my acoustic guitar didnt come with ports to plug in a chord...so does anyone know if those things you put in the soundhole work good or not?

There are several different companies that supply pickups for the sound hole. I use an old Seymour Duncan on my Guild guitar. It sounds really good. It's basically a pickup with a chord that plugs into your amp.
