I haven't payed yet, not sure if I will. How about you?
I must say though the lessons on youtube are great. David really makes some of the more complex stuff very attainable. I have to add that it's great to have someone sitting there telling you it can be done. That support and enthusiasm set the lessons apart.

not sure also, but around here it's 10bucks a half hour for a lesson.you can learn alot more here in a month than an hour and a half with a teacher.

I think it would be worth it...i mean I have seen how David
explains things in a clear and easy to understand way and
motivating you by saying that you can do it. not many
teachers do that. im thinking that i might get the 1yr
membership, im just wondering if paying member would
be able to download the lessons instead of watching online
everytime saving bandwith for other users.

Downloading them would probably be out of the question since all someone would have to do is download it...post it on youtube or google, then everyone has it.

the course looks very promising and im sure
we'll learn a lot from it and from everyone here

Like uhm...bigger PM box? ( dont know how many it can hold ) and a different colored name? I would enjoy that.

I think it would be great if I could see which lessons are free and which are not before I click on them, maybe a different color would be welcomed.

I noticed that usually only the first video is gree, the other ones require
membership, so like the introduction vdeo for each section is free.
I still think that the best deal is the 1yr membership and
Dave does answer emails, i didnt think he did till i got a few
replies from him.
I still would like to know the contents of the DVD package tho, is
it the same content offered on the site? Anyone knows?
Thanks

The website seems really exhaustive and everything is really well explained. Therefore, I didn't hesitate even one second when I saw that we have to pay to access the videos and I took my credit card. Yesterday, in a couple of hours I learned more than in one month, so (at least for me) yes, it really worth it. I just hope that some new content will regularly arrive.

Some of the most important lessons an instrumentalist learns don't come from the technique- but rather from the environment (inspiration vs perspiration). Every good guitarist knows-or will learn- there is no free lunch. Pay the man for his effort- respect the art or the artists wont respect you.
Hello this is Tim, David and I really dig your passion and support but please keep it clean and ROCK ON
Thanks again

Hmm. Interesting. But anyway.
Look at it this way. You paid (or some one did) for your guitar and amp. Its sitting there looking all pretty. Its an investment that you've made and unless you follow through properly, you'll regret it.
Trust me, I did. I started playing 17 years ago, taught myself some stuff, and I regret every single occasion that I went to someones house for a party or something, they had a guitar there, someone asks "Do you play?" and hands me the guitar and all I do is strum off a few song intro's that I knew but couldn't go farther.
Personally I don't have the time to go to an instructors house or studio regularly. And I doubt they want me there when I do have the time. This way I can have as many late lessons as I want, when I want, and even some personal service.
All investments have a price. Whats being a fluent guitarist worth to you?
Cheers!

Some of the posts on here make me wonder about what the posting is gonna be like on here, I have fairly young children who at times look over my shoulder when I'm surfing the web, are the posts going to be filled with cussing and arguments and utter rudeness that most forums end up becoming, if so I'll bow out of the forum part of the site.
I came here to learn guitar not listen to 12 year olds try out thier new swear words.

I agree. Lets tone it down shall we? In an enviroment like this it's best to keep the comments upbuilding and creative. Rants, while humorous, will only distract and possibly upset others.
Just my opinion, is all. Not like anything I say carries weight...lol.

I stopped posting on the guitar one forum for just that reason. I'm not sure if there are moderators on the forum here or not but they don't have the staffing for they could appoint one from the users that's how most forums do it.
Now to the access fees, I choose to pay for one month at first to see what the site has to offer other than the lessons on youtube plus beeing a new company(site) I didn't want to drop a years fees and they decide it's not working(although I can't see that happening) and wrap it up.
So far I'm pretty impressed with the work they have put into it.

Yes, i think so, it'd be best if we had a few
moderators, and glad that Tim will bring
them. Like they say, this should be a place
that everyone is looking foward to come and
learn, participate with others, i think most of
us here are in the same boat, we all want to
learn from Tim & Dave and i think that we should
repect each other's opinions in order to run a
friendly board, we wanted a great learning
source, we asked for it, we got it, we got

to keep it clean and enjoyable for everyone..

I agree whole-heartedly. I've run forums before and it gets very stressful when you can't be around all the time. Its a hungry beast that you can easily lose control over if it isn't watched.
My moderators hardly ever had to do more than just be around when you can't be to answer questions or maybe offer the occasional "Please keep the language in check."

