I currently have Boss ME-30 multiple effects system. It has quite a few effects in it but I find it isn't very user friendly. It has no backlight so the LCD display is nearly impossible to read in bad light. And its all digital so you can't change settings in the individual effects quickly. I would like to get the similar model that has knobs instead. Easy to see and change.

My favourate effects are the heavy metal compression and distortion for my Angus Young stuff, the wah peddal effect for my Weezer stuff and the U2 echo for those Edge songs. This effect also works great with distortion when doing Slash's intro to Welcome To The Jungle!

I have a Digitech RP250 and it's awesome. Its a multieffect pedal with a bunch of settings. You have whammy, wah, ya-ya, tremolo, echo and phaser. You can have your guitar sound like a clean acoustic to a heavy metal sound. It has a drum machine and a metrnome built in. You can also make your own settings. I probably didnt list everything it has so go look it up on google maybe.
Usually the cost 149.99 on the internet, I forgot what it was at the store in my town

Take your new RP to a weekend jam and drop some jaws. The RP250 is dripping with tone that has to heard to be believed. Tone that deserves to be heard on stage and in the studio. But even if your new RP guitar modeling processor never leaves your practice room, you?ll never run out of creative ways to use it.

With 400% more horsepower, no wonder the RP150 sounds so good. You?re looking at the world?s most advanced audio processor, the?engine? that gives the new RP models so much more raw impact and subtle detail. Other manufacturers use general- purpose, off-the-shelf chips. But creating the best guitar tone requires a 100% specialized, optimized processor.

Being total audio processing fanatics, DigiTech's ?Chip Wizard? engineers set out to create a super-processor specifically designed to power a whole new generation of effects and models. The design team worked for over 2 years, literally re-defining audio signal processing at the chip level. Then their ?Tone Guru? engineers -- fresh from Production Modeling triumphs like the Jimi Hendrix Experience Artist Series pedal -- set to work taking adavantage of all this new raw processing power.

When you hear what AudioDNA2 does for the tone of the RP250 you?ll agree it was all worth it.

The RP250 is ready to talk to your PC or Mac computer: it has a built-in 24-bit 2-in/2-out USB interface. Lay down tracks with your favorite multitrack DAW software. Play back a mix or MP3 cut directly through your RP250 and jam along with it. Download a free copy of X-Edit Editor/Librarian fromDigiTech's website and customize presets, upload and download new tones, including those from magazine web sites and their own thriving online player community.

I've got a few, always want more though. :D

Visual Sound H2o - Its a delay and chorus in one.
MJM Foxey Fuzz - its a clone of the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff
Protone Pipe Dreamer - subtle overdrive pedal.
Moogerfooger Ring Mod - great for tremolo sounds and spaceship landing craziness.
Digitech Synth Wah - kinda shitty little synth pedal.
Teese Wizard Wah - its a wah, its red.
Subdecay Quasar - a great little analog phaser pedal.

Matt - what kinds of sounds are you shooting for?

The single peddles and effects are nice since you can get a different effect depending on which order they are in on the way to the amp. For instance, having distortion before the Wah peddle sounds different than the Wah before distortion.

I've got a couple of the Dano Fab series, cheap but fun to play with. Since I got this though, I don't mess with the single pedals too much

Like the other multi boxes there's a lot going on here. It's easy to burn time just messing with the tones and not really practicing anything. I also just picked up a Rocktron Black Cat Wah with some Christmas money. I've still got to figure that thing out as it has multiple wah options as well as an overdrive/moan effect.

I am a very loyal user of Boss/Roland products. Right now, i am currently using a Boss GT-8 effects processor. Its one of those, packs small, plays huge items, that can be had, for an affordable price for what it does. The cool thing with these is, just like separate pedals, you can choose the order in which things happen. ie.. if you want distortion to come before the delay, you can have it that way. Great pedal, very user friendly, a TON of options.

Can be had for around 400 bucks, and it is money well spent.

My first effects processor was a Digitech FX7. This little guy, for its time, ROCKED. ive seen these go on ebay for about 40 bucks. Kinda tricky to learn how to set everything up, but once you got it, its a walk in the park.

I have a Line 6 PodPro which has more effects than I think I could ever use.

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/oct00/images/podpro1.gif

My amp a Marshall half stack mg100hdfx also has several built in effect settings.

http://www.marshallamps.com/images/product_overview/mg100hdfxfeature.jpg

I also have a Dunlop Crybaby

http://cachepe.zzounds.com/media/fit,400by400/quality,85/brand,zzounds/Crybaby2web-00cdea49c29aabbd2a4c2c69a46b17e3.jpg

To tell you the truth I rarely use effects very much except when trying some Hendrix I will plug in the Crybaby.

When I am learning a song or practicing a new piece I use just the guitar and amp. Effects just muddy things up when I am trying to work on something.

I do have a blast when I am just playing for fun and trying out effects but I don't think they are necessary for learning to be a good player.

The gear/effects I love using are a BEHRINGER Ultra Metal Distortion pedal, and on those laid back days I trade in my guitar for my Bass and plug that into a Bass Overdrive Distortion Pedal, I picked mine up for $30.99. My Weapon of Choice is an Epiphone SG.(I dont have any pics of my axe at this moment so I'll use a pic from the internet) and to make it all posible I use a fender frontman for my amp.

I use a Zakk Wylde Wah, as you just have to have a wah pedal. As far as others go, The only effect I use is gain. I personally don't like dealing with pedals.
As far as distortion pedals, don't bother with them.
Distortion should be drived from your amp and not 'faked', while they are fun to mess with, a good tube amp (or a Randall solid state) is the best way to go.
An overdrive is fine, I like the Ibanez Tube screamer.

Guys I've used multi effects and single effects. I prefer old school. When I hook up my pedal board If one effect goes on the blink I can just xhange it, or if I have to I can just leave it out of the loop and I don't loose my other effects. In the 40 something years I've been playing I've seen good guitarist ruin good music with to much effect. Even over doing reverb or echo can kill a song. I don't carry many effects but I do use a Line Six Echo Park, a Vox wah, Good distortion pedal, and a tube over drive. I want say who is best because they don't pay me. There are a lot of good companies out there and personally I don't see much difference. It's all in how the user sets them up. Keep jaming

I use a simple Digitech RP50 (80 built-in effects, 40 of which are editable in so many ways), but if I could I would get several single units for the flexibility. However for the price it has served me unparalleled in years of use (and abuse) and I would recommend it. Price was at around 60€ when I bought it.

Hi all.

I use some multi effects units--an old Alesis Quadraverb GT rackmount, which they don't make anymore, a Boss GT-8, which has some nice effects and a built in wah/volume pedal, and a 150 watt Line 6 Spider III amp, which has 500 presets, and allows a lot of control in building your own sound.

Lately, I've been recording my playing with limited effects, and then layering effects on when mixing, which gives a lot more control over creating different sounds to fit the song and my mood. Still a noob when it comes to recording, but I'm slowly getting the hang of mixing.
