Okay So I learned my Scales (A minor Penatonic Box Shape, A minor Penatonic Blues Box Shape, A minor Penatonic Expanded 1,) I sorta understand that solos are made out of riffs, or at least thats what i saw in lesson the solo lesson and Dave Plays 3 Riffs, but can anyone explain what solos are more in dept, and is it possible to combine scales? Because my friend said that Kurt Cobain Wrote a Solos using 4 or 3 scales. I Really Would Like To Learn how to make solos and how would i make riffs. Plzz i'm kinda, really frustrated:mad: :(

I am really not qualified to answer that question but I have really been trying to work on minor pent. scales lately and have finally started to see how they start to transform to music. I was having a really hard time getting that box to sound musical at all. The lessons you quoted are the ones I have seen and it is the first time it has ever started to make sense. David hasnt posted one on the extended scale II yet but if you look at the written lessons you can pretty much figure out how to extend most of them a little more.

So anyway, what I am doing is playing as much of the extended scale as I know in each key every day. Then, I take one key per day and play that one more. First I just play through it. Then I go back and forth a little. Then try to do something that sounds like a lick. I really dont put any pressure on myself to create anything too interesting though. This has turned out to be key for me. I just figure it is going to take a lot of repitition and dont try to rush it.

Now, after playing it for a week like that, I sat down this weekend and played a bunch of backing tracks in different keys and played along. I was pretty surpised at how much more musical it was than it used to be.

To more generally answer your question, yeah, you can use different scales in the same song and different modes of scales. I dont fully understand that part yet but I figure I will crawl before I walk and figure that stuff out when I get there.
