Well you cant get that sound without 26 pedals... how many john has that is. Anywho, yeah, the spider III 75 is amazing, so is the 120.
check it out, play it, buy it... thats my advice. I love the options you get with it. My only problem is the clean channel, it isn't great, but it does the job. It's okay though, to mimik john you put it on the crunch setting

I have the SPider II not the III and i'm sure it's close to the same. Mine is 75 watts and i love it and i can get a nice RHCP sound on many songs...Of course it's not exact but it's real close and they are really fun to play around with.

I have this amp and IMO I think it's a fun amp. My son (18 yo) likes mostly
00's rock & metal. He really likes this amp because of the "metal" & "insane" distortion channels. Echo, reverb, trembelo, chorus flanger, phaser all fun sounds to play with but gets very little use from either of us.
I have to admit I wasn't happy with just this amp because of the warm tone the tube amps have. I like 70's & 80's rock. So I also bought a Marshall DSL401 (tube amp) & a Fender Pro Junior (tube amp)
The Marshall DSL 401 matches the music era I like best. High Mids, dark tones, a clean & 2 overdrives.
The Fender Pro Junior has bright cleans and we use a guv'nor distortion pedal with it because it has very little features.
IMO the spider is a good sounding amp however there is better tone to be had in tube amps.
Hope this is a help.

Is it just me or does the clean channel seem to have a lot of bass in the low e and a srtings. I can't seem to be able to work out a really good clean setting.

Kick up the treb a little bit more and take down some bass and push the mid up a little bit more. That seems to help me.

I have a Line 6 Spider III 150 watt and have nothing but good things to say about it. The presets are fun, but you have pretty complete control over the sound--I adjust the presets I like to my own taste.
I would note that this is my 2nd Line 6--the first one had some bizarre electronics issue that would cause it to fuzz and fade out after a few minutes of playing. I returned it, and the new one is just fine.
