Hello,

My question is, how do develop my ear?

My ear is terrible atm and i would like to develop it abit

All i know at the moment is all the strings...

But i would like to be able to be able to play songs off the radio just by my ear (my ultimate goal for guitar) in like 10 years...

So i was wondering if there is anyway to speed it up with exercises or does it just naturally come over time?

BTW thanks in advance

yeah i want to get to the same level, but what i have found that helps me is to go though all the tabs of songs, and play each one, because no tab is usually dead on, so doing that and listening you can slowly put together the song, but i would like to do the tab by ear too.

I think it's a great question. Wish I had a real answer for you because I bet there is something one can do to train their ear.

If this helps I'll relate my own experience. It used to bother me a lot when I began playing that my ear wasn't nearly as developed as other players. But over the last year and a half I've noticed that it seems to have come along all on its own. For instance, a year ago I would play a song I thought was correct, but a year later when I listen again and visualize how I played it I know that it wasn't exactly correct. In other words I hear songs differently today than I used to.

Another example for me is a few weeks back I was noodling in a Drop D tuning. I've always used a tuner to change around or get in tune, etc. But I dunno, I was noodling and up and decided to go back to a standard tune and reached up and started turning the tuning peg and checking my tune by holding the 6th string on the 5th fret and checking it against the 5th string.

I wasn't even thinking when I did that. When I realized what I had done, I pulled out my tuner and checked. And damn if I wasn't in tune! I sat there amazed and thought "man!... my ear is really coming along".

For me, my ear developed over time. And it's still developing too.
