Hi all,

David pm'd me to say my posts make him laugh, I expect he will get a lot of amusement from this one too...

After practicing furiously for most of the day on Saturday 03/02/07 and also buyining a new guitar half way through the day, a friend of mine came to my house to give me a lift to his place for yet more practice, (we usualy practice to around 6 am at his place most saturdays).

This freind has a big landrover with aluminium check plate panels and looks like an armoured vehicle, he arrived at my house at around 22:15 and told me he was parked in the middle of the road so I asked him to drive down to the corner while I got my gear together. I grabbed my guitar and met him on the corner, we then headed to his place.

After about 5 minutes of driving we where pulled over by a police van and 4 or 5 other police vehicles, arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and taken to the police station :(

I was then tested for drugs (all negative) and locked in a cell until 15:30 the following afternoon before being allowed access to a solicitor (lawyer), interviewed (with a solicitor present), put back in a cell and finally released around 17:00 on sunday 04/02/07 on bail to reappear at the police station on friday at 09:30 am.

Apparently the police had a call regarding two men acting suspiciously in a landrover with a suspicious package (presumeably they thought my new yamaha was an ak-47 or something).

I fully intend to make a complaint to the police and write to my local newspaper so I will post the story and related police documents here at a later date. Being denied access to legal advice for 17 hours is illegal here in the u.k (unless you're a terrorist) so I am not a happy chappie to say the least.
But then I guess maybe I should just be glad they never shot me!!
I know my playing is not great but 19 hours in a cell is a bit much I think

Any how If it makes some of you guys laugh then at least some good has come of it, I used this forum as part of my alibi as i had made a post shortly before leaving the house so theres something else I have to thank David and Tim for :)

Will keep you updated..

There's gotta be a song in there somewhere eh, just need to learn to play first!

Just to add I am not a career criminal or anything and have not been arrested in all my 33 years.

Holy crap... where was that? I didn't think they were allowed to lock people up without questioning them. Surely they'd have seen it was a big misunderstanding? What was the interview like?

You're right. There definately has to be a song in that story. Maybe a slow bluesy prison song...

That is messed up. Ive had a simalar situation, only, i didnt get "arrested" perse.. Took some magic stuff to the airport to catch a flight to cali, was stopped at one of the security check points. I had a cigarette dropper pinned inside of my jacket, and for some strange reason, they thought it was some kind "explosive", which clearly it wasnt.

27 hours later, a missed flight and a severly aggrivated me, they released me, and reimbursted me the cost of the ticket, although they didnt do anything about the show i missed, or my reputation :(

Woow. that is some serious accussasion but kinda funny
tho, im sure it wasnt funny at that time but i think they should
have searched and if they found nothing they should have let
you go without having to take you to jail if they found no guns
or anything compromising like that. I think you should sue
the police dept. and the person who called.

Let me tell you! My father of all people had me locked up, my father was a musician, I guarantee everyone in this forum has heard of him. Well he used to let me stay at his house while he was one the road, I had just turned 16 when he and some other guys came in and said we had stolen money out of a sock draw like 100,000 dollars, well I had a key so they arrested me and my whole band for keyed burgular or some crap! My father was so wasted he had no clue who we were! Needless to say the money never existed, I spent 6 months in juvenille detention. Thanks Dad, God rest his soul! Yeah! I was drummer and I think all musicians go to jail, for stupid reasons, been a couple more times after that also. Maybe talent less people are jealous!

Yes. It's absolutely true. Referenced from the FBI National Crime Stat website: 100% of guitar players, 77% of bongo accompanists and 84% of triangle players will spend at least one day in jail sometime in their life. It's a fact.

yeah... arrests aren't fun are they.

I was arrested about 6 months ago for stealing, when I didn't. I had no proof that I didn't, they had no proof that I did, but I still was found guilty. How's about that one?
