Hey,

I'm looking for a cool guitar that's a little off the beaten path. The xplorer looks cool seems like a good guitar. I haven't done much research on the guitar, and I was hoping that someone here has or had one and could shed some light on the subject.

Hey Space..I replied to your other post on this subject...but here's my 2 cents on the subject ;)

I've owned a few Destroyers and a couple of Explorer knock offs...I love the feel and weight of these beasts....BUT make sure you have a strong back cause they aren't light. After about 2 hours of playing you're shoulder will be screaming. That's the only real downside that I ever found.

The upsides: Extra weight (wood) makes for excellent tone and sustain from this style. They do have that "Cool" factor on looks. And not everyone has one :D

The Jackson Kelly's are also a guitar that is another one to look at.

Eaither or, the amount of wood in them, makes them screamers man. If you can, find a neck through model, and stay away from the bolt ons.

I hate heavy guitars more than some. Actually I only play those in the 6-7lb range. Mohagony, solid-bodied Gibsons always seem on the heavy side to me. The semi-hollow SG's are an exception here.

Warmoth sells these alder bodies at $190, with a lot of other species available.(link) (http://www.warmoth.com/guitar/bodies/radical.cfm?fuseaction=explorer)

As well as the Explorer necks(link) (http://www.warmoth.com/guitar/necks/necks.cfm?fuseaction=explorer_warmothpro) $173 & up

You can do an exact factory look or all-out custom finish. Choices are limitless.

As much as I want to make my own, and trust me, I WANT to make my own guitar, but getting the parts are a little out of my price range. Awesome idea and I wish I had more money.
