Does anyone know a way to record an acoustic guitar on audacity and give it the sound of an electric? And maybe a nylon string?

You can use a guitar port from Line6 or a podxt from Line6 I have the guitar port and strongly recommend the upgrade to the podxt. The port is great but only works with the PC. The pod does all the same stuff but you can play through an amp.

You can do it with audacity. You have to install plugin's. Usually they are called VST plugins. You just stick them in the plugins folder in your audacity program folder. You can look them up on google..

Here's Audacity's instructions:

AUDACITY PLUGIN INFO (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/plugins)

here's one database of plugins:

KVR PLUGINS (http://www.kvraudio.com/get.php?mode=results&st=adv&soft=e&type%5B%5D=0&f=0&fe=vst&win=1&free=1&sf=0&receptor=&de=999999&sort=1&rpp=100)

The only thing, of course, is that you don't hear the effect while you are playing. It's all done in post processing.

Lemme know if I can help more.

Thanks for the link. Which one though? It looks like the ones it could be would be Multi FX, Distortion/Overdrive/Amp, or Modulation. Does anyone have one of these they might recommend?

the plugins are really small... just download a bunch and see which one suits you. There is alot to choose from!

Thanks everyone, but I just discovered an acoustic version of the song I wanted, so I won't need the effects.
