Hey,

Like i've said in the introduce yourself thread, I said that I don't have any of my own gear. I use my bro's:( . I'm looking into a Ephiphone or Gibson Xplorer, or strat:D . I would like a thin neck because I have short fingers:mad: . I also don't really mind the weight of a guitar, unless it weighs enough to make my shoulder hurt from the strap:eek: . I would like a versitale guitar that can go from funk to rock to country to metal really easy. Does all of this really mater? Or should I just say "Looking for a guitar"?

Hey SpaceTrucker,

I've owned Explorer copies and love them...but be ready...they tend to be really heavy (weight wise). Strat style guitars are a great choice also...where you're looking for a thin neck, I would suggest checking out the Ibanez and/or jackson and ESP/LTD lines of guitars. They all have very thin necks and come in a wide variety of body shapes.

Make sure you try the guitars before you order. Ibanez and ESP do have thin necks, but they're Wide at the nut. The width at the nut could cause you more problems than what I call the "depth" of the neck.

I want to but can't find a store that carry Xplorers of anysort. They have "Hello Kitty" guitars, double necked but no xplorer. Do you know a music store chain that do carry xplorers?

listen, i have some sick gear, but i gotta say, it' pretty funny if you show up at a gig with a hello kitty guitar, everyone would laugh at you until your big intro where you blow them off there feet. A great player can play any peice of junk and drop jaws, i say go for it! best $200 you'll ever spend, and chicks dig it.

OK. Interesting idea. I expanded my search to other guitars, and then narrowed it down again. I'm eyeballin' the Gibson Firebird Studio (a little out of my price range, but just for kicks), a Gibson LP Studio (that too, is a little expensive, but my dad will help me on buying that one), Fender Highway 1, Gibson LP JR, or just a cheap Squier strat to save money and develope my skillz.

go for a MIM strat for your first guitar...and use the money you would have paid for the much more expensive guitars on a nice amp

Just did. Mexican Standard Fender HSS strat (limited edition with a red finish and an awesome pick-guard and nobs) with a used Fender supersonic tube amp. I'll try to get some pics up. The strat plays nice, looks awesome, and the amp is a BEAST! Nice versitility and options on the amp and guitar. Can't complain at all. Nicest beginner set-up ever. :D
