I'm new to this site and I don't know if this is the right forum to post to. If not and if someone could point me in the right direction I would much appreciate it.

Anyway, I've had this consistent volume problem with my Ampeg (for guitar) half stack for a few months. I've been playing for about 14 years and have been able to fix pretty much all of my own technical issues up until now. The volume will be normal for a while and then suddenly jump up by itself...then will jump back down to normal after a few seconds.

I don't know if it's the head or the cabinet, but I tried cleaning the hell out of both, including the tubes and all the wires. Maybe I just need new tubes (I think it's a '95) but I bought it used a couple years ago and it was fine.

Thanks for any help.

Chris

IT could be several things, a tube going bad can start to flutter, you can probably take the tubes and have them tested, if they are a couple years old there is a good chance that they need to be replaced anyway. It also could be a bad pod on your vol or some other control knob, sometimes electrical contact cleaner sprayed in them will clear it up. Or it could be you pre or power amp is starting to go bad. Any of these things could cause the problem that you are experancing. Lastly like Keith Richards it could be that from years of playing your ears are starting to phase in and out :)
