I only have a rather cheap classic acoustic I bought here in Spain, thought I had best buy something cheap incase I didn't like playing. Now I am hooked and craving something better, I've had quite enough of these nylon strings, the spanish guitarists here love them as they're all well into their flamenco but it's not for me, I want a decent steel string electric acoustic to play some of the acoustic rock I love to hear. Also the neck on my acoustic is so fat, I'm sure it makes it harder to play, at least when I get a new one with a nice slim neck it will seem really easy. I'm not going to buy a new guitar until I return to the UK in June, by then hopefully some knowledgable people on this forum will have recommended some suitable acoustics for me.

I play an old Hondo acoustic and a Gibson ES335 knockoff on a 50 Watt Yamaha amp. My next purchase will be a Gibson SG Special.

January 28th, 2007, 05:43 PM
I like the SG but find the neck a little thin for my big paws classy looking gutiar though I think my next will be a Tele to keep the Strat company

I have small-ish hands... like Angus Young. Maybe why he plays an SG :) Of course, I'm not 5 foot 2 like him...

That's a good question and I'm sorry I don't have an answer but I did post some pics I shot of one of my guitars and didn't have to resize.

Many years ago, my dad bought himself a cheap acoustic guitar. A classical Spanish style guitar. He learned a few bits, but then had kids and a job to worry about, and he stopped playing.

19 years later, I find myself trying to learn the weirdest things, just to occupy my time. Languages, juggling, magic tricks, 3D animation... and then I found my dad's old guitar. He couldn't even remember how to play it. I found lessons on the internet and started learning. Slowly. Chords at first. Then I had an awesome birthday present from a friend. An electric guitar starter kit. A cheap stratocaster copy with a cheap buzzing 10-watt amp. It kept going out of tune, the low E string buzzed horrendously, and there was plastic stuck underneath the knobs. But it had a shiny translucent cherry red finish and I instantly fell in love with it. :)

3 years later and I've just recently bought myself an awesome black SG-style guitar. Still cheap, but a much better quality. Reviews say one of the best guitars for its price. I've yet to find a reason to disagree.

So... long story short, I have three guitars.

- 24-year-old Spanish guitar
- cheap red stratocaster copy
- awesome black SG-style guitar

Some of these other guitars here are pretty. Especially that Epiphone Les Paul.

I dont have pictures for all of it but I'll try to post what I have.

I picked up this telecaster used at a shop recently and really love it. It is actually a "Squier Series" made in Mexico. The apparently made them there with standard tele bodies and necks back in the 90's. Whatever it is, I love it.

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r179/dbfl/body-1.jpg

This Agile AL2000 was my first guitar. Great value, great playing guitar, and absolutely beautiful. I dont want to break any protocall here but I am selling this one.

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r179/dbfl/Guitar015.jpg

I also have a Greg Bennett (Samick) acoustic. It has a solid cedar top, rosewood back and sides and is a really cool southern jumbo shape. Beautiful guitar and plays really nice.

I also have a Boss Micro Br. It is a portable 4 track recorder/multi effects unit. This is basically what I play through every day. I can play with the headphones and not disturb anyone and it has some great features.

I have a Crate MX15R practice amp as well. It is actually a pretty good little amp and even has reverb. I am selling it as well because I want a different amp.

well it seems i am the one guy on here who has better stuff than all of you .(sarcastic) i wish i had some gear like you guys, i am a staving college student, so all i have is a esteban electric/accoustic (christmas gift) and i bought myself a fender package. later i found out not really fender at all it is a japanese version called squire. the amp makes a awful noise and the guitar is ok for learning form and technique but it can't get any decent tone. maybe i will make enough money soon to get some of the awesome gear you guys have.

i bought the fender strat pack and actually its not bad. Obviosuly compared to like a real stratocaster or something high end its not the best, but for a begginer its pretty good. The amp sucks, but come on if your just learning does it really matter anyway.

Black Ibanez Gio Gax30 (kind of cheap I know, waiting for a sunburst mexi strat with a maple fretboard to fall into my price range) and my new baby a Vox 50 Watt Valvetronix modeling amp...sure sounds nicer than the Squire Champ I have in the closet. Also have a 1960's Broadway Harmony Archtop Sunburst acoustic...neck like a baseball bat, big fat body, tiny frets, and buzzes like a bumble bee but it was my grandfathers and I will never part with it.

