Does anyone else feel my pain when it comes to trying to record in Vista with this card?

My line in refuses to work, and recording through the microphone input is horrible. I'm recording through a Line 6 Pod XT, the output is set really lot, volume pots on my guitar down a bit but still the sound distorts really easily and sounds a bit muddy.

My only other option is to find a new sound card or set up some kind of dual boot system with Windows XP, which is a bit too much hassle really!

Vista is the bane of my existance!! I actually got so fed up with Vista that I installed xp again yesterday. But I did end up getting it working, anyhow... I'm just hoping that I can remember where I found the settings.

I think I must have clicked on the sound icon in the task bar, and then clicked 'mixer settings' (or something like that) then, I managed to find 'properties' or 'advanced' or something, and a box popped up and I found a series of tabs - playback, recording, advanced (maybe). A lot of those were turned off by default, so I turned them all on, and fiddled around for a while.

That probably didn't help you much, but trust me, it CAN be done! I have the same card, and I was recording the output from my Digitech RP50 through my line in, and it worked. My problem was with saving the audio, and the sound compressing even through I had the quality of the mp3 preset at the very highest...

What are you trying to use to record? I was mainly using Adobe Audition, but I installed Audacity for a few days, too.

Ahh, finally got it working!

Had to go into playback devices, then double click on Speakers, then there were tabs in there for the different inputs that were muted.

I understand that Microsoft have totally changed how audio works in Vista, but to make options like that so hard to find is beyond me!

I'm using Sonar to record everything. I haven't had any issues with compression though. Sounds more like a problem with the software rather than Vista though...

Glad you finally got it working. I hope that I was some help, at least :)

I'm not sure what the problem was with compression. I'm pretty anal about my audio settings and I've used Audition for years, so it wasn't a ever a drama, only when I moved over to Vista... Ahh well. :)

Hey Vaxwell
I was reading an article in one of my trade mags about Vista..and the funniest quote in the article was: " The biggest problem Vista owners are having is realizing they are Vista owners"....lol...the article called Vista a glorified version of Windows ME !!!....I think you did the right thng reloading XP

Lol! That's hilarious, Mitch :)
I have to admit, it was shiny... really shiny! But every time I went to load a new program, or an .exe file it would ask me fifteen times if I wanted to cancel or allow (yep, just like on that mac ad!) It got very annoying. And half of my programs (which I use for work!) we're compatible with it yet... very... very... annoying.