Hi,
I've been playing guitar for just 3 weeks and viewed numerous online courses, David and Tim's site is by far the best I have come across and earlier today I paid for 1 months subscription with the intention of getting the 1 year deal next month if everything goes ok.
I only get to play at the weekends as I work away for most of the week however I am already knocking out a bit of Greenday and putting together my own very basic tunes, this I find amazing and put it all down to Dave and Tim (thanks guys :D ).
I was a little unsure if the extra content was worth paying for but within 5 minutes I found that it was probably one of the best decisions I have made,
so if your still unsure then just get the 1 month deal and see for yourself.

Keep it in perspective. In Northern Va I was paying 100$ a month for lessons. Each lesson was 30 minutes once a week. 100$ for 2 hours a month. Each lesson turned into a "riff" segment followed by a couple of recommendations. Without a doubt I have learned more from the YouTube videos and the website over this past weekend than I did when taking lessons. So basically I have access to all this info for a year vs. my instructors opinion for a month + change. To each his own but I think its fair.
Blewbyou
January 29th, 2007, 07:20 AM
That is exactly the way I look at it. Lessons for my son and I for a month $120.00 and the site is not much more for a year with info you can access 24/7 as compared to a half hour a week with lesson. Plus you can play it and replay it as many times as needed. Try asking your guitar teacher to play and replay something 100 times until you understand it.

I want to pay for it because it definitely looks worth it but I am one of those broke students at the moment, food and rent basically suck up all the available funds. I just started playing last February. I took my 1st lessons this January. I found their Youtube videos and got hooked. I have learned more from Dave in a the short time that I have seen this site than from a hands on teacher. My lessons cost 80 for 4 lessons( 1/2 hour each). The teacher has been late every time. He can't spend any extra time with me because somone is waiting for their lesson. I think $ 139 per year is worth it.

I am kind of glad someone asked the question. I think it is in line with what I have seen from Tim and Dave. Straight up guys.
Personally, I started learning a year ago (at age 40). I paid for a series of 4 lessons somewhere during that stretch and was completely dissapointed. I am sure if I stumbled on the right teacher I would have a different opinion but the fact is, I dont have the time or money to go around and try teachers until I find that right one. Nor do I really have the time or money to go to regular lessons.
I found Dave and Tims videos on Youtube and have progressed more in a month or so than I have in a year. Its not even close. I mean, I cant wait to get home and pick up my guitar. I am certainly not a great player yet but I am having a blast playing.
I will most certainly be buying a year membership in the next few days. I dont think this site compares to anything else. I see it as a chance to get in on the ground floor of something. I have traded 3 or 4 emails with Dave and I feel like I know him already. I could be wrong but my perception is that these guys have really gone out on a limb to create this thing and I want to support them in their effort so it will stick.
I dont have any issues with anyone who doensnt pay or doesnt want to but for any folks on the fence, keep in mind it is like $11 a month if you buy the year. For a beginner like myself, it is a no brainer in my opinion.

Things to consider:
1. Most guitar teachers have their own idea about what you should learn and they dont ask you what you want to learn and what kind of music you like. Dave's (and Tim's) method is pick what you want to learn, learn at your own pace, and progress to "The Next Level".
2.Most guitar teachers want you to pay them 20-30 bucks for half an hour four times a month, and the same amount of money will get you A MONTH'S subscription to detailed break-downs of lessons that you can pick and choose for yourself. These include lessons on theory, lead (soloing) impro and just plain "this is how you play this song", for the beginners like me.
3. David or Tim are available to answer your questions via email. Try calling a guitar teacher on his cell phone and asking him "How do i pick that part of that song that is 6 bars in the chorus?" and their response will probably be "We 'll talk about it next lesson, it's hard to talk about this over the phone" or something in that area.
4. The site is updated and new videos are being posted with incredible speed so, while you are trying to learn one song, two or three more have been posted within a weeks time.
5.You can watch the lesson over and over and over again, and if you can't figure it out there is also this forum, where you can ask others about it.WE ARE A COMMUNITY CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE PEOPLE?
If you have any doubts about what i am saying try to learn how to play yourselves and the try to find a teacher to help you. EVENTUALLY you will end up back here.

