tuning up

I'm not a guitarist but a bassist.
my band tunes 2 tones down (C standard) and I play with a 5 string bass, I don't like playing on loose strings so I figured out if I tune all the string a hal tone up I play in the same tuning as my band, but will it hurt my neck?

I'd be worried about breaking a string more than hurting the neck, but that's probably a valid concern too which hopefully somebody can address.

I wouldn't worry at all about breaking a string on a bass. I don't think it will hurt the neck. On a guitar there are a lot of different tunings. Call a shop in your area. They'll tell ya right over the phone.
