If you haven't already take advantage of the 3 day pass to the main NLG site that will give you lots of direction as to which way to go and what to practice. Just start at lesson 1 in the beginners section and work through them. If you have any questions we are right here to answer them.

I'm with Blew. Check out the site. It's a huge help and organized just for beginners. I started playing this year in June and spent the first six weeks plodding around on the internet trying to find some time of help. It wasn't very productive at all. I soon found this site after searching for "guitar lesson" videos on youtube.com and have been hear ever since.

yep make sure that you have a lot of free time and sign up for the free 3 day pass, if you start at the begining and work though some of the lessons you will get some great tips and pointers as to how to proceed. Once you have done that you may want to consider signing up for a bit. its cheaper than paying for a local instructor and you will probably advance faster

I agree 100 %. The way the lessons are laid out is superb. It is also great because you learn at your own pace. Once I found this site I stopped taking lessons with my instructor immediately.

I'm a beginner also at playing guitar, and have tried the 3-day pass. It really helped me a lot regarding where and how to start learning how to play. IMHO Tim and David laid out the lessons in a way where "anyone" can start playing a guitar and more importantly, enjoy the learning process too.

Welcome, fellow newb :) My story is a lot like KC Mike. Just started - got my guitar about two weeks ago and found NLG off of the YouTube vids. I took an instant liking to David's methods (enthusiastic, supportive and simple) and decided to take a peek at more of the "free" video lessons. Learned a ton there so I checked out the free 3-day pass and as soon as it expired I joined right away.
As far as the strum is concerned, David has several great beginner lessons on here so give them a look-see they really helped me!
I cannot tell you how much I have learned on here in just a couple of weeks...check it out, it's well worth your time and money.

Yeah, KCMike and tang350 are right, NLG is great. I also joined right away after my 3 day trial ended. I've only been playing for about a month, but I've learned a ton through the great videos. David is really positive and always let's you know that "You can do it!"

When it comes to strumming, I like to think of it like rock paper scissors. The motion you go through, (one-two-three-shoot), is very similar to strumming. Just give it some practice and eventually you'll get used to it.
