Sorry for all these posts, just kinda tryin' to learn as much as possible and lookin' at different sites online its hard to tell whats right and whats wrong. I have an epiphone les paul standard and was wondering what the string height should be.

The last time I changed strings I took all the strings off to clean the fret board and was wondering if this would effect anything when I put new ones back on. (Neck warping, etc.) I've heard that it hurts the neck to take off all the strings at once and I've heard your supposed to. Really confused on that one.

The strings seem to be alot further from the frets down at the like 15 fret than they do at the 1st. Is this normal?

Any help would be great.

Well theres alot that can be *wrong* or alot that can be *right*

Is your neck straight? Is it bending up or down? Did you replace the strings with the same gauge as before? Typically if you go up in gauge, ie. from 8's to 9's, there is more pull on the neck, meaning, you will have to readjust the truss rod to get the maximum out of the guitar.

String hieight should be able the same across the board, ALTHOUGH, there is a slight difference from the first to the last fret. There really isnt a "specific" mesurement, although the manufacture will reccomend a specification. They are different for all guitars.

The main things are, is your intonation set properly and is your neck set properly.

i used the same gauge strings and i know the intonation hasnt been messed with as far as like the saddle is concerned since I bought it. I know there are many other things that can cause this but ya. basically all I've done since I got it is changed strings. And played it of course and just noticed the strings were higher off the higher frets than the lowers and then was wondering about takin all the strings off at once and if that could have affected it if its wrong.

At about the 15 fret down its about 3/16" from the bottom of the string to the fret. I guess what I'm askin is, is this too much for any guitar? I mean it stays in tune fine and everything and ya. I'm kinda gettin lost from what I was first askin' I guess lol.

Here is an excellent website on how to properly set up a guitar, including string height (its step 4 out of the 6 steps)

you can also go to the manufacture of your guitar on the web, most of them will have tech info with the string clearances and stuff like that.

High enough that they do not buzz and low enough that they are comfortable to finger the strings. LOL if they are too high or to low you end up giving the finger to the guitar.
And yes the strings do get higher towards the bridge because the string transients are greater in the middle of the string.
