Hi chaps and chapess's

I like the sound a metal pick generates, but unfortunately as I have fingers like a blind cobbler, they are too thin and don't feel right.
A UK mag had a ad recently for a thick plastic pick with a wire tip. Has anyone out there got any experience with them, do they sound like a solid metal pick or are they just a compromise.

I don't use metal picks, but on ocasion, I use a quarter. Quarters are thick, so they don't slip too much, and they give you a Deep Purple sound.

Spacetrucker old bean

What are the dimensions of a quarter, and I will see if the UK has an equivalent size coin, do you file it or prep it in any way.

a quarter is about an inch across (22 mm) and...about 1 mm in depth

Brian May from Queen uses a sixpence. Might be good thing to try.
