Not given up yet? He He! When is this talent show anyway?
1. Remedy - Seether (love this song, not sure if most people would recognize them though, plus you would probably need more than one guitar, unless you try doing it acousticly, the acoustic version is awesome)
2. Animal I've Become - Three Days Grace (I like this band most kids should have heard this. Can get away with one guitar)
3. Can't Stop - RHCP (cool song, one guitar can handle this, people should have heard this at one time or another)
4. Ironman - Sabbath (who doesn't know this song)
5. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana (ok song some people should know this one)
6. Numb - Linkin Park (Not big Linkin Park fan)
7. Fortunate Son - CCR (good song but old, not sure if some people would recognize it)
8. Wish You Were Here - Pink Floydd (Wish I wasn't here if this was played. Can't stand Pink Floydd. There songs just drag on and on. Sorry Pink Floydd fans, but I'm a hard rock/metal head.)
Good luck at picking one!! Take me home Tonight (Eddie Money) Hinder version is way better.

If you don't have a singer, don't do "Can't Stop." It's a cool song to play, but it's pretty repetetive (same riff repeats for about 70% of the song), and it might get boring for the audience. The singing and other instruments add another dimension to the song. Same deal with "Smells Like Teen Spirit," since the song alternates between that power chord riff and the two note guitar. To be honest, it really requires a full band.
I really can't comment on the other songs, other than the fact that Three Days Grace is the worst excuse for a band ever, and if you play Linkin Park, no one is going to go nuts (although they will recognize it). Also, CCR/Pink Floyd probably aren't the hottest choices if you're playing in front of a teenage/younger audience. Sadly, they are probably the best songs that work by yourself or just with a singer, especially "Wish You Were Here." If your school/venue has a lot of older rock fans (a lot of kids, even those into "new" music, seem to dig Floyd) it'd be worth a go. I honestly don't know many people over under 25 who know much CCR.
I never disliked Seether, "Remedy" is ok, out of all the nu-metal stuff out there they were probably some of the best. I don't know how many people know the song, but it wasn't bad by any stretch.