been playing for a while and have a little bit of equip
first guitar i got was a fender squire starter pack which came with the 10 watt squire amp, still got this guitar, though its absolutly covered in stickers.
got bored of that so went and brought a black mexi strat which is awesome
just got a marshall MG15CDR amp which is amazing especially the reverb spring in it, gives a great dance hall reggae feel to the sound when turned up
I also have a boss DS-2 distortion pedal. But i really want a ibanez next. i played one a few months back and it just felt beautifull, so light compared to my strat also because i want a dual coil guitar to see what the big difference in sound is between single and dual coil pickups

I recently purchased a 2006 Fender American Deluxe Ash Strat in tobacco sunburst. I absolutely LOVE it. Having that guitar sitting in the stand looking at me is all the motivation I need to pick it up and practice every chance I get. I also have an old 80's LP copy made by a company called Lotus that's actually in the shop getting a bridge installed. Its not the highest quality instrument around but the price was right (free from my brother) when I got it about 15 years ago. I also have a Marshall MD15DFX practice amp but I'm not that happy with how it sounds. I would love to invest in a Fender Deluxe Reverb one of these days.

How do you like that Ibanez? I've got a Squire Strat and came across the Ibanez at a good price and am curious if I'd be trading up? Should i sell the Squire or the Ibanez? I definitely don't need 2 guitars of that caliber, but the price was too good to pass up...

I am playing a dean performer series, its about 15 years old and I picked it up for 75 bucks. I have replaced the nut and bridge pins with bone ones and Ive got the action down as low as possible. With Elixer light strings it sounds pretty good but I feel like I am at a point where its starting to hold me back.
My problem is do I get the Taylor 110E or go ahead and get an electric?
I play rock and a lot of blues lately.
And am interested in bluegrass.

This is my Schecter Diamond Series Omen 6. The amp is a Crate FXT120. Not shown (or probably hard to see) is my Johnson Overdrive Pedal (which switches from clean to dirty, it I can switch from turbo to HOT, which unleashes more drive).

These two are my very first electric guitar and amp, all of which costed about $860. The characature is a picture of me, but not as thin, Im a 280 lb tons of fun guitarist lol.

This is my very first (and only) acoustic. It's a Yamaha FG-350W given to me by my dad. Its about 30 years old, so its really resonant.

My stuff:
Ibanez artcore hollowbody
Cheap Strat copy bought for daughter, she lost interest, next time Ill buy her a good one.lol
Kona acoustic electric,beautiful inexpensive guitar

Line 6 FlextoneII plus
Pedalboard for line 6
Kustom 60 watt PA
and then I got a Behringer stack, slant and straight cabs,4x12 Jensens, just cause they were new and cheap. Also they look good in my living room.I run em off the internal and external jacks of the Line 6 sends 50w to each and almost makes me sound like a player sometimes.

I like it but I really need to have it professionally set up. My only complaint is the pickups seem to miss the middle strings, its either really bassy or too bright. I also need my intonation set. Other than that it plays quite well for its price, stays in tune nicely, and the neck it really confortable to me.

Honestly if you can afford to keep both guitars I would. The Squire Strat will come in handy when playing classic rock and roll, Clapton, etc. The humbuckers on the Ibanez are better suited for metal, downtunings, and anything with a full mellow tone like 311. If you must get rid of one of them I would say play them both and see which one suits your needs better.

Some sweet guitars posted on here. Might as well tell you what i have.

I've had loads of different ones over the years from strats to supermarket specials and lent/given them away, but these are the ones i have had for a while now.

My electric is a Tanglewood and the accoustic is a big old 12 string which i use as a six string. I have no idea what make it is but it has a beautiful rich tone.

When i'm playing the electric and just want a quick play i shove it through a Zoom 505 and headphones. If i'm feeling i want a bit more adventure i plug it into my computer.

Mine's not much, I have a Behringer V-tone amp that came with my first guitar (which I gave to a friend :)), a small Digitech RP50 and now using a Yamaha Pacifica that my mum bought me for Christmas.

Also had a spanish classical guitar that is apparently lost in action somewhere, t'was the guitar I first learned on so I'm hoping it returns to me :o
Will see if I can get a picture of all the set together, first must find the digital camera too, which is directly related to cleaning my room :o

I absolutely love my Evo...I've owned a lot of different guitars over the years from Jacksons, Ibanez, Fender..etc.

When I first got it, it took me about an hour to get used to the weight and balance (really well balanced)..since then I'm totally hooked on it.

It has some really great tone on the neck pickup but the stock bridge pickup is a little weak for my liking. (I have a Dimarzio D-Sonic on order for it).

If you get the chance...go try out some of the Deans...I don't think you'll ever see me play anything else.

Oh yes Siree that is a JEM right there!

