Maybe it's just me - lol. But do you ever find yourself telling yourself off for not doing good enough? For instance i was just having a little play of 'Nothing Else Matters' - a tune i have played countless times before - and for some reason my fingers were fumbling over every chord. Normally i play it without really thinking about it, but today i just can't play the thing. The more i concentrated the worse i got, i stopped playing when i realised i had started actually cursing myself and telling myself off.

Makes me wonder how often i do this without noticing and whether anyone else does it as well :D

happens to the best of us....i usually find myself throwing my pick across the room only to stand up and walk over to it and try the song again.

Well John first of all hello....You might know this you might
not , many guitar players I would hope agree with me. Anytime
since ive been playing...if I had the notes and structure in
my head but just couldnt seem to nail it right , I would leave
it ....go play something else...came back in a couple of days
and to my suprise....nail it np....this has happened to me and
other guitar players I know many times....in fact , there have
been rough times throughout the years where I have had to
sell my gear , and go 6 months or so without playing anything
but an accoustic....only to find out when i bought that new
les paul I was flying up and down the fretboard playing everything
that had me aggrivated....just a suggestion. Cheers.

I yell at myself all the time. Mainly for thinking about other stuff while I'm trying to play.

yep that happens... I rarely think about something else when practicing songs but I must force myself to concentrate when warming up or learning scales :)
And sometimes I scream out when trying to buil up strength or agility and my fingers hurt bad :)

I don't yell at myself, i usually just get depressed, wallow in my misery, then i take a 10-15 minute break, listen to something completely different from what i am trying to play and then i eat some chocolate. Thats when the sugar rush kicks in and ITS PUNCH-UP TIME!

Sometimes i can get obsessed about a particular lick and play until i get it right, even if that takes me into the morning. Once i learn the lick however, i don't finish the song...

Thanks everyone for letting me know i'm no the only one to do this kind of thing. I asked my girl today if she has ever heard me do it and apparently i do it quiet often, but mainly only when i am been super critical of myself.

Just as well i'm not in a band playing rythm and backing vocals. I would sound and look like a mad geezer with turettes (probably wrongly spelled)

Robert - I know what you mean if you leave it alone for a week or two and then come back to it and it just seems to flow with no problems. But when it comes to a song that you know fine well you could play it while hanging upside down in a tree it's really frustrating.
