Hey guys! I recently sold my 10w Marshall practice amp to a friend who's just starting out, and I'm struggling to decide what amp i get next. Im tempted by the Marshall MG15 but its so hard to find any decent reviews or information on other similar amps.

My budget is around £100 GBP, so any thing you can give me around that area would be great! Thanks in advance ot anyone who replies!

Your chance to shine as a good representative for Kustom. I'm looking to move up to a tube amp in the near future, and I have not heard the sounds from a Kustom. With that said, what makes the Kustom a good tube amp, in your opinion, instead of another brand?

Thanks

Honestly powerage..you really need to hear one.
I find the construction is really solid. They have a 3 year warranty.
But the sound...maybe it's just me...but I find it to be really harmonically rich.
Could be the one I tried...but I've heard a couple and they just seem to sing.

Push the 36 Couple a little bit on the lead channel with the volume pinned and the master anywhere from 3 up and you'll know what I mean.

If you get the chance..try one out...and keep this in mind. The EQ actually does stuff. Toy with it a bit. I usually set Bass at about 5, Mids 6 or 7 and Treb 5 or 6.

Let me know if you try one out.

Thanks for the information, I will definitely try one at the music store next visit if they have one. In addition, could you recommend another combo to try, maybe a peavey, randall, or orange? I primarily play hard rock/metal (still new to playing), but want a good clean sound for playing major chords and melodies. Just about the all around amp, but lean towards cranking out the rock/metal tunes/chords.

Thanks again,

I tried out the Orange...sweet amp...way expensive!
I found it a tiny bit muddy but other than that..a really sweet amp.

Not a fan of Peavey personally..they're good amps..just not for me ;)
Tried the randall..but it was solid state and the V3 which is basically solid state. I keep going back to that Coupe....I think I'm hooked?!

The Marshal MG amps are really crap and would not be any noticible upgrade over your practice amp. I had an MG100 for a while and it just sounds too mechanical. Its not a natural resonant sound at all. I guess if you're into extremely hardcore metal it might work out but otherwise forget it.

In that same price range you could consider something like a fender frontman which has decent clean and drive channels for a low end amp. If you can be patient, save and scrap together a bit more dough you could look at a line6 or vox modeling amp.

This is the entry level version of what I play.

I've got an AD120 and LOVE IT. Its just incredible to have virtually every amp style in existance from 1 box ;)

Totally agree on the MG series. Not Marshalls best idea :(

I'd watch the Line6 stuff...my other guitarist has one and hates it. It's very digital sounding. Just my opinion, but they don't seem to have any punch either. His 75 watt SpiderIII can't compete with my 65 watt Kustom. Yes..I'm a Kustom fanatic...I think I might need help

I've heard a lot of that about the spider amps. Folks either seem to love em or hate em. My only experience with them is a buddy who switched to one from a 5150 half stack after he blew out a disk in his back.

Which Orange model did you try, I've heard they are fantastic, but as you mentioned, expensive!

I tried the Thunderverb 1/2 stack.
It's plenty loud and has some good tone...but if you really push the tubes it starts to get muddy.

What are your thoughts about the Krank MicroStack if you have any?
http://www.gearwire.com/krank-20-watt-micro-stack.html

I'm asking relative questions about various amps that I want to test and possibly purchase, but not necessarily have access at the local guitar store or I would be testing there instead of taking up time on here. Therefore, I want to gather feedback on possible units for a possible road trip to test out some amps, for example orange, krank etc.

David, what type of amp do you play/recommend? I already know your guitar of choice (sorry to hear) :p :D

+1 on the Vox. That 15 watter was my first amp and it's a great beginners amp. Great clean tones and it models the crunch pretty well too. I still have mine and use it regularly.

awsome guys, thanks for all your responses!

I have heard a few bad things about the MG sereis myself which is why I needed some opinions lol, my friend had a really expensive fender (im ashamed not to know the name) maybe a fender deluxe (if that excists lol:o )

And it sounded soo soo good, but I remember it cost him about a grand! So i think I might try that fender you suggested, and the Kustoms as well, peeps seem to be split on those here;)

Anywayz I didnt think I'd get so many responses so thanks a lot everyone!!
