I am new to guitar and found this site. I am thinking of joining to help me learn to play. Anyways. My question has to do with noise. When I play my guitar with with a lot of gain/distortion and with some volume, I hear every little movement I make with my hand on the strings. I guess I can only compare the sound to the scratching sound when you change chords on an acoustic but made a 100X worse on my electric. Is this left hand noise my fault? How do I fix it?

I play a Fender Showmaster HH (Korean)Strat with 2 Seymour Duncan pickups and I have a Fender Deluxe DSP 90 Solid State Amp.

Thanks for the help.

I am not sure if I understand what you mean, but when you play with heavy distortion it is easier to hear that the pick hit the strings. If you listen closely you can even hear this on records (especially old ones, not sure, but studio engineers might remove it today). Can this be what you hear? I am not sure if that noise I'm talking of can be avoided.

I know what you mean I think. Is it like sliding your left hand on the strings and it makes a weeeeerpppp noise? If so, the best way to avoid this (this is just my opinion and I'm kinda new to playing the guitar) is to pull you fingers off the strings a little more. This might take some time to get used to, but just start a little slower and move up the speed again.

Practice palm muting when you're moving your hands during a song.
And if you're moving your hand around and not playing, simply turn your volume down on the guitar.

The palm mute will help muffle the sound of your fingers moving.
It's perfectly normal and will gradually correct itself as you play. We all do it :D

Thanks a lot for your help. I appreciate it. I guess being a newbie my left hand is making a lot of noise. Hopefully with time, it will quiet down.

Thanks again,

Trill.
