hey guys, i have an ESP LTD M-50, and as u know its got 2 humbuckers. Ive read that humbuckers are supposed to cut out hum (hence the name), but when i plug my guitar into my amp there's still a hum that can be heard. Is it normal, as in there's always be some kinda noise and no way it can be completely silent? thanks..

I have the same guitar, i think it all depends on your amp settings especially gain and volume. I have a marshall mg15 amp and it hums a little depending on my settings

hey thanks for the reply. yeah i noticed that if i have more gain/volume there's more hum. im using a crate gt15R. so i guess its normal huh.. i was wondering cuz i was under the impression that humbuckers would cut out all noise.. lol

yeh, it's normal, theres ground loop and frequencys and all kinds of complicated stuff going on between the amp and guitar. also cheap amp cords tend to make it worse, poor insulation on the cords. humbuckers will reduce the hum but not eliminate it

Well, that guitar, just like alot of import guitars generally require alot of work to be done to kill the hum.
My most used guitar, the DK2, has ZERO hum.. there is no audible hum at any volume. This is due because, I have completly sheilded the body, used shilded wireing, and eliminated ground loops. This was not the case when it was still "stock".. Buzzed like a madman.
I could post a bunch of random pictures to help you, but wont get into all of that until your sure you even want to attempt anything of that nature.
Let me know.

i think u can buy sumthing that filters that, i heard its all the electricty surronding the pickups...what u can do is move it away from any electrical stuff if u can, that should help

Sheilding the guitar is probably the most effective way to reduce/remove hum.
It's not a difficult job..but it can be time consuming.
There's tutorials all over the internet and several posts here that explain the process. ;)

I eliminated most of my "hum" by buying the more expensive, shielded gold cables. That seemed to help me out, but in your case it might require more work.

hey guys. thank u so much for all ur replies and suggestions. i shall try getting a better cable cuz i think mine is one of those cheap ones. im not confident or experienced enough to attempt what Jesse suggested, maybe not yet at least. once again, thanks and rock on!
