Hey guys whats going on, I just wanted to know what your first song ever you guys learned to play, and the first song you attempted to play? The first song I ever learned to play was Paranoid by Black Sabbath, and the first song I ever attempted to play when first starting out was Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple.

My first riff I ever learned was Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water. My first (and only) song I ever COMPLETED was Blackheart's I Love Rock and Roll.
I only play riffs to songs, I couldn't play a complete song if you told me to unless it was I Love Rock and Roll.

The first song I learned to play was 'Tears In Heaven' by Eric Clapton. Beautiful song. I can almost sing along to it too.
Then I tried to learn 'Stairway To Heaven' before realising I wasn't quite that good yet. And I'm still not. Not quite.

Can't remember if it was Bell bottom blues or Can't find my way home both by Eric Clapton. I think it was Can't find my way home as it was what I played for my first recital at the ripe old age of 38. Their only adult student. After that they told me they were flooded with calls from adults of the students and wanted to take lessons with their children. It was a big day for me because I have extreme stage frieght but I'm working on overcoming it that's why I volunteered to perform that day.

Heh. The oldest person by 20 years? That must've been quite daunting. I kinda know the 'stage-fright' feeling myself. How did you do?

Hrmm.. Let me see here. The first song i ever learned, i believe would have to be... Fade to Black. I was about 6 or 7 years old, and it was on regular radio rotation. Keep in mind, i only learned the rythm parts of this and it was until later in life i learned the leads to it also.

Sheepster,
I was nervous as heck playing infront of around 50 people. I had the guitar teacher up front with me to play rhythem when it came time for me to play the solo, he was 22-23. My wife tried to record it but screwed up the camera and missed it:rolleyes: Everyone congatulated me on what a wonderfull performance it was but I never got to see the recording to criticize myself. So I guess it was OK.

Yeah, me too. Wierd. Probably the only song I can sing to while I play. I think the reason is that he changes chords at the exact same time he sings the words, unlike a lot of songs which are a bit off.
Good song to practise on.

I suppose the first bits and bobs i first started to learn when everything was steam powered instead of electricity was the bass line to Another One Bites The Dust, Smoke on the Water and the bass line to War of the Worlds. Oh and my flash mate taught me the begining bits to Dueling Banjos. I stopped playing along with him after that because his natural expertise depressed me.
When it came to strummy picking stuff i'm sure it was House of the Rising Sun and Streets of London. Later on it was the good old classic Stairway to Heaven, which i will have to find the time to learn all the way through some time.

I can't remember for sure, but it must have been a folk song like "Blowin in the Wind" or "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". This is what they taught us in high school. The first rock song was "Rock You Like a Hurricane". I still love to play that song. It is the only song I remember from the first time I tried the guitar in the mid 80's.

I think mine was Adam's Song by Blink 182 or Toxicity by System of a Down.
Anyone else remember how difficult their first song was? :o
Also my first song with a solo was Fade to Black, I ignored all those suggestions of starting with Smells like teen spirit and dived in straight for the big one. Much suffering later I am proud of it :o

I remember the first song i learned back when i was like 13 ....sing it with me now "DUN DUN DUN , DUN DUN , DA DA, DUN DUN DUUUUNNNNN, DA DA" We all came out to montreux
On the lake geneva shoreline.......
and then came "DAAAAA , DAA, DA, DA, DA, DADADADADA, DA DA DAH DAH" Has he lost his mind?, Can he see or is he blind
Can he walk at all? Or if he moves will he fall?
Is he live or dead? I see thoughts within his head.
We'll just pass him there. Why should we even care?
