I'm thinking of getting another acoustic. I've got a Washburn D10SCELH and it's a fine guitar, no complaints there. But I've been playing more and more with alternate tunnings and thought it would be nice to have another guitar to do that with. Being left handed my choices are a little bit more limited. I've been looking at a few guitars online, an Ovation LCC 047, a Crafter FX560EQL and a Kona K1L. The Kona is an entry level guitar for less than a 100$, but it rates pretty good on Harmony Centrals site. Ah but I've always wanted an Ovation but it looks like they get mixed reviews, an alternative would be the Crafter which looks like it gets better user reviews, but harder to find. So........ what do y'all think?

never heard of a Kona. Crafters are pretty decent, good guitars for their price! Ovations, I think you either love them or hate them. You should try one out and see if you like it. They feel quite a bit different to most acoustics. I wouldn't recommend a cheap Ovation either.

I honestly wouldn't walk out of the store with any acoustic I hadn't A/B'd against a Martin and/or Taylor. Also, soon you'll end up, as I did, with a plathora of laminated backed/sided guitars, always wishing you'd purchased solid wood offerings.
Left-Handed Ovation LCC047 Acoustic Guitar
List price: $713.50
The Taylor 210's and Martin's mahogany series are near the same price range as the Ovation mentioned and have complete solid-wood construction. No laminations, veneers, caps, etc.

Sonicly, worldwide there's few guitars that can even compare to these 2 companies' tones. Even so, they are completely different from one another. The Martins bracing leaning more towards bass response, with the Taylors concentrating on the mids/highs.

We can also look at it this way-
Current prices from Musicians Friend-

Washburn D10SCELH $359
Ovation LCC 047 $499
If you go with the Ovation you'll have $860 invested in laminated guitars. Not that all laminates sound bad, but usually they weren't compared to solids when they were purchased or many wouldn't have been.

Lifelong purchases=Buy quality.

Now when I'm looking to buy a new guitar I set a date a couple months down the road. This way I can play dozens or even hundreds of guitars while looking for the perfect sound. The date eliminates IMPULSE PURCHASES, the most dangerous element known to man...besides women.:)