One of the most awesome guitars ever made, and YOU know it.
The Cort X's are pretty darn neat too, what model is it? I've tried X-2's and was truly amazed at the pickups. Superb stuff.

Hi I am a beginner (47) of around 13 months, have caught the bug, cannot believe I took so long to start learning. As to my gear the love of my life is my Les paul studio, I think it is because this was my first guitar, bought by my wife for xmas (I had asked for new motorbike). This was partnered with a marshall mg15dfx amp. I also for my birthday recieved a Blueshawk with a fender blues junior amp, and for xmas just gone a 67 Telecaster RI FSR. but the guitar I love playing the most is my studio. ps am rubbish but love it

Fender Frontman 15G (bought it quite cheap, don't really like it)

this mex strat is a scratch and dent item from musicians friend, for about $250 shipped. after 6 months, i still can't find any scratches or dents or anything wrong with it. this is my favorite axe to play on currently. so smooth! i keep .09 DRs on it.
http://pics.getblazed.net/mxstrat.jpghttp://pics.getblazed.net/mxstrat2.jpg

i've had this epi sg for about 12+ years now. i think it was the second guitar i ever purchased, roughly $200. for the most part this is the guitar i use to play around with different tunings. since it has no tremelo/floating bridge, its easier to quickly change tunings. i think its in DADGAD now. .09 DRs
http://pics.getblazed.net/episg.jpg

i bought this epi les paul from a guy i work with for $200. i keep it at a friends condo with the fender amp. this is a very sweet guitar to play on like the mex strat. .09 DRs

the micro cube is fun to play around with. so many amp emulation sounds, effect settings, etc.. the blues driver is wicked, an excellent pedal! the micro cube was like $120 at guitar center and the bd-2 was $65 used at guitar center.
http://pics.getblazed.net/amppedal.jpg

i bought this from a friend for $50; she was moving to hawaii so it had to stay here. the spring reverb sounds weird, so does the tremelo. it gets pretty loud though, i use this amp when the roomates leave the house.
http://pics.getblazed.net/gibamp.jpg

i keep this fender amp at a friends condo with the epi les paul. its an alright amp, eh. i dont remember what this cost me.

Yamaha Acoustic (that friend broke, cracked the neck above second fret unto the headstock) w/ capo permanently on 2nd fret and tuned from there.

Ibanez AEL20 Acoustic Electric

Fender FM212R with Boss TR-2 Tremelo in FX loop.

Currently using a crappy headphone amp with built in effects for chorus, overdrive, distortion, and really crappy "echo".

Being a broke college kid is awesome. Looking into a new full electric haven't had one for some years, most likely double humbucking, either strat, tele(semi hollow, thinline), or schecter c-1 a/e (want something chambered or semi hollow). But that won't be for a while.

love the look of the samick.

I use a blue with maple board standard fender strat MIM (fat strat) (my unversity's colours, UofM) and a marshal 10amp practice amp (I like to keep it quiet, keep the volume under half so I get minimal distortion and so I dont blow my ear drums out).

I use the Zachary pedal, Zachary strings, Zachary stands. I own a Zachary D1 and a Z1 and I am soon to be the proud owner of the world's first Zachary G3T. These guitars are totally hand made in Canada by Alex.

I also have an Ibanex RG body with an Ed Roman neck attached to it.

I also have an old 1950s Kay archtop that I just love.

I've got a cheap 1970s fretless bass that is a lot of fun.

I've got a Tacoma "Little Jumbo", which I think was made before Fender took over Tacoma. It's a great little guitar.

I don't have much since I'm young, but here it is. I have a Samick acoustic, a Ibanez rg2ex1, and a Line 6 spider 3 15 watt.

I really like it. It has a good sound, and the action is pretty comfortable.

I guess I will list me gear. my main guitar is a 1988 fender telecaster 3 finish starburst that has been converted for lefthanded play. running through a vox-wah, electro-harmonix small stone and an electro-harmonix bass balls, boss superover drive SD-1 and an electro-harmonix small clone. then into a fuzz face then finally to a 1970 shin-ei univibe. then into my marshall ATV150XH hibrid head. and into 2 4x10 marshall cabs. the top slanted cab is a 1965A. and the bottom is a 1980B. my other guitars are a 1993 olympic white fender strat. and a 1995 starburst fender strat. A 1970 fender 12-string accoustic and a B.C rich bronze series guitar with a few mods.

I just build my own, more fun and cost less than a 5 or 6000 dollar instrument from someone elses work bench. The additional benifit is that I can adjust to look and feel of it at any time before, during and after construction. I will post some pics when/if I can remember to bring in some from home.
