Or would it be better just to get a standard gibson sg?
Im really into heavy metal, and some classical stuff, just in case that matters when choosing.

There's a big difference between the way an Ibanez plays and the way an SG plays.
Actually..I shouldn't say "Plays" I should say "Feels".
I'd try them both out at a local store and see which one feels better to you. Buying a guitar is a really personal thing...test them all out! Pack a lunch and make a day of it. Try out every guitar that interests you...noodle around...see how they feel, what the weight is like...sustain...playability...fret access...quality of workmanship...you know...check it all out!

I agree with Dis you can't pick a guitar from looks and how you think it should play! Roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty.......so to speak. Go in and play what ever interests you. Try them all if that's your gig. Pick what you think are the best and narrow it down ....... Feel, Price and sound. Weigh the options and make a logical ,practical choice........ Then pick the one you want hehe:D

I'd go with the gibson, i got a gibson sg supreme, and love it. i'll try to show it soon in an upcoming video. the ebony figerboard really makes the guitar feel fast, and bending easy/smooth. the action is silly good and i never get fret buzz, even when i really atack the strings. The tuners i'm not a fan of, they are a little sensitiive. but the nice thing about a gibson, is you know it's well made, you know it will hold most of its value forever,
and finally, most of us beginners want to sound like our favorite band, and a great way to start is using the same guitar so many greats have used over time. the sg is a classic, and gibson has a sound that can't be copied. i think.
