Does anyone know the actual difference between a volume pot and a tone pot because i need a new volume pot and i have an extra tone pot layin around and i was just curious if it would work the same but just wired up to be the volume

hey thanks guys i just wasnt sure because the package says tone pot on it an i just wasnt sure what the difference was

They're the same component but not necessarily the same value - for example if you have humbuckers in whatever you took the tone pot from, it might be a higher resistance than a typical volume pot.

Look for a "250K" or "500K" or similar number and make sure they're the same. It won't break anything if they're not, but it might not work perfectly either.
