I'm fairly new to gutiar but would like to try and record and get creative with my sound. what is the cheapest and easiest way to do that? I have guitar with amp with line out and hedphones jacks. I also have a decent dell computer wth couple of drives dvd-r/cdr burners. so if anyone can tell me what I can purchase at reasonable price or maybe I can just plug my guitar straght up to computer with some recording program. Thanks for the input. Jason

there are some decent free programs out there, but you need an interface to do the connection. I for a long time used a GUitar Port (about $100) its made by line 6 and allows you all sorts of amps and effects, it easily hooks up to your computer, and plays through your computer speakers or your speaker line out. There are several others out there also. DId you try a search of the forum for Recording???? you will probably find 20 threads that touch on this subject'

PS I moved your thread to the recording area, since thats what you are asking about and not effects

I have always plugged my guitars straight into the mic port on my sound card and recorded with Audacity and other software.

There are several threads on this for more info.

stevenrocks, I have a crate Flexwave amp with an input and headphone out. I was thinking of trying the same thing you mention - headphone out from amp to mic input on computer, do you experience any lag time. I'll probably use Audacity.
