John always has has a couple of his effects on. Namely his boss compression sustainer(cs-3 i believe). It brings the lows up and the highs down so that everything plays out nice and even.
During the beginning of the solo, as with most of the song, he is using his boss turbo distortion pedal(ds-2). At the end of the solo, around 4:25 or so, when he is shredding his beautiful sunburst '62 Fender Stratocaster, he has his turbo distortion pedal and wah going.

That was a damn pretty good video
I see that he played the chords instead of the fingering part for the rhythm
which I found totally awesome

Hmm... i never use the wah there...only use it for the crazy part at the end of the solo. If you listen to it i think hes on the clean channel in the verse switching from the intro to some emlishments of the same chords.
Anyways Effects: At the end of the solo he uses a Wah-wah and through-out alot of the song there is a filter or compressor i think. Not to mention alot of Guitar dubbing ( i read somewhere about 15 different guitar tracks are in the album version). After that there is alot of doubled guitars...its hard to get the whole song by youself to sound right. But hte solo is fun :p

On stage in concert he only uses his Ibanez WH-10 wah, his distortion boss ds-2, and a compression sustainer, the boss cs-3. During the intro and the verses he is on his clean channel. In certain parts of each verse he is wahing as well. When he goes into the chorus he puts on his distortion. Like I said earlier, when he does the solo, it is distortion and wah.
The compression sustainer cs-3 is on for the entire song... actually most of his work he has one on.

He only used the Wah for the solo at the concert in milwaukee a few weeks ago...hmm. But John is famous for never playing a song the same twice. Maybe he just didnt feel like using it that day:p

if you watch the video that I posted earlier in this topic you will see a really good example of how it is played. The guy in the video has a really good tone, it is quite similar to how john plays it. Just check it out and see.
