Hey all,
So I'm debating on either Upgrading the pickups in my Special or parting with it to get a Parker PM20 Pro. Or maybe both (most likely).
Anyway...just looking for some suggestions on good P'ups for the Special.
I'm setting it up for more bluesy stuff so I don't need a high output pickup. Got one in the Tevo already ;)
Thanks!

Hey Todd,
You obviously already know my two cents on this subject, but i've done a little more research and hit you with what I've discovered...
As you know, I'm a fan of Dimarzio so I've limited my search to them...
First, the Virtual Hot PAF, it's a hot vintage output type pickup that would really sing for the blues but is supposed to be really dynamic- very sensitive to attack.
Secondly, the Air Zone: it's basically a medium output version of the Tone Zone, so you get that low pull and great sustain and warmth in the bridge position
Last but not least, one of my favourites is the Norton: It combines a lot of the features of the FRED (the satriani tone) and the Tone Zone, so you're getting a lot of rich harmonic overtones as well as a relatively aggressive distortion if you want...
Just a few thoughts;).

Bill Lawrence makes some great strat and tele style pickups, worth checking out, depending on the type of blues you are wanting to play, Fender custom shop Texas Speicals are pretty good , SRV got his sound from them

bare in mind importing some pickups with brand names on it can be expensive though when you can buy just as good ones which arent branded for half the price!!!!

You do have a point, but in the wrong context, I fear... such is true with guitars, that's very true, but in pickups there is such a vast market with fewer big players that they truly are at the top of the list for a reason- they don't have to compete with thousands of other companies.

Hey Dis, Seymour Duncan makes the SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup that is a recreation of the 59 Les Paul standard pickup. They also have the SH2N Jazz pickups that would be great in that guitar! I understand where your coming from, you want the Special to have a totally different sound then that of your other Evo. The SH-PG1 pickups are the zebra covered pickups and would look great in that guitar.

I was going to mention the Pearly Gates, as well. Also, I've got the SD Alnico II Pro's in my LP Classic, and I absolutely love them. You could go REAL high-end and look into the Bare Knuckle pickups!

I would go the seymour duncan route, but that is just me.

why not just go with gibson '57 classics and call it a day. that is the tone you're lookin for--those for buckers and p90's for single are what shaped the first 30 years of rock n roll.
