i'm a new player, but i have so find somewhere to blow some money so my gf doesn't spend it, so i've been buying some pretty crazy equipment.

i used to have a roland cube 60 and thought it had a pretty good sound till i heard some marshall tube amps. i messed around with a few, that the store let me take home to try out, and decided i wanted the 100 watt version, not the 60, i just thought it had a little more gain, as well and individual controls for each channel and a VPR (virtual power reduction) that makes the amp funtion like a 25 watt amp, alowing to play very quitly when i have to. also, allows me to get the volume up high to drive the tubes a little harder as very few people could acutally crank a 100w marshall except when playing a stadium.

The tone from this is INSANE. For some reason, when you play ac/dc, it sounds like ac/dc. when you play chili peppers it sounds like chilli peppers. Oh w8, i figured out why, probably cause half of the recordings i listen to use a very similar marshall head, if not the same one.

THe clean channel is ok, not a bright or dynamic as my fender hot rod deluxe, but quite quite good. But the CRUNCH is wicked good for any chords, and rythem playing, and the lead, is to die for. full, rich, loud, with great bass.

It's a bitch to move around, but its also a great show peice, i got mine in a custom color and it's signed by Jim Marshall. Of course, as soon as i get it, the newer marhshall comes out, that has 12 channels, but to be honest, the 3 on here is plently for me.

if you get a chance to play a marshall tube amp, jump at it, and crank it up. then i'm sure you'll agree with me, its worth every penny. (plus, i love having equipment that will last forever!) i hope one day my kids get this, i hope not to soon though cause i'm luv'n it.

I tried one before. I couldn't get a tone out of it due to the tubes being blown and that was the last one Guitar Center had in Nashville.
Do you mean this new Marshall head

If so I would try out that one. A lot more features and only 100 dollars more. Your choice.

i can't say, because i've never heard the amp. But i've never heard a solid state amp sound like a good tube amp. I guess you'll have to let you ears tell you.

If i was in the market to buy now, i'd definitly check out that amp. but i picked my stuff up used, and saved about half of retail. So that new head wasn't an option, it acutally came out a few weeks after i had bought mine. 12 channels to me seems a little excessive, but might allow you to avoid using any pedals as you could program the exact real tone you want. So maybee it good, i just like the simplicity of the TSL, set each channel with the gain and volume you want, bass, treble, mid, and reverb, then select between the 3.
