O.K. Well my acoustic guitar is pretty old (it was my mom's) and I thought it would be good once I'm skilled enough to get my own. I'm left-handed and my current is righty, is another problem. I really have no idea who makes good guitars for a cheap price (under $500). I don't want anything too fancy just one to get me by. Maybe one with an amp jack, and definitely left handed. I doubt many of you out there are lefties, but I would like your opinions on which guitar I should buy that's cheap, left-handed, and would be easy to play, and just an all around good looking and sounding guitar.

I am a lefty but play right handed as do lots of leftys. I guess the guitar to get would depend on if you were looking at an electric or an accoustic. I don't know why you think you need to switch to a left handed guitar. If you have been playing right handed and making progress, I would suggest finding someone with a left handed guitar or go to a music store and try one several times before going out and just buying one.
also guitarplayer magazine just came out with their list of the best guitars for under $500 bucks, it might be a good place to start looking.
Washburn makes some good accoustics, you will probably have to pay more for a left handed guitar than a right handed one

Actually when I first picked up a guitar, I played lefty because I didn't know any better. It was a right handed guitar. And yes, I am looking for acoustics. Thanks for the info, too.

You can always pull a Jimi Hendrix and play lefty on right-handed guitars.

I personally would not go with one of those little travel guitars, they are ok, for goofing around on and taking camping, but their tone is lacking, their action is poor, and just becasue its made by Martin does not mean anything, There are serveral companies that are making them I have played on a couple of them and was not that impressed. Also the shape of that guitar makes it kinda uncomfortable to hold and strum. If you already had a decent guitar and just wanted one of those to goof off with, I guess they are ok.

Takamine is a great acoustic/electric guitar..right around the price range you stated..very good sound and very easily band worthy..in fact if you look at the acoustic guitars that a lot of the country musicians are playing today you will see that they are using the Takamine. hope I spelled the name correctly.

Takamine from my contact with them are wonderful. My girlfriends best friend has an acoustic and every time I play it it feels like luxury, like driving a Cadillac. So responsive and beautiful tone. She paid around 400 bucks for it. Unless I find an offer I can't refuse on some other brand, my next acoustic will be a Takamine.

I went to the guitar store last week and pretty much played every acoustic in the room. Besides the obvious choices .. $3000 Gibsons and such ... the best one I played by far was a Takamine 12-string. I played a few chords on it and my wife spun right around. It was awesome. I went back and played it another 3 times... might buy it. Only $700.
