anyone else have one of these monsters? i got one, but am not sure if i like it or not yet. i am using a ibanez rg550 with the v7, v8 and s1 pickups in it. it seems no matter what settings i use on the gnx i always get a common sound out of it. would my pickups always have common sound no matter what i play thru, or should it sound totally different for each setting??

The gnx units from Digitech are VERY POWERFUL and extremly versitile. Try downloading some patches from the net and take note of how the settings are.
Explain more in depth on what your experiancing as "common sound"

no matter what patch im using it still sounds like my guitar. in other words if i download a patch that sounds just like say george lynch on the sample, playing the patch with my gutar sounds like my same old guitar with some more effects.i guess that is what it should sound like. i just hear other people playing alot chearer guitars than mine that sound so much better. a friend of mine has a cheap mexico ibanez (as opposed to my nice jap one)that sounds completly different and better in my opinion on my equipment.

Well, it could be a number of things from the pickups to your playing style. There is alot of variables to take into account when it comes down to it.
Its hard to narrow down what is going on without accually hearing anything from you.. record some stuff, throw it on the net and ill see if i can give you any help.

I have the GNX 3, and I've that my Warlock sounds like my Warlock no matter what I use. It has a really deep, crunchy, sound, and no matter what effects unit I use I have a hard time with false harmonics, and things like the "Dime Screech". It's just the nature of the guitar, with the factory pick-ups installed.

Wait... I though Jstickley was a mod. How did he get banned. What did he do?

I have a GNX1 model and I think there is a program you can get to download settings directly to the board, But I have yet to find it or any settings in general. If you have any luck let me know.

the only program that i know of it the X-edit one that comes with the pedal. mine sounds really good now with the patches from "supermodels" or something like that. it has much better amp and speakers models than the pedal has stock.

It could be the amp you are using as well... I dunno though. I haven't tried it.

Yeah I agree on the amp thing. I remember taking lessons here where I live and couldn't figure out at first how my teacher got his rig to sound so awesome. I later figured out that he had some pedals rigged up to his amp while I was playing totally straight and clean..
ALSO a guy that I play with regularly plays a Les Paul normally through a new hi-tech Fender amp with all sorts of effects and whatnot. The other day at practice for our church he brought in his little Ampeg and didn't run any effects at all. HUGE difference..Although I think that there ARE some characteristics inherent to specific guitars. I started out on a wannabe strat and realized later that I wasn't gonna get a really chunky sound out of it no matter what because of the single coil pickups. I've since switched to an Epiphone Dot (knock off of Lucille) and am still considering going to a LesPaul .......
ANYWAY all that said I hope that my input helps....
