I was at my local Fender dealer today and finalized my plans for a guitar make-over with their Luither. I have a MIM Strat SSS and i'm making some changes. I ordered a Seymore/Duncan hot rail mini humbucker to replace the bridge pick-up, and asked for the guitar to be reset-up after it's installed, I also ordered a white pearl tortise shell pick guard, 3 low profile all chrome vol/tone knobs(no numbers) an all chrome tremblo bar and toggle switch. I wanted to do the cosmedic part just to make it more mine, but i can't wait to hear her sing with the s/d hot rail...:D parts come in tues. and they said they need her for 3 days...i just thought you guys would like to know what ppl are doing with their gear.

was that hot rail you played with in a strat?..if so...what did you think?
and the idea of just one in the bridge was so i could still have the natural single coil fender sound in the other p/u positions, I looking at it as having 2 completely different sounds in one guitar kinda like that ohh...what is it..the VG Strat? that lets you switch between single coil and humbuckers with a switch

then I would suggest the hot rail in the bridge pos. the one I played was on a Tokia , which alot of people never heard of, they were made in Japan and even had Fender lookalike headstocks and stuff, they were such good copies of Fenders that Fender sued and had it where they are no longer sold in the US. They even spelled they name on the headsotck with the same spagitti lettering that Fender was using, from a distance you could not tell them apart. But the hot rails on that guitar was a friends and he had them in all pos. the guitar was a real screamer.

I've got on to put in my project guitar but it's not a strat. The pickup configuration on it is H/S/H I've got a DiMarzio Tone zone for the neck, a Hotrails for the middle and a Bill Lawrence L500XL for the bridge but I haven't put it all together yet. Let me know how you like it when you get it.

BTW you might want to keep the single to put the guitar back if you don't like the hotrails or you want to sell the Strat especially if you like the hotrails. Just a thought.

actually blew the Luither told me to keep everything i'm having replaced. He said if i resold the guitar i may get a little more because of the work done...but if i can sell it as original it could be worth much more..that's hypothetical of course I'm talking about a MIM strat, not that theres anything wrong with that guitar ..it is what it is though.

Dis..oh yea!!!...i'll let you know right way...parts are on there way, they said max 3 days in the shop..so i'm syked....hotrail p/u thru the mt-2 ...screaming out of a 100 watts of marshall power....i'd tell you what that thought does to me...but it's not allowed here...lol....

Hey Guys just wanted to let the ones who were interested know that I got my Strat back all jazzed up nice and sweet....I couldn't be happier all the way around...fast, friendly and professional service from the luthier, the cosmedics i had done were suttle yet noticable..I had a turtle shell white pearl pick guard installed, replaced the bell knobs with low profile polished chrome ones and a chrome tremeblo bar and selector switch knob. The tech asked me if i wanted to have him inspect the set-up and adjust it to fit me better...what a difference...and the biggie...that Hot Rail p/u....omg!!! i knew i was getting that hot metal sound from it..kinda why i wanted it...but the bonuses are even better...the sustain is amazing, and it has such a nice creamy sound when your playing chords..wow...thanks to everyone who gave me input on the hot rails:) now that i have the Movie challenge posted
(wink wink...nudge nudge) I'll get pics and vids of the strat up soon

... a good pickguard, strangely enough, can add SO much class to a guitar. Excellent choice, and I too am interested to hear what you think of the hotrails and how they play.\Cheers!

your right and I think "class" is a perfect word for that...i didn't know there was so many variables to a pick guard either...I know I wanted the pearl white tourtise shell...but didn't know you could pick the layer colors that showed at the edges of it...i picked a black underlayer so with the pearl on top the edge of the pickguard has what looks like a black outline around it...but i could have literally picked from like 10 combinations. i really wasn't looking for an extreme look...just something that set mine apart from all the other strats out there....the paint on it isn't custom but i don't see many like it to start with..it's called metalic sage green...it's a color either you love or hate...

I'm really interested to see as many pictures of this as possible.. by the sounds of it you're already quite happy with it. Metallic sage green really sounds different though- away from the norm. No longer will it be a strat, but the mitch signature strat;).

well, with only one made, that really raises the value of it now, doesn't it? it's essentially irreplaceable.

now I have to ask, where'd you sign.. the headstock?

dmack.
