Schecter's I heard are awesome guitars for resonable prices.
If you in Sabbath get a Laney as thats what Tonni Iomi uses. Or a Marshall or an Orange to get a British sound.
But how much are you willing to spend on an amp?
If not on a high budget try a Roland Cube or a Vox Valvetronix As I heard their monsters for the price.

I dont know where Pekker heard about Schecter guitars being good. Everyone I know that owns or has played one thinks they suck. Im not a fan. You should get an Ibanez for the same price as whatever you will be paying. Ibanez guitars are great for metal or if you know how to adjust amp/guitar settings can be great for classic and modern rock.

Mark Knopfler, Eddie Vedder, Pete Townshend and Robert DeLeo seemed to like them. Depends on what you prefer.

I guess I prefer a decent guitar with a decent sound. ;) cant say I like any of the people you mentioned. Although I do like the song Wierd Al wrote about Eddie Veder.

Plus lets be honest... I bet these guys didnt use Schecter until they got endorsement deals. Then I bet they had tons of custom made Schecter guitars. I doubt they bought the same crappy guitars you and I can afford. They wouldnt even think twice about playing the over the counter ones.

Thats not a very valid argument. You can buy Ibanez, Stratocasters, SG's, Gretsch, etc... all with cheap pickups and hardware. That doesn't make the guitar bad, it means you simply went cheap. I can go into my local guitar shop and buy a $250 Strat or a $1200 Strat.

Personally, while I know Ibanez are fantastic guitars, I have never liked the ones I have played. Does it mean they're bad. Nope. Could I get a better one if I paid more? Sure. You'll always get what you pay for.

Actually Schecter was a Fender Custom shop and make fantastic guitars for their price. Check their ratings out on harmony central or musicians friend or anywhere you like. Grover tuners, seymore duncans, and EMG all make in into their midrange and up guitars. Most of the people you mention did have their guitars custom by Schecter, and now Schecter sells them to everyone.

angelicrock,
That's one opinion and it's yours that's fine. Now I will give mine.
I own a Schecter C-1+ and love it. It is so easy to play and has great tone and sound and looks very classy. I don't care for Steve Vai but doesn't mean I don't like Ibanez. In fact I've never even played one. Oh yeah you said everyony you know that owns one think they suck, Have you ever played one? If I told you that Ibanez suck without you playing one would you then be spouting that ibanez sucks?

Ive played many. Never played one with a decent tone. Granted I have only played the cheap over the counter ones they sell at my local Guitar Center. I have a lot of friends that own and play different guitars. Its a generally agreed upon by us that none of the Schecter guitars we have played sound good. I hope I dont offend you by stating I dont like them. I just think for the price you can buy a higher quality better sounding guitar. Dont limit what I say to Ibanez, you can find guitars from BC Rich, Fender, Gibson all for around the same price as some of the low cost Schecters. You will also get a much better tonal quality.

Just my opinion having played many guitars and owning quite a few myself. Id suggest playing any brand guitar for yourself before thinking about purchasing it. Like Blew, you may like the Schecters. Some people have different tastes in tone and sound. Look at Rage Against the Machine... I hated their sound but many other people loved it.

Heh. I know the feeling. My best friend has a thousand dollar Godin and I absolutly hate the thing. I can't play it for more than a minute, it just feels all wrong... I know its a great guitar and all but... not for me. Don't like the sound either.