C'mon guys $139 per year is a steal. I'll prove it.
**Lets assume you take a half hour lesson once a week with an instructor that's 26 hours per year of instruction (52 weeks * .5 hours per week).
**Now lets take the total cost of Dave's yearly package ($139) and divide that by the 26 hours from above. That comes out to about $5.35 an hour.
**Now you honestly tell me where you can find a guitar instructor charging 5 bux an hour.... This doesn't even take the great customer service, personalized emails, song requests into account.
Support the site and do the year.... you know you want to...

I didn't mull it over long after seeing the 1st video on YouTube. Dave's style of teaching is GREAT! The price is a steal, to say the least. As a 47 year old husband and father WITH a full time job and other resposibilities, I just don't have the time for regular lessons. Besides, lessons in my area are $60 a month. Now, with video lessons I can stop, pause and repeat at will. Some lessons I can blow through quickly and some take some time to perfect. I've taken lessons before from a gifted musician. BUT, they were boring, tedious, sometimes too long between lessons and sometimes too short. And, it never seemed to be fun. Dave's lessons, on the other hand, not only makes it fun but I'm learning so much more, much faster!
A year's access for the same cost of 2 months of lessons???
NO CONTEST!
Thanks Dave! You're a great teacher!

I agree Dave and Tim have done an awsome job and I really like thier style of teaching. Thier style of teaching is the same as the guy I go to. my complaint with my teacher is the next day when I wake up it's hard to remember what I did the night before mm sound like a good plot for a movie :). the great thing with the web site is I could fire it up and it's all there the next day. Now I just have to convince my wife to pony up for a year subscription, and you right $139 isn't alot of money for the convenice of your lessions being one touch away. now all i need is an online spell checker

I still don't understand why you'd want the month to count towards the full year though. Now, you're paying for a month, and then paying for 11 months. But before, you'd pay for a month, and then pay for 12 months. There's no real difference...

Allow me to clarify.
Before this offer, if you purchased 1 month, and then the year, you paid $29.00 plus $139.00. Thats one month at $29.00 and 12 months at $11.58 per month.
Now if you buy the first month, then upgrade to the year, you only pay the $139.00. The $29.00 is credited back to you.

February 9th, 2007, 12:22 PM

Great Idea about putting the month subscription towards the year. I will definitely be upgrading soon.

The videos I've seen though for songs are awesome and I'd love to start going through all the lesson videos. I seem to make the quickest progress with the videos.
The one thing I find a little humorous is the "Acoustic or Electric, Which do I choose?" and "What type of guitar should I get?" are only for members, but most people who will sign up for membership already have a guitar (or more).

Well I got my taxes back on the 9th and signed up on the 10th and been going through the video lessons and even though I don’t consider myself a beginner
I started form lesson # 1 skipping through most of it but, mainly to get a sense of Dave’s methodology or if he refers to an earlier lesson I’ll know what he’s talking about.
So far I have found the membership to be worth every penny and very affordable, and the ability to watch and practice anytime day or night definitely makes it worth the money.

Hehe. The way my job is, I'll be lucky to have all of my limbs and any sight at all when I'm 51. As it is i'm on leave for nearly rupturing a disk in my spine. Fun fun.

Hmm,
The way I see it is this: Those videos Dave & Tim put together on youtube didn't just make themselves. I think that these days, we start to get used to getting things for free on the internet, but if we expect to have high quality (which we most definitely do here), then we are going to have to pay up. Dave & Tim have to pay the bills like the rest of us. I'm going for the 1 monther to start (because I'm trying to pay for my house to be renovated), but I have no qualms at all in fronting up the cash for the lessons. The guys are just so enthusiastic, and break it all down into manageable chunks.
Some of the moderators on the forum seem a bit dodgy though :)

I love this humorous, almost-catty rapport going on between Blewbyou and Whiskey. I'd pay the subscription fees for that alone.
We need a new poll. Are you a subtle, naughty-but-nice Blewbyouian? Or are you a more cutting, to-the-point Whiskeyite? :)
At the moment, I'm undecided, and long may it stay that way.

Is there any kind of logo or tag associated to paying members. It wouldn't matter who's paying or not; what would be nice to know is who's going thru the same lessons and instruction that you are. It may be a better way to get a feel of where someone is coming from with a thought or explanation of why this way or that way. Ya know, Common thought kinda thing. Or maybe I've watched to much star-trek and am trying to convert you all in to mindless Borgs to do my bidding!! Muhuhuhahaha....

