your playing was really good but something about "shred blues" just made me feel tense :) I went ahead and listened to your second song and really enjoyed that, I guess my mind could not grasp blues at high speed. Great stuff though. THanks for sharing it.

Sounded pretty good even though the shred thing isn't my taste I can appreciate the Skill and talent involved in playing it.

am I seriously the only person that disagrees? maybe its because Im from memphis but I honestly think if you play like that it just means you dont understand the music you are playing. Im going to keep this positive, thats what we do here and I dont want to seem like a bad guy. BTW, I like your paganini caprice, a true shredder eh?
Number 1 raise your pickups or get higher output ones, your guitar sounds sick. If you need to, get a noise gate to counteract the hum but you are playing with so much gain and your pickups are so low that it sounds bad. You need higher output to drive distortion. I noticed this on some of your other tracks as well. Yes I realize lots of shredders set their pickups low, doesnt mean they are right to do so. Your pickups should be set as high as is feasible.
Number 2 slow down. Period. I have no issue with shredding, in fact I happen to like it (depending on the artist) but you have outpaced your backing track so much you might as well take it off. Playing an instrument isnt all about YOU, you need to be aware of what is going on musically around you and adjust to it. Your three temples song is a good example of what I mean, the speed works because its consistent, but playing shred over a blues progression is like playing eric clapton style over blastbeat.

I think it is hilarious how some people (redb) have all sorts of criticism when it comes to certain styles of playing that don't fall into all the cliches lol No
my pickups are not set low haha! Noise gate is for lady boys and I don't use anything but some gain and some compression - tho I will admit my EMG's do kick @$$, and using a Jackson for that tune might have been unorthodox and thank goodness for that!; but extra effects..nope..never any delay or reverb or anything to mush up my sound and you can say whatever you will but my playing is clean, my technique is flawless, my speed and accuracy is pretty much unmatched..and as far as understanding music.. I'm sure that most of what you heard was way over your head but then again, I'd love to hear you whip up some nice flow over those changes...live one take improvisation as this was recorded...
(Edited by EZ, no need to attack people) ..then again i'll try to keep this positive lofl.
There are no rules about how fast notes should be played especially depending on the tempo of a song.. that is absurd and goes against one of the beauties of music; it's infinite possibilities, and once one tries to tack rules to music, you end up with a million versions of a boring thing. You already put forth how ignorant and fundamentally limited you are right away by setting such low standards with such a comment. (EDITED BY EZ). Playing fast at times is part of my style and is part of my feel. Feel is not only about slow. Exhilaration is
also a feeling. If I dropped you from a 4 story building you'd feel something, falling on your head of course you'd feel something too lofl.. but flying thru the air, accelerating you'd be feeling a whole lot of something fast!
It is true that while listening to me improvising what won't be heard is the sloppy technique or gritty over-driven, over-effect/delay and re-verb wet/mush tone you are used to hearing (and playing i'm sure) ..or the same boring notes, that fit in that easy box you are so used to ..I won't say just one scale pattern.. you did mention Clapton tho...
...with this all too memorable quote:
"speed works because its consistent, but playing shred over a blues progression "
Lets look at that.. at first glance it may look like you know what you are talking about hahaha (EDITED BY EZ no need for name calling) but to a person that knows a thing or two .. and I'm sure if you look at it again.. SPEED WORK BECAUSE IT IS CONSISTANT>.. Brilliantly stupid as good an oxymoron as the quote just wonderful.. EDITED BY EZ lighten up ) ; )
I'm sure you know better players then Clapton I hope! lofl and if that is what your limited self can only absorb then oh well. Your Loss.
If my tone would have been any different, what a shame. Thank goodness I never took the advise from those of limited capacity like yourself or who knows, I might never be where I am now... LOFL jk nah it might have just taken me a tad longer to find my tone is all. My only advise for you is... Keep doing what you are doing. (Edited by EZ lots keep the neg BS out of this forum, thanks)! Thanks :)

YOU HAVE JIMMY PAGE IN YOUR SIGNATURE, which Defines you automatically as being on the outer cuff of blues knowledge in the first place, Definately NOT a blues purist, by any means whatsoever, Clapton had his day, as did MANY MANY greats, This guy works very hard on his skill levels, and practices more in a month than most guitarists in a year. and the title here, IS next level guitar . . something you may want to consider.

Your ego and cockiness well be your downfall. Ill be honest, I didnt like it so I didnt listen. But, you really pissed me off when Redb gave you some constructive criticism and you basically gave him the finger. Thats not what we are about here. If you dont like what people have to say dont post your songs. You dont have to agree with him but you shouldnt bash him personally because he didnt enjoy your stuff.
NOTE:
This is an official mod warning. Keep it friendly.

Like I said I thought that it was good, I am impressed with shreders, even though its not my faviorte stuff to listen to. But the shred blues just did not work for me. That did not mean it wasn't tonally correct or anything like that, all it meant was that blues at hyper speed is not something that I enjoyed, others might have liked it. SOme of your other stuff was impressive and the amount of time and effort that you have put into learning must be tons, way more than I will ever commit to. But not everyone will like that style, and there are certian people on the forum that don't know near as much as they like to apprear to know. But that is no reason to attack or belittle people who do not like, or understand, or whatever. Thanks

next level guitar . . . . maybe im missing something here. While it is unlikely I will stay on this forum, due to my crass, to the point attitude, it is nice to see a forum with such a nomenclature, it means SOMEONE realized music does progress, regardless of purist thought or skills. I have played blues alot longer than anything else, and I have taken the time to give a little opinion here about the response that was given to a friend, by someone who claims things his own signature would destroy in the eyes of a purist of the blues. SRV was looked at in the same type of manner back in the day by greats like BB King, too fast, not really blues, but then came SRV style guitar that everyone and their uncle tried to play like.
I dont feel that the blues shredder bashed anyone, only rebutted against being bashed. maybe there is more than meets the eye here in this forum. Every forum has its regulars and it rejects. I have seen many forums with many of both, and honestly, when someone shares a skill level like his, you should feel honored to have heard it. basically giving not any constructive criticism but obviously it was him that was the one that was bashing and it is fine to not like something but to say things that are without merit .. that don't make sense and for the sake of illustrating a pointless point, flaming others to make himself feel better, or to cause drama, point of downfall .. as in downfall of what .. like this forum? many have fallen before this forum and more will fall still, because people like the drama.
"get a noise gate" and be like redb - - - real blues players dont bother with noise gates, lol and that is a band aid, if you REALLY want to solve the problem, get better pickups.
this is my first time here, and honestly, it will probably be my last. I wont even bother posting a link to my tracks, because of opinions that seem to suffer from anal cranial infusion.

Seems this guy came here for some honest feedback on a new idea that he came up with(imagine that in music) and what he got was a lecture on his equipment and pretty much his whole approach to expression.
Any red blooded human being with or without a set ( i'll edit myself)would more than likley react the same way.
zZZINTOaWayOUTZzz there are a lot of good people around here that can give you an honest opinion without the sermon. I hope you and visitors arn't too put off by this.
Just a member that loves the atmoshphere of this forum and doesn't want it to change.

Deleted by Ez-one this has gone on long enough, I can see how the orignal poster felt attacked, I do not know anyone that can tell pickup height by hearing a song or two. (I could be way off since I have only been around guitars for the last 40 years) Thread closed

Ez I'm with you on this one and I don't like the way this thread is heading. I appreciate all types of music that doesn't mean I like them all.Opinions or thoughts can be exchanged and given In a manner that don't get people upset and I believe some posters need to sit back and ask themselves if they really handled themselves in an adult manner. I am Closing this thread.
