i know its not connected to nlg *really* but my band had a performance tonight and i recorded it on my camcorder. i went out and bought a firewire chord and installed the driver but the back of my computer has no firewire card. (its a tape camcorder and a.. 1999 or 2000 computer) card, chord, camera? that all?

Saying "or some crap" won't help people. What did the message say and what brand is the camera and so?

Sharp Viewcam Z VL-Z3U "Mini DV (Digital Video Cassette NTSC)

just read off the side of the box

and theres no message, the firewire chord that i just bought doesnt fit in the back of my computer.. i went to the electronic store and asked them what i had to buy to make my videos on the computer. the camera came with a USB plug and i installed the driver but i believe that it's only for photos and not video

I feel you might be fighting a losing battle with your pc setup

Look into getting a mac

with imovie and garageband you can do unbelievable stuff

Alot of time people upgrade older pc's with a video card then they find out they need more memory hard drive space software and then learn the program which is a pain in the AXXX on a pc

Get a mac mini $599 maby less on ebay or used and you can plug in most pc monitors

With i movie it is plug and play with most camcorders and it is easy to use
The software ROCKS imovie & garage band

ROCK ON

haha you remind me of my best friend. hes a die-hard mac fan "suddenly" and so he keeps trying to talk me out of pc's. mac's are definitely appealing and ill probably be getting one next year for college, but in the meantime it would be great if i could upload my vids (for the contests, youtube scrutiny, etc..)
you guys are doing great work here, rock on.

i'm not really understanding what you have with your computer...but a 99/00 pc or mac for that matter is kinda dated for use with a dv camera...what version of windows are you using on that 98?..or did you upgrade?...if you have ME tie a rope to it and use it as an anchor..lol...i'm also guessing that your usb ports on that machine are probably the original usb and not usb2 ...you can buy a A/V box for that pc ...i'm sure that your camera as RCA outputs on it somewhere...the box will allow you to connect your camera with the RCA jacks to the box then into the pc through a usb port(make sure you buy a box with the right usb port)...best buys, curcuit city, walmart all sell those boxes...you will need a home editor to capture and edit with...but you should be able to make it work. If you didn't upgrade your ram and h/d on that old machine you will have a whole other set of problems..a general rule is 3 minutes of raw video = 1 gig of hard drive space....new machines both pc and mac are geared for the newer technology...they are set-up for home users to be active with videos...so if you get the old one to work ...you'll love the new one...

LOL
mitch, my friend, its not ancient :p
its been on Xp since the day xp came out, and i upgraded the ram to 624 a few years ago. i know its outdated now but i stopped playing video games on my computer and i dont need it for much anymore.. (aim, NLG :])
i plugged the USB plug that came with the camera and supposedly thats only for uploading photos from your camcorder (you can take still shots with my cam)

im just going to take it to my friends house and he can hook it up. be expecting our bands videos soon haha..

lol..sorry bout that...one of my pc's is a 99/00 and i call it the "Dinosaur"...it was one of the old IBM's offered before they left the consumer market...but i do have to say...it runs my plotter/cutter machine better than my newer ones...and it's a tank!!!!...none of my editing machines captures from a USB..so i'm not familiar why yours is only for pics, unless you don't have an editing program to do video capture?
