this is how i found how to get the pinch harmonic to work at first then move on to doing it as a digging motion.. so give it a try..
try this:

..load up lots of distortion..

..grab your pick, hold your pick in line with the string then turn your wrist about 45 degrees(downward) so its looking like your going to cut the string with your pick..
(chocking down on the pick also helps a lot too, so with about an 1/8 of an Inch or less of the pick is over the thumb is where i aim at.. also switching to the bridge pick up helps too.)

..fret a note on the 3rd or 4th string..

..ok and with a downward motion and your pick at 45 degrees, without muting the string with your picking hand.. like your going to punch the floor.. or a jabbing motion..
slide your picking hand along the string with this downward motion..

..at the same time your want to touch the string with the side of your thumb ever so lightly.. and get off/away from the string with your thumb..
(only takes a split second to get it.. so down, touch, away)

..the best spot where pinch harmonic i found where around the neck pick up and before the bridge pick ups..

After you have gotten that.. try to pick them out with the pick in line with the string.. moving the pick downward a tad helps cut thou the string better..

Sorry to pull up and old thread, but I've been trying this for a few days and can get the sound but it's quiet. The note is ringing out too much and I can't get the harmonic to really scream. :(

Anywho, thought I'd pass that on this morning.

Very high gain and high volume should help you...
