so that you have 4 available for the seventh and the occasisional note hammer out of the e position. one song comes to mind is suzie q by ccr. i lke to play that out of an open e but then use the pinky to hit the little filler notes that are the signature to that tune. when i first learned that i had to overcome the fact that i had locked in the open e using using 2, 3, 4. that made it a little more difficult until i finally got comfortable with both positions. but you are 100% right that is a great trick to learn. playing a guitar is like playing pool....in that "leaving" your fingers in the right position for the next chord is critical for fluid playing. just like leaving the ball in the right spot for the next shot.
