I had heard that different makes of tubes produce different tones/sound. Is it just the preamp tubes that do this or do the power tubes change the sound also? Can you outline what kind of sound which tubes produce? Is the difference that noticeable? I personally like a warm creamy bluesy tone any sugestions?
Sorry for all the question but I don't really want to experiment with a bunch of different tubes.
Plus I figure if I don't know and have questions about this other people proly do to.

For blues go for EL 34 or EL 84 power tubes depending on amp.

Yes the EL 84 and EL 34 tubes are great for blues.
There are so many types of tubes out there, so many different configureations, it is really hard to really zero in your prefereed sound without alot of trial and error.. You can get close to your sound but what if you wanted a tad more crunch, maybe a little more clean?
I would start out with a set of Groove Tubes EL 84's and go from there ;) I dont think youll be dissapointed ;)

Will these do it?

Now these will replace my 2 6L6GC without any problems?
What about my 12AX7/ECC83 preamp tube?
Thanks Blew

Take it to a tech, you could need a re biasing if you want to change from 6l6 to El 84.

I took for granted that you had EL series tubes in there. Youll need to get 6l6 tubes again, OR send the head to a tech who can make the switch and rebias the head while hes got it.
Look for a set of 6l6 tubes by groove tubes.. they make em.. I like there tubes, last long, and are good quailty tubes.
Sorry I cant help you more.. Im sure you dont wanna rebias the amp yourself.

So if I get a set of 6l6 and swap them out do I still have to have the amp rebiased? If I have to take it to the tech and have it rebiased anyway would I be better to get the EL 84 tubes?
What about my preamp tube the 12AX7/ECC83?
Sorry for all the questions just trying to learn as much as possible

Anytime you change the power tubes, you should get your amp rebiased. You dont really need to do it with the preamp tubes, ALTHOUGH, I personally do it with mine. Reason being is my head, you simply cannot find anymore, and I use it quite a bit. Not to mention the pricetag isnt cheap eaither.
If you sent it to a tech to get the tube type changed, 90% of all techs out there would include the rebiasing in the cost of the changeover. I know I do, and every other tech that i know does also.
Doesnt bother me askin questions, thats how you learn ;)

So if the amp needs to be rebiased anyway would you recommend changing from the 6l6 to the EL84 tubes?
Is the preamp 12AX7/ECC83 tube ok or is there something better? Does it need to be changed at the same time as the others.
Thanks Blew