The content on the site is valuable to me. It is great instruction that fits my schedule and is much cheaper than private lessons. I have already spent several times the cost of a one year's subscription in equipment but of what use is the equipment if i don't invest in learning to use it?
For the tire kickers out there who may be on the fence I suggest you buy a month's membership. if you don't like it don't renew for a year... but I bet you will!

I'm just waiting on the cash to become available - any day now, joining this site to advance my playing is a no-brainer. I've done ALLOT of research on the subject of learning online and This is It!
Anyone one can teach you most of what's being taught, it all depends on the teacher to transmit that skill to the beginner, imho, David is the guy with that skill.

I signed up yesterday, I have looked at a ton of stuff online and have bought more than I would like to admit. This course is for sure one of the better ones out there. Also new stuff is being added weekly, stuff that is not on youtube. As far as I can tell the DVD set is most of what is on the web site, minus the new stuff that gets added regularly. If you look at local lessons price per half hour, and think about how productive that half hour is, and the fact that you have to plan your time around getting to your lesson etc... this set up is great. Its true that there are lots of free things on the net and some learn guitar pay websites, most of the ones that have this kind of information cost about 30 a month or more, I have seen some learn at home courses that cost you 300 bucks for a 5 dvd set (with some printouts) so compaired to what is out there, this is really reasonable, also David and TIm do respond to your questions or problems, the lessons are laid out in a very logical order to push your progress. Hopefully David will be sucessful with this, and make himself some bucks. There is no free lunch and good things cost. If you think about the hours and work that goes in to doing this and the quality of teaching you get, then 12 bucks a month is really a great deal. THe music store near me charges $55 for 4 half hour lessons (which from what I understand is real cheap compaired to most areas) ALso I can go back and review anytime I want. I can't do that with a once a week teacher. And I also wake up at 4 am every day, its hard to find a teacher that wants to teach at that time. I get an hour or so of solid instruction everymorning before I go to work. Its a great deal for me.

i love this site. I like his way of teaching i have no complaints. but for a college student i think 30 bucks a month is pretty expensive. I have an account at another site like this and its only 5.95 for 3 months, but its not nearly as good. So i guess the quality is worth the price, maybe one day when i get out of college i will be able to afford it

Does anyone think having more Full Songs in the video section would help in making the decision? Or maybe having a Full Song Video Lesson section available only to paying members.

seriously, people......if anyone can find an instructor as good as dave , who is available 24/7 and will let you videotape or be willing to go over everything as many times as you need to learn it and teach you songs as well for under $0.40 a day, yeh break it down, a yr membership comes out to a whoppin 40 cents a day.....
so if you can find an instructor for 40 cents a day , post their name and number cause it ain't gonna happen...but book em for at least a year before ya do cause they are gonna get reallllly busy in a hurry
and if you're in college, skip one 6 pack a week or a couple days of hitting up the fast food dollar menu and you have your membership...., it's cheaper than freakin ramen, even college kids can afford ramen, been there done that :D
the membership price is totally fair, anyone who has ever dealt with running a website will tell you it's alot of time and effort just to keep on top of the updates let alone the tech issues that go along with it.
These guys work hard to keep the site up and running with fresh content. If you can't afford it thats totally understandable but i did see a post saying "knowing this was going to be a paid membership site from the beginning" and i have to say that one irritated me , as if by posting the videos on you tube they were somehow misleading everyone. I mean, come on, really...would you start a business, advertise it by giving out some free samples and then just give everything away for free? what would be the point of all your work? everyone needs to make a living. They offer a great service at a fair price so pay them what they're worth , end of story

the site you mentioned isn't bad and he seems to be pretty good. I've searched the net for the past year or so on guitar instruction, most of what you need is out there for free but there's little bits everywhere with no structure.
That's what's different here - the structure. If you want to learn step by step the right way, this is the place to do it.

If you pay for it get a year membership. Its by far the best deal. If one month is 30 and a year is 130 its a heck of a deal. How much stuff do we just take for free off the net. Give back once in a while. Just my 2 cents. I figure after a year I should have all the pay required info pretty much down. It really seems to be a great spot to get info
