Been trying to get this to work for several hours to no avail. I can hear my guitar sound through the computer but there is no processing done by guitar rig, I don't even see an input signal. I've tried both the mic input and the line-in input. I am connecting the guitar right to my sound card.

Sound card is Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS.

Anyone had this problem before or have any idea what it may be?

Thanks

The 2 ZS is pretty sweet, hey? I assume you've got the platinum with the front panel? Connect your guitar through the line in (it says 'line in 2' on the front panel) and then open up guitar rig.

You've got to fiddle around with the audio settings until you find the correct midi control. Go to file > Audio+Midi Settings. On the 'soundcard' tab, I'm using the ASIO interface, with a 96000 sample rate and my output device is set to "Sb Audigy 2 ZS ASIO 24/96 (9..."

If you click on the button that says 'asio config' it will bring up a new box when you can set the output latency (ie, how long the computer takes to process the sound before it outputs it through the speakers). By default, I think it's set to 50ms (milli-seconds) but I find that is WAY too much delay. Use the drop down box and change it to 5ms. 5 seemed to always work when I only had a singlecore 3.0Ghz processor and 2GBs RAM. I've now got a 2.8Ghz dual-core processor and 4GB Ram and it's basically got 10 times the rocessing power. Obviously, regarding latency. the lower the number, the quicker the output response time, but if your computer doesn't have enough processing power/ram you could get clipping and popping as you're playing.

After that, just click ok, and you SHOULD be set. If there's any dramas, just reply here and I'll try and sort through them with you. :)

Sorry i can't be real helpful..i've never seen guitar rig...but have heard of it...is there a manual either hardcopy or online?...if you plugged into the input channel it says...you may want to check and make sure the program is pointing to that input signal..if you have the program opened and you play and here yourself that maybe windows media you here while guitar rig is sitting waiting for a signal from another source...just a shot here...

I don't have the front panel connection. I tried playing around with all the input settings and still no luck. I hear the guitar, but no input to guitar rig.

*EDIT* - I got sound to finally come through with my amp as a preamp in the mic plug of the sound card. The problem now is there seems to be alot of noise, I take it the problem is becase the mic input is boosted. Is there any way to set the input selection as Line-In 1 instead of Line-In 2?

What operating system are you running? I know that when I upgraded to Vista it was being a royal pain in the backside...

And is guitar rig switched on (there's a little button on the far right at the very very top. If it's white, it means it's switched on)

Make sure that 'mute sound' is not selected on the tuner panel.

*thinks* You're saying that you can hear the guitar through the speakers? Does the sound stop when you open up Guitar Rig? If it does, it's a Guitar Rig audio settings problem. If it doesn't, then it's a problem with how you're connecting your guitar to your computer, and Windows (whichever version you're running) isn't letting guitar rig hear the guitar or see the guitar input...

How are you connecting it, exactly?

I'm connecting to the Line-In port on the back of the sound card. Guitar->Amp->Sound card Line-In. I tested it again and it works on the mic input, but not line-in. I take it it's becase there is no "Line-In 1" selection in guitar rig. Any solution to that becase there is alot of noise with the mic plug.

Yeah, the noise is probably coming from the amp... Bypass the amp (you don't need an amp, because guitar rig is an amp modelling program :D) and plug your guitar directly into the mic input (if that's working for you). How's the noise now?

Turning down your pickups so they aren't so 'hot' might help too.

Much better, I appreciate the help. Might have to look into getting the front panel for this card. I have a feeling the line plug would be alot better.

I'm glad it's working better now :)

This is the panel I was talking about - you can see that it has a number of options for connecting your audio devices

A lot of people around here also use the Line 6 guitar port. I haven't tried it, but I hear that it's a good investment. The good thing about the line6 and the audigy front panel means that you've basically got a dedicated guitar port to plug into, rather than trying to plug into something at the back of your computer that was designed for a computer mic... But, really glad that you got it working :) I hope you play and record some cool tunes for us all very soon! :D
